I compare the German made Porsche 992 to the American made C8 Corvette to determine who really makes the better car. The base price of these cars is very close, they are both mid-engine, and both punch way above their weight. Who do you think will come out on top?

The reason the Porsche doesn't have more cupholders is that in Germany you don't drink in your car, so any German car that is sold in the American market has cupholders added on as an afterthought. Another great example is the bmw e90s cupholders

The Corvette looks like it's hauling ass when standing still. The Porsche looks so similar to the original, it's as if the designers were told to do as little as possible over the years. Both gorgeous but oh so different.

The C8 should be compared to the Cayman 718, not to the 992. The C8 is a mid engine car, so is the Cayman. Also, the MSRP of the C8 is more in line with the Cayman rather than the 911.

I have and always will distinguish a Stingray corvette as a “sports car”, not a super car. Different story if you mention Z06 and higher trims.

This comparison is actually between a car that can have an MSRP under $70K even with the Z51 package (C8) vs a car that starts at $100K (992). Bang for the buck = C8.

Well remember, MSRP is not even something to consider with the C8. C8s are being marked above MSRP at least $30,000 by most dealers in the US. Overseas it’s even worse when you add importing fees in the 5 figures. That puts you neck and neck with a base MSRP 992 Carrera in the states/Carrera 4S if you’re cross shopping from Europe.

It's true there are markups if you want the car NOW (i.e. it's already on the lot), but you will pay MSRP (or maybe just a little bit more) if you order your car the standard way, to your own specs. Of course, the wait time can be quite long right now, but that will eventually become much shorter.

Good video and comparison. Two clarifications: the Porsche is rear engine and does have a second cup holder adjacent to the glove box. Overall : C8 wins the value for money comparison and has better sound. Porsche the better driving car and with their higher 911 models have the better track performance ( check out Porsche performance on the Nurburgring). And they love the new C8 in the USA - see many of them around. Again , good video.

Good comparison they both handle well and are fast because they're light my Mercedes is a supercharged 4 cyl and fast because it's so light only has 189 hp 192 ft-lbs of torque but it launches so hard

My Cayman had 2 cupholders. The 2nd one swivelled out from the passenger side above the glove box. Dunno whether that still exist. The MSRP as others have stated is way lower on the C8.

There's an additional cupholder that pops out near right side of dash inside the 911. The 911 is actually a rear engine vice mid-engine car. Couldn't help watch the smile on your face driving the 911. After 4 Vettes and many other sports cars, I finally decided to test drive a 911. Left with one and won't be going back. It is truly something that must be experienced. And this from a true blue, red blooded, USAF-retired guy who tries to buy American.

@RacerX I know this video is older and you probably know this by now, but it amazes me how many auto reviewers miss finding the second cupholder in the 992. It's in the lower part of the dash to the right of the passenger, you can see the outline of the rectangle when it's closed.

This is a well-done comparison, unbiased and factual. Since Corvette used the 911 as a benchmark, this proves up that they did a great job with that effort. Now, if I can just find a Porsche owner willing to trade for my Z51 C8 for an hour….

I've loved the 911 for over 20 years, but the turbo or a GT3 is my dream. Another but... I came close to pulling the trigger on a 2014, 911 summer of 2021. Couldn't pull the trigger, I thought to much money for a used sports car. Then I started to look at the C8, for the money and what you get, it's a great deal. I plan on getting one spring 2022. The 911 Porsche is still my dream though.

Great comparison review! I am totally onboard for my 2022 C8! However, I have not had the benefit of exposure to a Porsche at any level. It’s tough to judge any vehicle unless a person has had the opportunity to be behind the wheel. Some day, I hope to get into a Turbo S and see what I’ve been missing!

