Hi when we make cabbage 🥬 soup in Ireland 🇮🇪, it’s normally cooked in the water that fresh ham was cooked in. We cook the cabbage in the salted water from the ham, and that’s it. Now! Firstly, you need to be beside a bathroom at all times 🤦♀️ as it cleanses you out, Completely 😂🥬. All the goodness from the ham and cabbage is full of goodness. The soup your making here, we in Ireland would call vegetable soup. I use mine blended, also add chicken fillets or Stewing beef, it’s absolutely delicious 💚🇮🇪🥬☘️😛
I used to eat cabbage soup everyday when I was losing weight. I would do cabbage carrots celery and onions in bone broth. It was so good and I plan to do it again after I deliver my baby.
I made the soup last night, slow cook it.... It is totally a lot of soup, I tried it this morning... I am shocked how amazing it taste, I already see why it causes you to lose weight.... I'm very happy 😊.... Thank you so much for the recipe 🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗
Cabbage Soup Diet has been around for decades with many variations. The sodium levels in those canned tomatoes are sky high. Better to buy fresh tomatoes and chop or puree. Thanks for your variation.
Did you know: if you cut the cabbage stem off with an inch to 1.5 inches of the head an place that in water, it will grow roots after a few days and you can plant it in a container or garden bed and it will grow a cabbage plant? Same for carrot tops…cut the top off with about an inch to 1.5 inches of the root and put them in a container of damp potting soil and it will grow a new carrot 🥕. Same for the bottom stem of celery if you buy it by the uncut bunch. Cut the bottom stem off and put it in water until it grows roots, then plant! Same for onions and garlic. Cut the root base off with at least an inch of the bulb attached, spake in water until it roots and plant it! Make sure to change out the water your starters are soaking in every day while waiting for the roots to grow. Also, water the new plants lightly at the base of the plant 2-3 times a week
Hi! Thank you for sharing this recipe. I was skinny as a rail until I was 53. Then I suddenly gained about 75 pounds and couldn't figure out why. Turns out. I have a tumor in my thyroid gland, and even though I take synthetic now, I just can't seem to lose any weight. I will try this. Thanks again!!
With all due respect, never, ever, ever, ever, ever, omit the celery leaves from whatever you are cooking! The leaves are key to adding the celery flavor to any dish. The cabbage will wilt down as will the celery leaves, they literally become part of the broth.
Oh I was just going to say that! I've made cabbage soup for years, it's ine of my favorites. And those celery leaves are a key flavoring. Looking forward to see what else cooks up here. Subscribed!
Thanks I never try cabbage soup before, I'm Puertorican and we got lots of fry food, I have to loose some weight and get healthy for medical issues, the soup looks delicious, I'm gonna give a try then in two weeks I'll be back for my results. I love your presentation, is very nice, thank you.
I added some zucchini, green beans, green bell pepper and a teaspoon of red pepper flakes instead of hot sauce. And I also made mine in a slow cooker.... YUMMMMMO
1st time viewer this soup is great I've made it and you really lose weight I lost 14 pounds in 7 days !I had 2 baked chicken breast that week 3 bananas through ot the week no salt. Thankyou excellent presentation 🥕🥬🥕
@@shanaazmohammed7713 I don't use the dry soup mixes or starchy vegetables 1st 7 days I ate it breakfast lunch dinner little in between if I got hungry I only drank water as much as I wanted black coffee skim milk 6 ounces a day a banana once every other day only 2 chicken breast twice that week baked or boiled no salt and munched on a celery stick or cucumber no salt. Don't give up after a couple of days you start getting used to it if I got hungry I would it the soup also try to take walks that really helps I felt so good and proud of myself because I started losing weight gets you motivated to eat better😁
@@danahobbs4420 oh that's so encouraging to hear stories of success like yours!!! As soon as I get all the ingredients for this, I'll have to try it out and see 😉 Thank you for sharing your story 💞
So are you following the whole cabbage soup diet plan or just the soup? Also, you people in the comment section need to stop being rude with the celery leaf comments and how to peel the carrots. Peel your carrots however you want buddy and eat the leaves or throw them out in the yard. Good video you did a nice job.
@@kerstin.jitschin5861 love this I'll stick to it for it 2 weeks last time I did not I had soup in plus walked for one hour everu day I lost twelve kilos
I had forgotten about this soup, first heard about it in the 80's. So glad you resurfaced this recipe. It looks very good, I'm sure it's tasty as well. I will be sure to try it as well. Thank you!!
