Also, the mother walks in the door and the 6 year old girl greets her.. first thing mom says is "look how big you've gotten!" or similar... Ita been 2 weeks! That had to be a jab at knowing they had junk food.. Man, I feel so sorry for those kids. I feel bad for the other as well, but not quite as bad. But he definitely seems to need some more discipline and to learn about moderation with junk food, etc. But those other poor kids looked so sad in every shot, almost. Sure, could be editing, but idk.

@@alexc9434 honestly showing children structure and discipline is showing love they want their kids to be responsible. The fat and lazy people are neglecting their children’s health, future goals, and abilities to have meaningful relationships. Just look at how that kid showed no respect towards the new mother from the moment she walked in and his dad laughed. You think that kid is ever going to listen to a manager that asks him to do something he doesn’t like? Do you think that kids will ever think twice about taking care if his body? Do you think that kid will ever have the self discipline to make himself do something challenging? No. So who is the real villain and neglectful parent?

For someone who puts a lot of emphasis on money she really didn't care when it came to wasting food. Both of these families are hurting their kids in different ways. Agree… and both families are so closed minded and rude about other types of lifestyles 😂
@Unhappytimeaper
@Unhappytimeaper 5 месяцев назад
I mean the show is about choosing family on opposite ends of spectrums and putting them together but I find that one common theme is one family tends to be abusive or at least neglectful in some way while the other feels misguided. Joy’s family is neglectful, it does truly have forms of abuse and overall for the kids is really sad to watch them talk about how unhappy they are. The family cares so much about fitness and money that you really can see the ways it’s damaging the kids through potential avenues of EDs and lack of mindful interactions. I don’t think Joy’s family would have to give up everything they love to become better (i.e. get them and parents into sports for healthy movement but still spending time together) but they inherently feel more like parents that felt obligated to have kids rather than wanted them. The Hollands on the other hand really do just have a lot of misguided actions, but overall many aren’t as bad just as the truth money isn’t everything. While the parents need to understand structure and care more about health regarding food (although a 7-8 year old only wanting to eat chicken nuggets isn’t as outlandish as people make it seem imo) Joy’s methods seem deeply unhelpful as it’s again rooted in money and often back to ED culture. There would be far more healthy ways to get the Hollands back on track while still letting them enjoy a lot of what they do; such as being more mindful of adding healthy option into meals, structuring things like bedtimes, and introducing more ways to exercise while playing. I just think for all the faults the Holland’s have it’s less hard to feel bad or get angry in a degree than I feel to Joy which results in a disconnect in plot lines.
@Stormflame
@Stormflame 5 месяцев назад
@@Unhappytimeaper agree, and actually the Hollands do have some, especially for the time considering this was twenty years ago, progressive views on pedagogy, like when the dad says kids should have the right to express their opinions. They just shot beyond the mark, as it is true that they also need some structure, and they also need to learn to respect other people and their boundaries. But as you said, with them it feels more like misguided good intentions, they just want their kids to be happy and would need to be educated. But the most important thing a kid needs from a parent is love, and it’s quite clear whose kids are feeling more of that… not to say joy and sarge don’t love their kids, but it doesn’t do any good if it barely shines through well-intentioned strictness.

I think the comments are ignoring the fact that, although Ginger isn't the BEST mother, she's still making a loving home where her children's emotional needs are met, and for a "Brat" Curtis actually explains his feelings VERY WELL for a child. Somehow he seems more mature in the situation. Compare that to how Sarge treats his family. I will say YES it is abusive. Physically throwing a mattress out of the room for not being made right, his daughter unable to show higher speech patterns. She talks like my 2 year old sister, and can't read? The children's emotional and mental needs are being neglected. Not to mention the insulting view the parents have on the Holland family Edit: going to add the changes, Ginger's approach was to show the kids more love and show Sarge why his kids are unhappy, and incorporate treats. Joy's first action plan was to completely remove a huge family bonding experience and immediately try to force the Holland's to sell a huge bonding experience because she deems it trashy.

@pastapirate
@pastapirate 5 месяцев назад
Absolutely, I'd go as far as to say he's ironically more mature than Joy, though that may be because the bar is low. Specifically I'd like to point out this moment 36:25 where you can see Curtis has his bat and is clearly ready to start smashing some stuff. Which of course he would, not only is he a kid but he has a derby driver for a dad and a green light to destroy stuff that he normally isn't allowed to destroy. But, when his dad says he won't do it and drops his bat, Curtis does the same exact thing without hesitating. If he were a real spoiled and out of control kid, he would just do what he wants and take the opportunity to start hitting stuff. However the fact he follows and even mirrors his dad *without* even being told what to do shows he actually does respect his father and his principles. Of course this respect extends to his mom as well, but that moment really confirms to me that they do have a real loving household. Which in my opinion, is worth much more than "discipline" or a well made bed.

