Welcome to the Northwoods! Our log cabin homestead sits on 18 acres of wooded land in Northern Wisconsin and we're preparing it for spring homesteading. We're starting our garden seeds, repairing the four-wheeler, and swapping out our winter gear for spring. The free-range chickens and are laying eggs in strange places and the Big Mama chicken is being funny as usual! Hope you all have a wonderful day and thank you so much for watching. Good morning! Thank you so much for watching! In this video I start a few garden starter plants from seed, including some flowers that are new to me. Just wanted to let you know that the Delphinium is a highly toxic plant so be aware of that if you decide to plant that one, I may or may not put it in the garden, as the chickens do often fly into the garden fence and still munch on things. I know rhubarb leaves are also toxic (which I do not plan on getting rid of) but I generally don't like planting toxic plants. Kind of bummed to hear Delphinium is toxic - however, the Johnny Jump Ups and Purple Coneflower are not toxic. I'm also doing some research here this morning and figured out that Purple Coneflower can also benefit from the cold moist stratification process like I am doing for the Lavendar. Just wanted to pass along some of the new information I'm learning with these new plants. I will be starting a lot more garden starters as the weeks go on! I do think the chickens are enjoying this nice weather, they're eating a lot of grass that's starting to come up. Ha, yeah, I think they can be a little bit of a nuisance with the hoop shed, they always go in there. Thank you for watching!

So happy you tuned in! I'm happy to show the chickens, they're really the life of the homestead right now as the end of winter/early spring isn't too eventful. Glad you liked to see their personalities, Big Mama is SO funny and the rooster is pretty cool, lol and can be a little weird! He's a great rooster though. It's a small start to the garden, but it's a start none the less. I plan to start so many more seeds as time goes on. Just a little at a time gets things going! Shane can fix anything it seems, he's so mechanical and that's great for our thrifty homestead! Thanks for watching! Hope you have a good day.

Yay Krumries. Hi guys. Happy St. Patrick's Day. I keep an old school hand air pump in my car. Those things work great. How do you properly dispose of bad eggs? I hear the smell is terrible. I look forward to seeing you guys soon.😊

Hello!! Happy St. Patrick's Day to you too coming up! That's a great idea to keep the hand air pump your car. I literally just throw away the bad eggs, I've never had them be too smelly, the only ones that got smelly were the ones that a broody chicken sat on for nearly a month and they didn't hatch. I just threw those ones away in the outside garbage and no issues. We take the garbage up weekly because of bears, so it doesn't have too much of a chance to get bad. Yep, we're having an early spring for sure - we didn't get very much snow at all this winter, so we don't even have snowmelt this year which is crazy strange. Happy to hear you are getting rain in So California, that's a great thing to keep fires from starting - we're worried a bit up here about fires since it's high fire danger everywhere right now. We need some precip. I hope next winter we get a bunch of snow like it normally is. Hope you have a good day and nice to hear from you in California!

It's a Yamaha 540 XLV, it's been a great machine for us. It's old but keeps on running - we also have a parts snowmobile for this one which has been great too. Thanks for your question!

Lol, it's okay... we have a funny sense of humor and call each other weird often. I'm a pretty mellow person so my response was probably just subtle since we joke all the time at each other.
