You just saved me a starter replacement I didn't need! Was having the EXACT problem with starting. Replaced the battery (which I needed anyway)...no change. ASSUMED it was now the starter. Saw your video, swapped out the relay and voilà! Started right up! THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!
FOLLOW UP! After putting in the new relay, the next day it failed to start again. Same symptoms. So...did exactly what you did. Opened up fuse box, adjusted the pin input for the fuel relay and it fired right up! Going to watch it now for the next few days. Hopefully, all has been fixed! Cannot IMAGINE what this would have cost me if I would have taken it into the shop for repair. Whew! Thanks again! You have my allegiance FOREVER!
This time, one customer complained that when the engine of his Z06 warmed up after driving, it would crank but would not start. Upon inspection, it was discovered that this contact was burnt and was causing sparks. This video was helpful. Thank you.
currently have this issue with mine, they replaced the relay and it worked fine for a couple hours, hope this is it not the fuel pump, will give this a try, thanks a ton y'all always have the answer!
Excellent video! I don't have this problem but this video adds to my knowledge base so if/when a problem arises I'll be better prepared. Thanks for the tip!
Thanks Lyle for sharing that !!! WoW!!! who would have known, something as simple as the contact pin!!, it just goes to show you it's the little things that mean a lot.
We have a lot of 2008 Malibu’s at work that had that very same issue. After so many hours of diags on the first one, we go straight to that now every time we have a no start 2008 Malibu.
Spend $80.00 and get the Racetronix C5 - C6 Fuel pump relay harness. Takes half the power away from the stock harness and splits it to the alternator. He is right on the pin. Definitely check it out. My 05 had issues starting and stalling out. Harness fixed it
I did the same with my 07 Z06..Added the racetronix wiring kit...Was fine for about ten months but it started acting up again ...Not always, sometimes...Going to see how my pin is positioned ...
Good stuff. I went to start my 2005 C6 this morning. Was able to open the door, all lights came on but nothing when hit the start. Forgot that I had the option to put the FOB into the glove box slot. ( not sure that would’ve solved it).Headlights wouldn’t turn off and battery eventually died cause I was late to work. AAA will come out tonight to put a new battery cause I’ve only owned it for three weeks and not sure how old it is. Will certainly take a look at that relay though, thanks
I was having starting issues on my 07 C6, while I was replacing the battery I decided to check the fuse relay box in front of the battery. Two of the 8866 relays were burnt on the sides! CHECK INSIDE THAT BOX ! IT COULD SAVE YOU A TOW SOME DAY!
Excellent video as usual Sir. Wonder if the female connector for the relays pin contact area is not good enough to handle the amperage and thus it heats up which over time takes its toll on the female connector in the under hood center. OR - is something going on with the fuel pumps/wiring, grounds etc. over time/wear & tear resulting in a larger amperage draw than the circuit was engineered to handle thus leading to the failure.... HMMM.. I had a fellow on Corvette forum bring up this same issue with the C5's and said his shop runs into this fairly often on the C5's. Since the C6 is really a C5.5, I don't see any reason why it wouldn't affect the C5's - do you?
I have had this problem on C5's,but it seems to be much more prevalent on the C6. Not sure why that would be, but it is what we are seeing here and what I am reading on all of the forums. Thanks for watching! Lyle
I have had this problem twice first time it kinda fixed itself at the shop. Well it didn’t actually but did exactly what you described in this video. My car is a 2006 z06 which is currently having this issue again. My question is how do you fix those pins?
2009 ZR1 Just did this to me as I went to crank it up it ran but then just died I’m like what the hell!So I crunk it back up and it ran like nothing happened! So now I’m Curious about what cause it!I was thinking maybe bad fuel or something so I ran into town just mashing on it went to Shell Station filled up went up and down the Hwy 65-70 mph!Well on my way back home the car just shuts off!I’m like O he’ll get ready to call a tow truck it crunk back up just idling up and so i mashed the pedal came off the clutch and it drove fine home got in the yard and was about to back in and it shut off! It’s like it ran out of gas but crunk back up and ran fine backing in!Wow I was show about to take it to the dealer to get it checked out but I will definitely check the relay fuse and pin plug!👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽Wow it’s just amazing to be able to look up this problem on RU-vid and Bam 💥 Thanks So much Sirrrrrrr!
Having the same issue with mine. I’m traveling and the car shuts off. It happened to me several times within one trip. Might be this issue that you sir.
IT isn't pervasive, but it is more common among the c6's than the c5's in our experience. It is one of those issues that the dealer would make about $4000 fixing.
I love how you teach buddy thanks. I have a problem with my 05 vette that when it goes to half tnk it zeroes the gauge and says service fuel system. i have heard all types of stories on what the problem is? chevy wants 2000 buck to change the gauge?// i drive it till it goes to half tank and just refill it but i hate when my car isnt right. whata ya think? I do know that chevy has had this problem a while and never recalled their problem on their primo proud as hell corvette...... GRRRRR. thanks bud
I had the same issue with my 05! I just stuck a piece of rubber under neath the pin so it would push up the pin once that section of the fuse box was re assembled! Havent had any problems since!