@@mysticknight1494 not only that, but at some point around the poster, seemed like sarge said that kids SHOULDN'T express themselves...or something like that. Kids absolutely should and can express themselves. Like you said, they aren't perfect, but they're growing and learning.

Hobbies are so important and so valuable to a person’s mental health. As long as you’re still allowing plenty of time for other important tasks and jobs that need to be done, spending a lot of time on a hobby or pasttime that brings you joy can be valuable. And Curtis is actually surprisingly mature for his age. Even though he gets angry and has some childish tantrums like other children, he talks about his emotions in a very mature way and overall deals with them pretty well.
@mynameisreallycool1
@mynameisreallycool1 5 месяцев назад
The mom from the stricter family complains about the kids being spoiled but then spoils her husband by allowing him to have total control over everyone, look a specific way, and have him make her do facials. How is that not also spoiled? Curtis was spoiled, yes, but I find it interesting how children will be called spoiled just for wanting junk food or other normal kid things they like, but adults, specifically adult men, could be twice as demanding and picky about everything and just be called, "tough" for it. If Ginger spoils her kids and Curtis is still more calm, empathetic, and reasonable than "Sarge", then I can't imagine how spoiled "Sarge" was as a child and how lenient his parents were if he turned out this way. Also, kind of ironic how a lady who lets her husband demand facials and bubble baths from her is calling the other dad a "wuss".
@typeouetco1626

Curtis is more prone to develop violent outbursts when he can't get what he wants at a later age. Yeah, Curtis seems like a pretty chill kid but he's gonna be a teenager and then an adult. is it still gonna be cute when he demands chicken nuggets or talks back to his parents when he's like 16. Curtis is a very unique expressive child who has the potential to do cool things later in life but it's most likely not gonna happen if he keeps eating unhealthy food and not learning the value of no. He shouldn't be growing up in an environment where he's able to do whatever he wants to do and get whatever he wants. If that mentality is not challenged. It's gonna remain even to adulthood. All 4 of us kids could read before we started school just from our mom reading stiry books to us. Kids love to ride bikes, run and play. They don't need boot camp. They do need a healthy diet, including plenty of protein. This veg only diet's sure not adequate. My mom was a great cook, and it included mostly very healthy ingredients.

I don't understand how that family can claim they constantly strive for excellence when that little girl can't read or write. Edit: lots of comments saying that it all depends on which teachers or school whether you learn to read at 5 or 6 years old. Fine, fair enough, but their family motto is that they strive for excellence. Excellence would be learning to read as soon as reasonably possible.

Yeah, truth. It's harder to absorb supplements. I hope they at least weren't taking them on an empty stomach. Also, the "your cells are clogged and need a detox" thing strikes me as nonsense. Probably what made him sick was that his microbiota (the bacteria colonizing his gut) got stressed out by the sudden dietary change and told his stomach to get rid of it. I'm under the impression that such sweeping dietary changes should be done over time. I do feel like maybe they gave those two parents "the villain edit," and it did _seem_ like they grew a bit from the experience, though. And credit to the father for listening to the nutritionist, they probably get a lot of info normally through diet fad media, which packages itself as scientific and healthy without necessarily being so, so it's much better to consult a real expert.

The scariest part to me is when Joy says diarrhea is normal. NO IT IS NOT: Please if you're having diarrhea frequently get HELP, having it frequently is not good for the body. It isn't purging out bad things from your body its purging EVERYTHING it can including a LOT of water which leads to dehydration and death when left untreated for extended periods of time. Eating veggies GOOD! Eating only RAW veggies is BAD and is why her family would be having frequent diarrhea.

I took it as meaning it's normal at FIRST. Bc, let's be honest, if you go from a diet of just greasy fast food and then eat a meal of just vegetables, your stomach won't like it at first. Like for such a huge diet change, I think being sick at first makes sense and that it kind of is purging the bad shit. "Kids should be allowed to express their opinions" is so right. Some people have such an ego they forget that bluntly asking questions and expressing opinions is just how kids not only communicate, but more importantly, LEARN. They aren't always "questioning you" or your authority. They often just want to understand what they are hearing, as they hold a conflicting idea that confuses them and they feel the need to voice it. Their questioning and counterpoints are them looking to you to clear up their confusion, even if they can be very blunt about it. I understand this is a lot of armchair psychology, but I think it's safe to make that judgement considering the family that doesn't allow that kind of thing has a kid that CAN NOT READ.

Let's be real, animal lovers would probably rather all the deer overpopulate and kill themselves than for us to humanely take care of them and keep the population healthy. They just like to gab while not knowing a damn thing about wildlife conservation and management in reality.