Hm, a lot of facts you don’t nail. The Vette is not a 3LT, it is 2LT. Porsche is not mid engine, prices are not similar as Porsche starts at 100K wheras 2LT Z51 Corvette is 75K (25% price diff). You also stated there is no way you can buy a 60K C8, which is also untrue at all MSRP dealerships which includes the Big 3 dealerships and more…. Ima pass on subscribing

I don't know why anyone would get an LT3 package for the Corvette and then go all gray interior. Also, you can't really compare a fully loaded Vette vs starting price of the Porsche and say that they are about the same price. Apples to apples there is at least a $25k difference in price.

I have had several Corvettes over the last 25+ years. I sold my '19 C5 Grand Sport to purchase a new '23 Z51 C8 Coupe. As much as I loved the GS, the Z51 is a big step forward from handling, acceleration, and braking. As far as looks go, both are drop dead gorgeous. Choosing one over the other is like how we would try and pick between Ginger and Mary Ann, if Mary Ann dressed for a night out. The most amazing experience in the Z51 is the launch control. If this reviewer tried it on the Z51, he would have really picked the Z51 over the Porche. It literally peels your face back. The first time I tried it, it actually startled me. In fact ever time I've used it, it startles me. People talk about the Z06 being amazing, and maybe one day I'll get to see for myself. But for now, my Z51 does everything I need from a performance car. And it fits my golf clubs easily in the trunk, another reason I chose it (and my other Corvettes) over any other sport car in my price range, which in this case was about $98k with tax and delivery.

Thx for your effort. Was a good review in general. However would like to have more precise statements for example the porsche has two cup holders and not only one. Also when you talk about break calipers you can't say big and small, you need to mention the actual size... overall nice and a thank you is due...

I can really relate to your comment about being a cockpit focused person. I love a nice cockpit and the C8 delivers big time. There are loads of reasons to love the C8, but the cockpit is really nice!

The price comparison isn't really accurate. My 2lt 2021 z51 was 78k and comes with more than everything you need and puts it well below the 911 starting price. For the money, you really can' beat the vettes performance. If you lime German engineering, there's nothing better than Porsche.

It was not the first MID-ENGINE CORVETTE made there where at least 2 prototypes but this was the FIRST too go into production

Nothing beats a manual transmission. Just because it's faster doesn't mean it's better. I'm sure there are some testlas that can beat these cars in the 1/4 but do they offer the same level of enjoyment and engagement these cars do? With that said, my pick would have to be the porsche. I think the drivetrain in the vette can withstand more abuse, but the porsches timeless and subdued styling makes it a car to adore.

Big corvette and Porsche fan here. I have had the privilege of owning corvettes and Porsche in the last. The Porsche ages so well and the interior will always hold firm. The performance and respect you get from the Porsche is amazing. Now, for my the Chevy, new corvettes are nice and will perform but we vette guys know the interior will fall apart soon and than you realize where the corners were cut. Plus the C8 just won’t age well as it is already looking a bit oldish and boxing looking. You can keep a Porsche and the value and design will continue to grow but, the Corvette will take a big hit and the design will change so much just to keep up with time which is not a bad thing. Best corvettes in my opinion C1,C2,C5( great value now), C6(08-13), C7.

Doesn’t the porche have two cup holders? The second cup holder comes out of the trim by the glove box. I think it is standard but I am not sure.

The best engineering feat from America is the Ford GT. The second is the 2013+ Viper. This Corvette is 3rd in line.

31 years of 911 ownership and after test driving the C8, the Porsche 911 is still the legend in which all else is judge by. It is what it is and Porsche is a different level of engineering. Even in base form the 911 is still a faster and better balanced performance car punching way above what it’s specs would have you believe. The Corvette is now “good” but it is not on Porsche 911 league.

Lol.. the Porsche dynos at something like, "414 hp (308 kW) and 406 lb-ft (550 Nm) of torque at the wheels", via Motor Tend, "...when you do the math backward, starting with the dyno numbers and compensating for the 15-percent drivetrain loss, the Carrera S makes 487 hp (363 kW) and 478 lb-ft (648 Nm) of torque at the crank. That's 44 hp (32 kW) and 88 lb-ft (119 Nm) more than Porsche's official numbers." :D

Carrera s Dino’s at 414, not the base model. Don’t assume a rear engine sitting behind the axle is losing 15% to drivetrain. At most, it is losing 10% or under. Which makes the S model deliver above the stated hp by 20 hp.

