Went on a cab ride on Sri Lanka Railways' Chinese Powerset, Class S12 930 and 931 with the Podi Menike to Nawalapitiya.
This was my first ever trip beyond Kandy - on the Badulla line, but didn't do a full trip to Badulla, just a short ride to Nawalapitiya on the Podi Menike hauled by S12 930/931 and returned back to Colombo (Running Shed) on the Udarata Menike hauled by S12 921/24.
The journey started from the Running Shed at around 5:00am. The departure time was at 5:55am from Colombo Fort. It was a great trip with a cold and chilly weather with an Amazing Sunrise! We reached Nawalapitiya at 10:00am and the crew was shifted at NVP - the next crew took the train to Badulla. smile emoticon
Till then, our train back was the Udarata Menike (down) from Badulla to Colombo Fort which was scheduled to arrive at NVP at 11:40am, but it was delayed for 15 minutes. Till that time, we rested in the Running Bungalow.
When the time came, we set off back to Colombo and it was really an awesome trip to remember. Next time I should try Badulla, a 8 - 10 hour ride.