The Cabbage soup diet works! (Whatever variation of ingredients you desire! ) But for me, I found it easier to consume if I first blended the finished soup! For some reason, the resulting thinner soup was actually tastier!😂
Yes it will be . If you cut a small onion in something it will be good if you Pulverize in a blender it will be SO STRONG in the same pot of food you wont be able to eat. Kind of like concentrate.
I used this soup before but I used a chopper to chopped up my vegetables and made them more smaller and lost more weight. Up to 17lb in one week when you eat nothing but this the first week.
FIRST TIME VIEWING YOUR YOU TUBE .IMPRESSED THE WAY YOU GAVE US HINTS ON CUTTING THE CELERY .GOOD TO KNOW FOR NEXT TIME .LOOKING FORWARD IN ATTEMPTING THIS SOUP. KICK START A NEW RECIPE .HOPE THE KIDS ENJOY THIS MEAL .HELP US SHED A FEW KILOS .😊🙏🏻🙏🏽🇺🇸🎧🥬🥬🥕🥕🍒
Looks delicious! One little suggestion: add your spices before the water. When you pour on the water it will pull your spices through your veggies and start flavoring them sooner. Thanks for your video.
I'm going to make this right now. I'm going to the store for garlic. I was going to cook a cabbage two days ago and changed my mind. I had every ingredient except garlic. Now I ready to get started. I'm going to enjoy this for the next two days.
Keep shaving how you do it, I’m making this tonight. Lol There’s many types of veggie peelers and depending on which hand you use, sometimes they are made to be peeled towards you. Just a FYI
I had a bad problem with my stomach I was thought it was ulcers which it was and I went on the cabbage diet for about a week that’s all I ate do you know I never had another stomach ache so that was a good thing
This looks absolutely amazing!! I am definitely going to try this!! I am currently on a weight loss journey and am always looking for healthy filling meals. I will be looking for more. The air fryer catfish looks amazing too. 😃
No he didn't prewash the vegetables! The 🥕 were not washed, after scrapping and the celery I saw some brown particles. I'm not complaining, I'm just saying, wash them before the video, if possible. Love the recipe.
Great recipe! It you want to keep cooking this, you should get a stock pot for bigger meals like this to cook in so you don't have stuff spill over the edge. The smallest of those really large pots that people make tamales in would also work. Also, you should get some oversized metal bowls where you could mix the ingredients with the spices before putting them to cook, maybe do half first, then the other half. In addition to this, you could cook everything in bone broth, chicken stock, or vegetable stock for non-meat eaters. I myself have started eating cabbage in every meal.
Cabbage is amazing vegetable it's crufuferous like broccoli ,cauliflower etc eat one of these & you'll see a difference in your health. Don't forget Brussel sprouts, too .try to eat one of these every day. Put 2 or 3 in a salad. God bless you & take care & eat healthy⛪⛪
I make this soup too but I add broccoli, green beans, cauliflower, green red yellow peppers and I add chicken or vegetable broth. I put it in canning jars and store them in the refrigerator. It lasts a month or so because when you put it in the jars hot the lids seal it. The only thing is you don't put starchy veggies like potatoes, corn or peas
i am 6` tall & 175 lbs=ok n healthy, BUT ! i carried a little kangaROO lil pouch around my mid section, & i started eating this cabbage soup & mid was soo GONE . i ate it all day long=delish / tastY ! i ate it cold=delish, i ate it hot=delish, BUT ! i had to stop . i didn`t want to lose too much weight . Ppl. said ;you look soo thin n healthy, how much do u want to lose ?? i joked "i weighed 8 lbs when i was born" !!!
This is my first time of watching your video and I'm impressed. Thank you for your effort in making it. Thank you for not minding silly comments of discouragement. Some people can't do anything but love to criticize others doing it. May God forgive them. Some said he should have skipped the steps he used in preparing the soup while some were saying he didn't show the process. Bro, just continue your good work. God bless you.
I've been doing this diet on and off for about 40 years. The soup was always lacking flavor until I put it in my Ninja and blended the flavors together. It is SO much better. I love it. I added chia and flax as well...very good.
@@karenswiney9759 I wasn't crazy about it either until I put it in my Ninja. If you have a blender, give it a try. When those flavors are blended together it's a whole different ball game.
