NOTE: subsequent to the release of this video, several viewers chimed in about the distinction between L2 & L3. I had done some hasty research before authoring this video and can confirm the adaptive Cruise Control equates to L1 autonomy in the SAE J3016 standard and Supercruise equates to L2 autonomy in the SAE J3016 standard. I apologize for the confusion.

Excellent demonstration! I haven’t had a chance to use SC and this was a great way to see it in action. I like how clear it is with what’s shown on the screen and the combo of the haptic seat indicators. It’s funny to think that most people driving by have no idea this is out there. Thanks for the great video!

SC is definitely a hidden gem 💎. I’ve talked to people who have had it in at least one of their vehicles and they say “To hell with Apple’s CarPlay, but I won’t buy another car if it doesn’t have SC!” I think that’s a testimony if you’ve never heard one before. Love your videos, thanks so much!

Thank you for all your videos! We own Lyriq coming from a model y and have much the same experience and opinions you shared. I didn't know about the gap adjustment until now, so this was very helpful for our next road trip.

You are so welcome! I too often find unknown features in cars I drive from watching RU-vid videos. In my Volvo XC40 Recharge, I found out about the cargo cover storage spot under the floor. Never knew until I spotted it on RU-vid. Thx for watching and have a good holiday weekend.

Thanks for the info-I learned a few things. The Lyriq is a good looking car. It’s too big for me, but SuperCruise looks like one of the better systems out there. Love the Kyle Connor quote. Typical Kyle!

I have 1st gen SuperCruise on my Bolt EUV, so no lane change and doesn’t allow use on two lane roads. Still, it’s an outstanding system. I find it dramatically reduces my fatigue on long trips. I won’t buy another vehicle without it or a similar system

Fatigue on long trips and also decrease road rage. I find I disengage from behaviors of other drivers on the road when the computer is making the decisions for me and it make for a much more pleasant drive. Thx for watching and have a good holiday weekend.

@@thenetworkarchitectchannel I have had the same experience. Driving psychology is interesting - we humans seem to perceive the car as a part of us when driving. But I also find it easier to shrug off aggressive drivers when using partial automation

Good demonstration! Having previously owned a Tesla Model 3, and now own a Hyundai Ioniq 5, I opine that the latter's HDA 2, GM's Super Cruise, and Ford's Blue Cruise are all much better than FSD -which suffers from a kind of "Tourette Syndrome," with &^%$#@! phantom braking, ping-ponging between lanes, parnoid merging. Our systems *assist* the driver rather expecting the driver to *assist* the vehicle. For example, I am willing to bet that, if you see roadkill ahead on the highway, you can easily still steer around it without disengaging Super Cruise -like I can do with HDA 2. That's a MUCH better approach! There are only three differences between my system and yours. Mine is not entirely "hands free," it won't change lanes unless and until I tell it to, and I can just slightly depress the indicator stalk (rather than fully push it down) to have it move, and then it shuts off the turn signal by itself once it is in the adjacent lane.
@thenetworkarchitectchannel
@thenetworkarchitectchannel Месяц назад
I think the FSD Beta program is a noble goal. In tech though, when you try to boil the ocean, it almost always fails. Thx for watching and taking the time to comment. enjoy your holiday weekend if you are in the states.

With Supercruise, you can temporarily take control while the system is still fully active for situations like roadkill in the road, and the system lets you know when you can manually control the car because the LED on the steering wheel is blue. Supercruise works the same with the gentle tap of the turn signal stalk, and after fully autonomous lane changes are completed the system deactivates the turn signal all on it’s own. If you lock the turn signal in place as you would if you were about to make a turn, the system would work the same in the sense the LED will turn blue and allow you *temporary control* but you will need to disengage the turn signal yourself after you’re done swerving around the obstruction in the road.

Mercedes Benz claims (very loudly) to have the only Level 3 autonomy in the US, stating that being able to take your eyes off the road is what makes it Level 3. Of course, their list of restrictions as to when you're allowed to use Drive Pilot lowers its usefulness to a poorly made joke. I like your technical and methodical approach and would like to hear your thoughts on why GM is also Level 3 yet they did it without the fanfare that accompanied the MB announcement.
@thenetworkarchitectchannel
@thenetworkarchitectchannel Месяц назад
MB’s claim is limited L4 I believe, the 1st to market.
@easternpa2

@@thenetworkarchitectchannel Level 3. Level 4 is Cruise and Waymo with passengers in the back seat but in limited areas.
@thenetworkarchitectchannel
@thenetworkarchitectchannel Месяц назад
@@easternpa2 I believe that is level 5. The MB L4 allows drivers to read a book, in limited situations, mostly around Las Vegas I understand.
@easternpa2
@easternpa2 Месяц назад
@@thenetworkarchitectchannel Level 5 has passengers in the back seat at all times in all locations under all conditions. Cruise and Waymo are geo restricted because they are level 4. They also use remote control rescue drivers for instances when they get stuck. There is no level 5 in the US.
@G-Rated

Supercruise doesn’t need your eyes on the road in order to do what it already is doing today, I think *gm* designed it to where you can only be slightly distracted without the system asking you to pay attention for an added level of safety. *gm’s* Supercruise seems to be prioritizing safety over capability. I think their Ultracruise will be based upon SC but it’ll be a true Level 4 system.

I agree. That is some wickedly cool tech they have with FSD Beta. In GM circles, they are doing the R&D for that level of autonomy with their division Cruise, but it encountered big problems last year and is going through a reset. Enjoy your Holiday travels and the comfort of autonomous driving for your daily commute. Thx 4 watching.

@@thenetworkarchitectchannel every time I’ve used FSD beta it fails or creates a dangerous situation (most often stopping in intersections when its confused), on highway drives it hogs the left lane. Meanwhile highway driving Blue-cruise on our MME is sufficient. I’ll be trying out a Blazer EV next week - so your Super cruise input has been very helpful!
