C7 Z06 Double Helix Catless X-Pipe (2023)

What's up everyone and welcome back to the channel! In today's video my friends Damian and Chris help me install my brand new Catless Double Helix X-Pipe for my C7 Z06 from Cornerstone Performance. I also hit 50,000 miles on my Z06!!!
CORSA & BORLA NO LONGER SELL THE CATLESS DOUBLE HELIX X-PIPE
Here are some basic instructions that I followed, but I would advise watching this video from Corsa below.
Basic Instructions:
1. Remove the under-tray (24 bolts)
2. Remove the hanger grommet bolts
3. Loosen the clamp bolts on the stock x-pipe
4. Remove the 4 bolts at the front of the x-pipe
5. Move the x-pipe down and pull forward (away) from the axle back side
6. Remove donut head gaskets with a flathead (move to the new pipe)
7. Remove the hanger grommet and (move to the new pipe)
8. Reverse order starting at 5

I had Corsa Extream exhaust on one of my 2019 Z06s, with the Corsa and X pipe it sounded awesome. I have had 8 different C7 Z06s sold my last one about 8 months ago waiting to get my C8 Z06, well I’m still waiting GM is dragging along. Wish I had a C7 Z back in my garage. Keep up the content

Great video Koby, after watching couple of videos around and looking for different options this x pipe has the best sound- loud and still refine. Thank you for sharing this content. Buying one for my Z06 pretty soon!

2015 1LZ, 7MT, torche red, 24k miles on it. I’ve added the attack blue air filter other than that the car is completely stock. Looking to add this x pipe for a more aggressive sound.

Sounds great! I did the Borla myself a few years back (I think I have a startup vid in my shorts) and I liked the slight increase in noise. I had no idea they were now banned. I find it’s just perfect, and not too crazy loud. I could feel the increase in throttle response myself, I’m guessing I picked up 15-20RWHP.

I’m going to safely assume they were banned because you can’t find them anywhere on their website and it looks like the corvette forums have had the same issue. Honestly, probably for the better! No way was I going to pay $7XX something for the same exact pipe (that I’ll never see unless I’m under there car)!

@@kobyspurgin yes for-sure. I bought the X-pipe about 6 years ago. I think the price was in the $400 range if I remember right. I know I wouldn’t have paid that much either. It was only the corsa and borla out at that time. One of the best mods anyhow! The only other thing I did was a filter swamp.

@@kobyspurgin BMS drop in dry filter. Apparently they dyno at 30HP gain. Not sure if I believe it, but, that’s what their charts say. These Z’s make big gains when it comes to intake/exhaust mods. It let’s that blower breath easier, and push a touch more boost!

I found out the hard way. I bought an X-pipe from Borla 2 weeks ago and had to return it cuz I got a half a freaking x-pipe. I found out that they are 50 state legal, so they gave me a half a pipe. I said to them, What am I going to do with this? I found another company that does the whole x-pipe and I just installed it today.

Most likely the EPA and state restrictions. They sell pipes for flow, but no double helix :/

If stock is a 5/10 then I would say it’s a 6.5/10. Corsa extremes will bump it up, long tube headers and a cam would max it out to 10/10

Tighten the bolts farther up the pipe where it’s narrower and used a flat head screwdriver and hammer/mallet and moved it down into position and then tightened it. It took a while but we finally got it to work!

I had no problems with it. The only trouble we had was getting the clamps around the X-pipe and axle back. There wasn’t a lot of thread space to get it tight.

No check engine lights! I haven’t had the car tuned yet and it’s already an improvement! Car breathes better and sounds better. You hear the difference on the cold starts and when you are on the throttle!

I think if I remember correctly the pipe was cut in half and I didn’t want to have double the hose clamps

@@camsporbert5201 it’s deeper and louder, mainly just noticeable when you’re doing a cold start or on the throttle and pushing it. The corsa extremes (once added) will probably be the most noticeable sound increase.

Not a criticism, but genuine question: why not put new exhaust gaskets on? Otherwise, it sounds amazing! Great choice

Honestly, It did come across my mind when I saw how bad they looked, but at that point we were already an hour into the job - I don't plan to do the axel back part myself so I might have the muffler shop replace the gaskets if they need to take apart the mid-pipe to properly fit the axel-back in.

@@kobyspurgin I have every confidence that you could do the rear exhaust yourself. The worst thing that happens is it takes 2 days to finish, like my steering wheel swap video. Lol!!

@@shanescarlife I am going to replace my steering wheel later this year HAHA! In 2019 they started making these super nice AC Delco wheels for the newer Z06's. The stock shape looks really good to me, but also these custom ones are wayyyy more expensive than I thought! Having friends with 4 post lifts really help - No way am I getting under my car with just jack stands lol.

No secondary cats, just installed corsa extremes- new video coming soon. Just lost my grandfather so I haven’t felt like posting that video yet. ❤️

Is the double helix xpipe better than the regular corsa xpipe? Do you know which one is louder?

Double Helix X-Pipe is better. It improves flow and is louder. All the big brands were banned from selling true X-Pipes/Offroad pipes. Corsa only sells “flow” now. Buy the one I linked if that still works. It’s identical to the old Corsa X-Pipe if I’m not mistaken!!