@@Jenna_Bug The directions I got years ago was that you're supposed to stuff yourself with it. Anytime you feel hungry...eat it. I think because it makes your body work so hard to burn those foods you're it creates a negative calorie situation. Some people believe in that theory and others don't. Keep in mind, this diet can lead to mal-nutrition so be careful. It's a very short term diet and not a lifestyles change that is needed to really lose weight.
I'm starting this today, but I use lipton onion soup mix, beef bullion cubes about 6, and cayenne pepper, instead of all those seasoning you just saw mixed in, but this soup really works
We are trying this out right now, it is on the stove. Looks and smells great! We could lose a few pounds but mainly I have a sensitive stomach and have to take baking soda and water frequently. Thanks for your recipe!
I made this, including a bag of lentils at a cost of $12.03. Made 22 servings, or a week’s worth of food. $0.54 per meal and it tastes great. Can’t nobody say that eating healthy can’t be both cheap & delicious
I absolutely love this soup. I'm very thin and tall so it was not something I needed. But once I found out how wonderful it was I made it all the time my children thought they were being tortured!!
Right? When my family would walk through the door, they'd fake gag and complain loudly about how they couldn't stand the smell, and they weren't even required to eat it!
Hi Thanks for the video, I love cabbage soup & have seen many recipes over the years & noticed many folks put in all manner of ingredients except for nutrient dense Ingredients. Some put sugar into it to cut acidity which is a bad mistake. These are the ingredients I add along with what you added. Instead of the canned tomatoes, I add a jar of Passata or strained tomatoes cause the seeds & skin are removed, also I omit chili powder & bell peppers because these items are nightshades & if your prone to inflammation like I am, you don't want these items. I don't add onion powder unless I am out of onions, but instead I use leeks, shallots, Vidalia onion when available & regular cooking onions, so about 6 onions because of their beneficial nutrients. Also if your brave enough lol I add a 3 inch piece of freshly shredded Horseradish root processed fine, as this is an immune booster as is the garlic so I double the garlic to 4-5 cloves. THEN in order of firmness I add Kale Spinach frsh chopped Parsley ( Handful ) shredded squash of your liking, I prefer acorn or Hubbard squash but a very small one cause you don't want it to over take the cabbage taste, celery & its leaves, I do add hot sauce despite its a nightshade for a flavour boost which bell peppers do not have on their own. I also add about an 8th of a cup of raw apple cider vinegar because this helps boost weight loss & to sweeten the soup and counter the effect of the acid from the tomatoes & vinegar I add about 1/4 cup raw honey & a shredded apple & Rhubarb. tart & sweet together. I alter the soup ingredients according to season as well. Seasoning varies again by season or preferred taste at the moment I prefer Dill Thyme & Basil together, not keen on Oregano like I use to be. But this is how I make any soups not just cabbage, Nutrient dense vegetables & FRUITS even though this doesn't sound appealing, it lends a sweet note to the soups & possibly a tangy hint along with sweet & spicy, a truly interesting array of textures & flavours. but I keep it fresh at all times because it is a diet soup so all ingredients should be nutrient dense because when dieting most people dont think about the nutrients they maybe losing through dieting & this is one of the better ways to maintain a nutrient balance. This is also tru of smoothies or Booster shots using fresh roots herbs & juices from fruits & vegetable. they are alive & pack HUGE benefits to immunity & beating diseases such as cancer & helping control conditions like Chroans & Irritable bowel. SOUPS are healing if thought out well in advance. Thanks for this video, I love watching people cooking & seeing their methods & gain new ideas when I am foggy in the brain LOL
Thank you for sharing your thoughts. Brings in new perspective. I personally think I’ll go with your recommendations… and if I have this each night 365 days, a pat of butter or ghee wouldn’t hurt! Thank you again.
