It was nice to be back in Joshua Tree. I wish we had a little more time but still one day was enough to completely empty our minds. We used to visit Joshua Tree often when we lived in LA. I remember watching the sunrise and coming back to work in the past. It sounds pretty crazy when I think about it now.
I am still enjoying using the R6. It is super easy to work with. With every new video, I am getting more comfortable with buttons, dials and menus.
My most favorite feature is the super accurate auto white balance. I think that is the main reason I like using this camera so much. Sony and Fuji was always scary to use auto white balance. I had to manually select WB for each shot since it was usually inconsistent. I remember filming an engagement video with Sony A7iii. I forgot the white balance in auto. What a huge mistake! A scene had 3 different color temperatures. I didn't even move the camera. White balance kept on changing. It was a nightmare to correct in post. On Canon I am not touching white balance. I just trust the camera calculation. I am not sure if anyone talked about this before. I really dig it.
I still think Canon Dynamic range is worse than pretty much any other camera brand out there. I have to be more careful when shooting contrasty scenes. But I like the highlight roll off. Even when I clip the highlights I kind of like the washed out look. This camera survived the crazy light situations in Joshua Tree. I think it will be ok for anything I film.
Forgot to add. My biggest issue is the weight. R6 and 15-35mm is a very heavy rig for me. I hope Canon makes a compact wide angle in the future. I can't carry this monster with me for everything I am planning to do in the future :)
I might get a Fuji X-S10 loaner for a project. We'll see. Not hundred percent sure.
