Cable TV “Clips Shows” Are Officially Dead 

This feels like a fake show that would be in the background of a real show...

If the hosts were actual funny people I don't think the show would be so bad

I remember back when I was a kid my family would watch AFV every Sunday before me and my brother went to bed. We all loved it, but RU-vid wasn't around/wasn't popular yet, so there weren't many places we would see those clips otherwise. Nowadays literally anyone can react to clips or you can just find compilations of them online, so these shows don't have a reason to exist anymore

I can normally push past cringe clips / reality TV through Gunnar's sacrifice of streaming it live, then posting it to YT for his loyal subjects... but this was incredibly painful to get through. But at least we all suffered together, thanks guys and Gunnar!

It's crazy how the hosts of this show look straight out of 2015...

the soup with joel mchale worked so well because the clips were often unintentionally comedic. looking at viral clips that were posted because they’re “weird and funny” leaves little to no room for actual commentary which is why the jokes on this show and shows like it fall so flat.

I think what they needed was to split the screen and show their reactions laughing saying a catchphrase "Like whats up with that" and maybe another part where a family guy episode or a gta V video is playing.

The title sounds like it's trying to convince you. "I PROMISE guys, these are totally weird and funny!"

2 things you need to make this kind of show work today. 1. People that are good curators of internet videos that are interesting or funny. and 2. Hosts that are actually funny.

I have to be honest, sometimes I am not even paying attention to what you are saying because I'm having to good of a time watching chat roast you. They get you good.

I like how the one time i took the time to look at chat, i read "Oh i wanna ride an ostrich". Made me laugh more than any of hosts did.

I once helped my friend film a final project for her film class, and I was an actress. We had a scene where there was a TV playing off screen, and it couldn't make noise because that'd be copyrighted, so she played SNL clips with no sound while the actors pretended to laugh. It felt... The same as watching this.

With shows like Ridiculousness and Tosh.0, they've gone on so long that they're more like clips of a well produced podcast than anything else.

The Joel McHale era of The Soup cannot be lumped in with these bozos. It wasn’t stupid home movie clips or social media stuff, it was making fun of reality and network tv shows. Spaghetti Cat, Stains the Dog, Spencer and his creepy flesh colored beard, it was all great stuff and I miss it dearly. I will never not think of Ryan Seacrest as a leprechaun

AFV was a classic. Sure it's kinda lame and kitschy nowadays, but you have to remember that it started airing in the 80s, when home video recorders were just becoming really popular and widely available to people. Not everyone had a little computer in their pocket with a video camera and an internet connection at all times. There wasn't anything like RU-vid or Tiktok back then, so that was one of the only places you could see silly videos of people falling down or doing pranks. Like, people would actually send in copies of their home videos on tape. So I think AFV makes sense within the historical context within which it existed. Stuff like Ridiculousness and Tosh.0 are frickin' awful, though, there's no excuse for those. I do have a little bit of a soft spot for The Soup though, just because I like Joel McHale. Finger's crossed for that Community movie. Also, does anyone remember when VH1 used to do those "I Love the 80s" type clipshows? Seeing as I was born in the 90s and don't remember a whole lot of the 80s and 90s personally, I always got a kick out of those, though I'm sure they'd be unbearably lame if I went back and watched them today. edit: Okay after watching the video, Jesus this show is far worse than any of those older clipshows, which already weren't great. Why on earth would the CW think this could work?

Hey I don’t like that last part. I still love cable tv cause I like being able to just put on a channel and watch a show that I’ve only seen once or see the last 20 minutes of a movie that I’ve seen a million times. I use streaming sites and enjoy them but there’s something about just seeing what’s on instead of just having infinite options with no commercial breaks, just non stop watching