Did you know that the leaves have most of the insecticide in them. I used to use them but I have not since I found out the insecticide in the leaves.Just a tip
Just an fyi. if you put a damp towel under your cutting board it wont slip around on you...just a trick I learned working in a kitchen. Hope it helps. Those leaves your throwing away of the celery are the most nutritious. part of the celery, It adds a lot of flavor and vitamins A,C,K and Folate
So, after checking to see what ingredients I'll need (celery only) I can start this tomorrow (5-28-22)! My goal is 20lbs, so a two week trial? We shall see 🤞😊 I love cabbage so I'm really looking forward to this😉 Oh, I love Texas Pete!!! Haven't found it in any grocery store yet (WA State), but luckily I have a family in NC who had sent me a bottle 💞. Plus, you got a new sub here for the Texas Pete addition 😋
@@robyndurdin6965 oh, not so good... I've not made this yet, but I do have all the ingredients for this recipe.... once I do start it, I will certainly keep all those that would like to know of how it turns out 😉... I'm certainly hoping in the next few days as I don't want all the ingredients to go bad... I've also saved this to one of my "favorite foods" lists...😉
Ok, sorry for delay folks 😔 today is June 22nd. I've had the soup this evening. I didn't start right away since I had coffee with cream and sugar. So I suppose tomorrow will be my official start date. The biggest reason for my delay is the fact that I don't really care for black coffee ( one of my best excuses). I will write my experience on my comment. I weighed in at 129 today (6-22-22). The only thing I didn't add to this recipe was the chili seasoning. Tomorrow I will be doing without any additives for my coffee and will drink water, which I don't usually drink and I will post results on 6-29-22) and if I feel like I need more time then I will post then. Sorry to the people who have asked me how I was doing on this experiment and didn't reply 😔
If you use a bayleaf,it may absorb much of the cabbage smell...Loves these vegetables so i will definently try and make something like this, maybe with some chicken or beef in it and a little less tomatoes..
I never scrape my carrots. Of course i rinse to get rid of excess dirt, but you are throwing out added nutrients which form only in the skin. And i agree with the celery tops. Always use them
This is great for those who are meatless. If you enjoy meat you can use beef/chicken/ham/turkey broth instead of water. The meat flavors come in cans/boxes and soup bases. We keep soup bases handy as they take up way less space to store. Using different soup flavors will enable to continue to enjoy this cabbage soup for a longer time as you won’t get tired of it. It does help weight loss but your body will tell you when to ease up to add other foods to eat.
I hate vegetables so after making this soup I put it in blender n made it into smoothie soup. Hope it works this way🙏182lbs today. Will see in 7 days if it worked
The "cabbage soup diet" also includes other foods you are supposed to eat each day, not mentioned here! (The day with eating 8 bananas almost killed me! I hate bananas!) I followed the diet exactly and actually gained weight!
This is a delicious recipe. Made it many times. I add potatoes too. I know some think it’s not good for a diet but you still lose weight. May I suggest you start your onions & celery first in some olive oil or some other fat. You need fat for the carbs to stick to. Then add in your spices & garlic and let them flavor your soup. Add the rest in stages as it cooks down. Also my dude, get a Victorinox Chef Knife 🔪 amazing how much easier the chopping will be 😉
One thing I forgot is that you have to make enough soup for two weeks. Originally this was a fasting diet. No solid foods until about fourth day. People complained and over years it became this virgin. I myself never liked cooked cabbage and acquired a taste for it.
My step mom shared this diet with me when her heart doctor put her on it 30 yrs ago. I've used the diet a couple of times over the years & I really lost almost 20 pounds in a week, but I did not ever want cabbage soup again. 🤣
My grandmother taught us to use a scrubby on carrot skins - it’s a little faster, not that that’s really important. I am definitely going to cook this!
This soup looks very very good. I am going to try it today. I noticed that you forgot to add your 1 onion to your list of ingredients above. Thank you for this recipe. God bless. 🙏
I add bell peppers the sweet ones depends on the size of pot it will be 1 to 3 sweet bell peppers. Also as you can use all types of broth, chicken, beef, turkey and vegetable. Each broth brings a different taste. And later after you loose you can add other vegetables just keep the starch type ones to a low amount. Water chestnuts, bok choy are also very low calorie and gives a nice crunch.
I don't eat onions or garlic or chilli or hot sauce. In mine I split the amount of ingredients and leave half the cabbage etc in the fridge and use half of ingredients and I still just shake a bit of onion and garlic powder, I also add tomatoe puree and a sprinkle of curry powder and gives it more flavour. I eat this for lunch and dinner and bran etc for breakfast, drink plenty of water and I lost weight to get in my wedding dress, and now I'm gonna do this diet again.
Did not mention two things. How many cups of water and also after he put the onion powder, he added a spice but did not give the name of the spice just mentioned that he would not put a teaspoon of it only a bit and sprinkled it. I only hope he reads my comment and let me know what ingredient he put after putting the onion powder and the amount of water he put for the soup . Thank you. Ruth Coward.
I try diet. The saying you said about carrots good for eye sight comes from England in 1940's during WW2 the RAF pilots use to say that eating carrots can see better at night for spotting Germen planes. But it was used to deceive Germans as what they was really doing was using the new radar in aircraft. Just thought you like to know that saying