The fuse box is a weak link in GM cars. You can just look at the relays and see a slight color change, it's getting hot because of the high resistance at the pins.
C&S how do I fix my park lamps rear ,front and side markers not working headlights work, brake lights work, turn singles work, flashers work, only parking lights not working, what should I do 2008 c6
Can I reposition the pin myself? I have a 2005 Corvette broke down in front of a FORD dealership. lol ! I changed both fuel pumps but I'm having the same problem of my vehicle cranking when it wants to.
This is happening to my 13 c6 GS. Can you pkease advise me what to tell my dealership when I request a tow? Flat bed I am sure, but how does a tow bed get a dead car on the flat bed and more inportantly how does it lower it down at the shop? Thank you
The flat bed runs backward and tilts down at a relatively shallow angle, then a winch and cable are used to haul the car up onto the bed. Most tow drivers have extra ramps for low-clearance vehciles like yours. Super easy and nothing to worry about... just tell them what car you have and request an experienced tow driver for the job. Lyle
It's a known design issue with the 14-17 Corvettes. Simple solution is to pull the nozzle back an inch or two from full insertion--works every time. :) Lyle
Worked on the wire in the fuse box. Wasn't brown, relay looked new. Cranks but no fuel, no start. Sound reminds me of the throttle to floor to spin motor to circulate oil without starting feature. Is that feature somehow active without throttle to floor? 2007 auto lt3 z51.
It is not. It sounds like your fuel system isn't activating...this could be a number of things,, from anti-theft system issues to fuel system failures. It is going to need to be diagnosed properly by a technician to resolve the issue. Lyle
@@csvette If I may ask 1 question. I've heard Dealership immediately says "fuel pump". Would a pump just fail without showing signs like not supplying enough fuel at high RPM? Car never hesitated or had problem, runs great just pulled into garage turned off and had this problem next morning. Thank you, subscribed.
@@bobadams3661 that would be a very rare occurence. Normally pumps give you a sign that they are flagging before complete failure, as you mentioned. The dealership is there to sell parts and labor time--not to fix your car. GM does almost no actual diagnosis or repair beyond that the computer scan tells them to do. Lyle
@@csvette As I thought I went to dealership (without car, still in garage at home) and he immediately said "fuel pump, happens all the time, people shut off car, go back and doesn't start". Didn't offer any other possible cause. Also why would I put a GM fuel pump in if they quit at 50,000 miles?
Hello, great information my friend! I'm currently having an issue with my 2013 manual Corvette base model. I added an octane booster because I was going to take a 1 hour trip since my car is 93 tuned and has a stage 3 CAM just wanted to put it for preventative reasons like pinging etc. I have done it before but I haven't drove it too much the last 2 months maybe three to four times a week for a few minutes. While I was taking that trip the car felt like it lost power and it almost sounded like it had an exhaust leak. The car also has a slight jerk when I switch gears. But I have not gotten a check engine light at all and I plugged a reader on it to see if it scans something that wouldn't put the check engine light on and still nothing. But I just notice that my gas gauge was over half a tank and within 2 minutes it went down to about a quarter away from half a tank so now I'm thinking it might be a fuel problem. Any ideas my friend. Thanks tons will be subscribing as well. Have a beautiful 2023
Two things to do first: --Make sure that your battery and charging system are both healthy and at optimal levels--the shifting issue sounds like a low electrical power issue. --Add a can of SeaFoam or Techron to the next two tanks of fuel that you fill. That will clean off the rheostat in the sending unit in the fuel tank if it has some gunk creating a dead spot. Let me know how things go! Lyle
@@csvette the charging system seems fine, having about 14 volts on the gauge consistently and the battery is about 4 months old. I took your advice and ran on techron complete fuel system cleaner last night and doing my second bottle this morning, I also checked and fuel pump relay and it did seem a tad bit burned and I switched it out with the wiper relay, car is starting to run better like not shitting off but still has a different exhaust note and when I punched it yesterday to see how it's running I saw a little cloud of black smoke that I never had before. Oil was changed 3 months ago. Car only has 65,000 Miles If I get on it a little the car has like a second or two lag from first to second and occasionally from 2nd to 3rd.
@@litoariel Hmm--that is perplexing! I think that this should be addressed to the tuner/ builder who worked on the car just recently, as I'm assuming that this wasn't an issue previous to the upgrades. Lyle
@@csvette you know I'm lost also, the car has had the stage 3 Cam and has been 93 tuned for about 3 years now. I've owned the car for about almost 5 years with the battery going out twice within my ownership and a crack on the side of my radiator. Other than that this car has never given me any other issues at all. I'm going to try to clean out the throttle body and change the spark plugs, any suggestions on what spark plugs I should get? Thanks tons my friend I really appreciate your quick responses and consider your help immensely!
@@csvette ok my 2008 Vette has 33k miles. I will keep my eyes open for this. Have you ever put together a list of typical failures based on miles/ time or nuisance items for the various model years?
