C7 Corvette Brake Replacement | No More Brembo Brake Dust | Easy DIY

My C7 Corvette Grand Sport was suffering from an abundance of brake dust from the stock Brembo pads that are installed on C7 Corvette Grand Sports and C7 Corvette Z06's. The dirty Brembo brake pads on the C7 Corvette's is a known issue that can be solved with a simple brake pad swap. I elected to replace the factory Brembo pads on my C7 Corvette Grand Sport / Z06 with Power Stop Z26 Extreme Carbon Ceramic brake pads. This was by far the easiest brake pad replacement job I have ever done on a car. The engineers of the C7 Corvette designed a simple pad replacement procedure.

I know this is 4 years old, but it sure helped today. Before applying the power of persuasion, hammer, to the back of the pad, I thought it was best to consult the internet! On my first rear brake I had put the pad with the “squealer” on, on the inside and it wasn’t going in smoothly…Thank You for the video, it saved me from making a dumb mistake!

I did the brake pads with the Z26 pads Friday 7/19/2024. I had to use a floor jack for each wheel as I don't have a lift. I also washed each wheel. It took me 2 hours and 45 minutes to complete. I hope my brake dust sorrows are behind me now. Thanks for the video. It was a pretty easy job.

Aww, thanks man, for that dedicated cold start! You're too kind! The C7 sounds awesome as always. It truly put a smile on my face to see this. Happy New Year to you! Oh, and this is making me want a Corvette again. It was and still is my first love. I've used a Power Stop kit on my Ford Explorer Sport Trac and they are a reliable manufacturer to purchase from. I'm going to end up swapping out brake pads in the i8 because of that same brake dust problem. The inside of my rims are glossy. Even after washing the car and pulling the car in the garage, the rotors are immediately shedding material from the brake pads all over the inside of the clean rims. It's annoying. I'm glad to see your How To. I have Brembo brakes up front and a standard small brake calipers in the back. With regeneration helping, big brakes weren't a necessity. However, getting rid of annoying brake dust is a necessity on all 4 corners.

Use a small piece of wood against those pins when reinstalling and hammer against it to mitigate the risk of chipping the paint on the calipers. Happy New Year!

Team 512 - I don’t find I get much. It’s weird... My dust seems to be road dust. I wipe the outside with detail spray and wash about every 2 -weeks. Although my wheels are Ceramic coated.

Pretty easy fix, I evidently don’t have the brembro pads on my Stingray cause I don’t have that amount of dust. But have seen many vlogs using the new pads you just installed. So when the time comes I’ll certainly install these.

Easiest brake pad swap I’ve ever done on a car. Definitely been worth it as the brake dust is much less than the stock Brembos on the C7 Corvette. You could easily do this with a floor jack on a level surface in no time.

Yep and yep good video. Powerstops are dust free. Ran them on camaro and vette. Could not live with the brake dust! Brembos dust more than any brakes i have had by far. Happy New year brother.

I found the powerstop pins that came with pads were not as good of quality as the o.e. pins so i reused the original pins.

You have to use a punch with a recessed end to pop those pins. Your using a flat end punch which could easily slip off the pin and scratch your caliper.

That is correct. Unfortunately, these were the only punches I had available at the time I filmed this video. Luckily I was careful enough not to scratch the caliper. They're on my list for my next trip to HF. Thanks!

These brakes are solid performers. I've had them out on the track, aggressive backroad driving and daily driving. Very low dust and stop as good, if not better than the stock Brembo pads. Bro I have a 19 grandsport, love the car but I hate the brake dust. Biggest complaint and i wish i could close the passanger vents, so i can gace more ac. That impact is good but I got the 1/2 Dewalt brushless, that thing takes of lugnuts off semi trucks😁 that 3/8 has balls that was my everyday tool when I wrenched:] do you still recommend these brakes?

Thank you for this video. I did the swap yesterday and followed the break-in instructions. These new pads make an unpleasant grinding noise. Will this go away with time? I also noticed that the original Brembo pads have a superior breaking power. I have to really stomp on these to make the car stop. Did you experience the same problem?

Plenty of life left in these rotors. I was only changing pads to reduce dust. Rotors only need to be changed or resurfaced if they’re worn out.

Pads for the GS and Z06’s are different than the pads for the Stingray or Z51. We carry pads for all sub models of vettes.

The car has a Carlyle 15" conversion but came with the factory calipers and A-arms (not sure if that's their official name) and I'd like to put the slotted Zo6 rotors all around on it and will need pads for the rears at least. Great video. However, the brake dust is not coming from the pads. The dust is caused by your slotted rotors. If you go with smooth rotors, you will no longer have a problem.

@@Team512 I have a 2018 Stingray with chrome rims. I always check for dust after a drive and believe me I can not find dust anywhere. My car has 4000 miles on it and came with the stock smooth Corvette rotors from Chevy. I will never use slotted rotors. Everyone that complains about dust either has a Grand Sport or a Z06. Hence the slotted rotors. Do yourself a favor, if you're still not completely satisfied with the dust issue since installing your new pads, get a set of smooth rotors and put them on. You will be amazed. Your car will stop on a dime and I guarantee your brake dust issue is completely gone. If you still have the pads you took off in this video, save them. The next time you need new pads, put them back on. There's nothing wrong with them. If you want to further clarify, ask anyone that has a stock Stingray, or go look at one and check it for dust. You won't find any. Then check out another stock Grand Sport or Z06 with slotted rotors. You will find plenty of dust.

So I purchased the exact same pads but let the guys at the dealership do the install and they informed me that these pads wont fit due to some sensor that was in the way and also said the rear pads were completely different. Anyone else experience this issue?? my grand sport is a 2018 by the way, don't know if that should matter.

Hi Scott does your driver rear brake pads have a line gap in it? Mine has a line in it and is causing the rotor to show a line on it

Can you confirm the torque on the front caliper bolt that you removed.

Yes sir! Forgot to mention it in the video. That is the bridge pin bolt and the torque spec is 22lbft. I’ll add it to the description. Thank you!

Does that Dewalt driver take the lugs off at factory torque of 100ft pounds or do u need to use bar to break them loose first ? I have a electric Ryobi impact drill rated at 183 ft pounds and it can’t take the lugs off when they are torqued to 100 ft pounds lol.

Great question. I typically don’t put any thread locker on my brake bolts. You could use the blue stuff. I would avoid the red thread locker tho.

If thats all the brake dust you have after 100 miles, you have no dust issue at all.

The new pads have significantly less dust than the stock Brembos. Cleaning just got easier. And that was the purpose for the swap. Thanks for watching! 👍

Are you referring to the procedure or the pads? The brake pads are different between the Stingray, the Z51 and GS/Z06.

@@Team512 both, I did not know the calipers or pads varied based on the models of corvette. Im getting a stingray and wanted to know if I would have to deal with the same brake dust problem

@@charliebricks9323 Gotcha. I believe the majority of brake dust issues are with the GS and Z06's. As far as I know, the Stingrays are safe from the dust. Congrats too! You'll love it.