Overall would you say the X-pipe was worth it? I have a 15 Z06 and want a bit more sound from it. I’ve thought about doing headers but I’m concerned that might end up being too loud. Does this xpipe provide more sound overall? Cold start, revs, under load? Curious to hear your honest opinion

100% worth it!! More sound and the car breathes better. More fun to hear the car shifting. It’s not too crazy. I would say headers and X pipe will be loud but X pipe headers and corsa exhaust will be too loud. I would say X pipe yes, and then choose either the headers or the corsa extremes. All 3 it might be obnoxiously loud

Thanks for the quick response. I think I will be adding this mod soon! I just wanted to make sure it was at least a noticeable difference. Not expecting anything extreme but enough of a difference in sound from the x pipe to make it worth it :) Sounds like it is and you’d do all over again!

@@blakebrinkerhoff5669 I would do it over again!! Makes the car a lot more fun. It’s too quiet stock! With the X-pipe you can hear when the car want to shift. Downshifts are so much fun now

Can’t wait! I ordered mine today! Definitely glad you say downshifts are louder. I’ve always thought it needed a bit more bite and sound on the downshifts

@kobyspurgin I have the corsa catback exhaust on my z06 right now. I'm thinking of changing out the stock x pipe too but afraid that it will be way too loud where it's become annoying. Have you replace the stock exhaust yet?

@@TK-ig1gm I haven’t but there have been enough videos posted that you can see its not too bad. I think the exhaust make its louder and changes the sound, but the X-pipe with make it a little bit louder. I think its an important mod that will improve the flow of the exhaust

I have not done those installs yet - I did install a new blue attack air filter on my channel. If you can spend the money just go for the CAI over just a new filter.

@@chrisphalen5224 I think the car certainly breathes better. There is a possibility of better gas mileage, but all I notice is more soot on the exhaust tips. Sound and flow has improved - I guess the gas mileage has improved, but here recently I haven't been driving eco-friendly lol

@kobyspurgin sooo TECHNICALLY you're still emission compliant. Is yours a Corsa unit? I notice on Corsas website it says the double helix is for off road use only, which is silly since the car will still retain 2 cats.

@@benjaminpeace2967 corsa shouldn’t have the double helix x pipe on their website anymore. I think EPA banned them or told them and Borla to stop. Make sure it’s sound and flow. Yeah I’ve never had an emissions problem. X-Pipe I could find was cornerstone which is the same exact shape as corsa. Axle back exhaust set up now is corsa extreme. I made a video on those differences. Sounds perfect now

@kobyspurgin is it not too loud with the extreme? They actually still have it listed believe it or not. I don't see why they'd have to pull it though. Kooks and so many others still sell offroad midwives so I see no difference

@@kobyspurgin That's great. This is just the X-pipe I've been searching for. I've been reading how they are not street legal. Do you know if a dealership will still work on corvettes with this cat delete pipe? Also wondering if this X Pipe will void the warranty?

@@robgoudy1149 X-Pipe won’t void the warranty as it is just a “bolt on” - once you start messing with the computer/tune that’s what voids the warranty. I’m sure any shop would be happy to switch it out.

@@kobyspurgin Ok that's good to know. My next question will be, will I need a tune after putting on this X-pipe? My plan is to put on this X-pipe and Corsa valve back mufflers with the NPP's. I'm thinking I may not need a tune with that setup, but not sure.

@@robgoudy1149 you won’t need a tune, but a tune will maximize your output. I plan to do corsa axle backs as well but I don’t care to have the valves.

EPA is most likely cracking down on Corsa, Borla and AWE for selling “off road X-pipes” for street use. The site I mention is the only place I’ve been able to find one for sale that is brand new. SMOG testing and sound ordinances in certain states might have ruined a lot of that. Shops in California won’t even install them from what I’ve heard.

Hey Kobe! Welcome to the channel! I like your name haha!! I have had a few problems - I had a few bent wheels and the AC compressor went out once. The car naturally runs a little lean so you might go into limp mode around 178-179mph. I changed the air filter in it and it goes into limp mode around 140. Reflash the ECM and it should be good. Tell me more about your Z06!

@@kobyspurgin I heard about the cracked rims. Will that happen if I go aftermarket? I don’t like the chrome wheels I have right now I’m going for black since my z06 is black. It’s a 2017 LZ1 with z07 package. I got it 2 days ago. So far I love it and already itching to mod the exhaust right away.

@@kobyspurgin i haven’t gone that fast in it yet. Previous owner installed afe intake as the only mod. Is that limp mode problem in all the z06s or just 15 and 16 models

@@K06E very nice! Aftermarket wheels can get expensive fast! I went with Vossen HF-5 wheels for around $4500 and I love them! They look incredible on the car. They are Hybrid Forged and I have had no problems!

@@K06E Limp mode can happen in any car. It’s more rare in 2017+ since the supercharger lid was redesigned! Generally limp mode occurs because of WOT (wide open throttle). Think of it like your going 80mph and then you step on it. The car just doesn’t want to run that way. The C7 Z06s are run a little lean.