I love the 911 targa GTS 4 is twinturbo with electric targa roof. For now I stay with my 2015 Cayenne turbo is not fast like the 911 but still has 500HP V8 twinturbo.

Aw, BS! The price is not even close. Yes, there are mark-ups on the Vette right now, but ONLY for cars already in the showroom and available no. If you order your car and are willing to wait, you pay MSRP (or maybe a minor mark-up). Porsche options are ridiculously priced, too. Stop comparing apples to oranges. Besides, you can drive top-down in the Vette (even the Coupe). I like that.

The C8 cannot be beat, and it was already tested by Grip magazine against the Carrera S. A 3LT C8 is equivalent to a 148,000 dollar Carrera S in options. The performance on track is so close that its driver determined. Sport Auto had the C8 slower than the Carrera S and Audi R8, but not in track alignment. The German magazine picked the C8 over the Carrera S FOR A EVERDAY CAR.

as well as the 3lt is unnecessary and overly expensive. a 2lt would have been a good comparison, but then you realize how much more expensive the porsche is.

The Porsche is class. The Corvette is for HP number chasers.

I think Chevy did a great job on the C8 - but it just looks too busy, with that trying too hard look and is definitely a let down from the back - just looks kinda cheap. They could have done better IMO.

Do this when you get a chance s green shot a red corvette with the red spoiler..then screen shot a red corvette with the black spoiler..then put these photos side by side you will find that the matching color tricks the eyes and makes the rear look to busy while the black spoiler splits up the rear and helps redefine the lines of the car as they were attended to look..You will be amazed at the difference the rear end looks by doing this...Also to not the Z06 vet will have quad exhaust in the center which will look a lot better than those quad exhaust.

I own both of these cars for about a year now. 911-well made German engineering, handles better, more responsive transmission. C-8 a nice cruiser with magnetic ride control, not as well put together (ex hood does not tightly close), a beast (track mode) with straight line acceleration, and many more thumbs up (even from Lambo and Ferrari owners!)

As amazing as the C8 is...it doesn't hold a candle to the 911 and the S? Oh just forget about it. The base Carrera smokes the C8 and its not even close. With all that said I ordered a C8, but the truth is the truth..FYI there might not be another car in the 911's price range thats better.

1--You can't get either car at sticker, so don't pretend it's a C8 thing. 2--The interior of the 911 is 27+ years old, it looks, and feels like it. 3--The C8 digital display will take more time to learn completely. 4--Corvette rear view is so much better it deserves to be talked about?. 5--The Corvette chassis is near perfect, only the spyder is needed. 6--This list could maybe go into triple digits.

nice guy! gave a thumb's up. doesn't that oh-so-expensive carbon look nice with all that schmutz all over it? can't keep it out either due to the holes in the vents. that modified c8 removable T-top/sunroof is a feature that isn't given enough credit. it gives one all the open-air driving experience one needs, IMO. i've had them on another sports car and they are an excellent option. on this car, it's free. in the 21st century they've refined something called "traction control" to the point where wasted torque and horsepower converted into tire spin is a thing of the past. usually, it (spin) can be accomplished if one finds it necessary by disabling the traction control via a button or on a menu somewhere. in fact, it's one of the things (traction, transformed into performance) that GM finally realized was not going to be found by simply adding more horsepower to the corvette, they moved to the mid-engine design to put more weight in the rear end, to, among other things, improve traction. not surprised the narrator was perplexed about the cup holders. porsche has been using a hidden two cup cupholder system integrated into the dash trim for more than two, maybe three, decades now. they've been accused of putting it in explicitly for the american market. ...wouldn't surprise me.
