The president uses The modified 747 , VC-25 or for smaller airports that cannot handle the VC-25 he uses the vice-presidents aircraft a modified 757-200 , C-32 , . These planes are not called Air Force one , if they are not carrying the president the callsing changes to SAM 26000 , but whatever aircraft the president is on board that flight is designated callsign Air Force One , for example if the POTUS got on board a Delta 737 then technically that flight would be Air Force One . @Elijah Lee If the president boards an Army aircraft the call sign becomes Army One, same with any Navy plane such as the time George Bush landed on the deck of the carrier Abraham Lincoln, the call sign was Navy One. You're familiar with the helicopter that flies the president from the White House to Andrews or Camp David. It's only Marine One when he's onboard. The president can fly any size plane any of the branches of the military have including the C-40. The AF operates several C-32s (757) but none are designated Air Force 2 until the VP steps on board. That holds true even if the VP should fly on one of the Gulfstream aircraft in their fleet. Call sign becomes Army Two or Navy Two or Marine Two if the VP flies on those aircrafts. The VC-25s (747) are set aside to be exclusively used as the presidential transports and not used for any other governmental official.
