Making a clean cafe racer LED turn signal setup on my Yamaha XS400 build with these units from Purpose Built Moto. These are a really well designed light that I can use as a run/turn/and brake on this build to keep the rear end very clean and minimal which is the goal! In the rear I made some bushings to weld into the frame for a very tight fit with no visible brackets. Up front I used a P-clamp to mount the signals off of the fork tubes.
Be sure to check out previous episodes of this build if you haven't already!

Sharp looking signals! Great job modifying the fame and fork mounts. I appreciate you thinking of all the guys (like me!) who dont have the funds to get fully tooled up and showing alternate ways of doing things. Thank you.

Yo B.J.~. (True-Moto-Resto). Posted five hours ago. ~ CB 360T - Body Work and Re Paint. Man~~~. ya gotta go and see this guy. What he does. So I bought a (damaged) 600 Bandit on Wed with the seller supporting my enthusiasm for my 1200 Bandit. The guy admitted that "Norman Goodlooking" was not his real name. The bike was not his~ didn't.know anything about it. Yada Yada Yada. Such a crappy story explaining that his very messed up jaw (really bad) was from a "drunk driver." His "bosses bike." I took the "bits and pieces" back and am eating my purchase price. Oh well. I have an addiction. Anyway, I'm selling my 750 Honda (West Virginia) and focusing only on the Bandit 1200. What a life man! Best wishes here. This is a great video. You are an inspiration. Thank you. ~ Steve from New Hampshire. 👍

When setting up a part like this out near the edge of the lathe jaws, you can use a piece of flat stock between the part and the face of the chuck to get the alignment very close. Nice job, very clean look.

@TheWingnut58

@@BrickHouseBuilds you don't really need to "make up" anything special, it's only used as a setup aid. Any piece of flat stock of usable width and depth you have laying around will work great....just use it to position your workpiece, snug the jaws and then remove it before doing the machining.

Looking forward to the wiring video, as I understand that adding led you have to do some additional work. And I'm clueless about wiring led.
@BrickHouseBuilds
@BrickHouseBuilds 6 месяцев назад
If you add LED signals on a vintage bike many times the stock flasher relay won't work. A simple flasher relay meant for LEDs is all you need. Ignore all that ballast resistor stuff
@dvsdev2403
@dvsdev2403 6 месяцев назад
Old flashers used the electrical load to heat up a wire inside, LED’s don’t draw enough power to make it heat up enough, that’s why they flash quickly, pop in a digital flasher and you’re sorted 👍 They work on old bulbs too, so you can run a mixture of bulbs with no concern
@miguelpagansr6128
@miguelpagansr6128 6 месяцев назад
@@BrickHouseBuildsI also heard that Napa auto parts carries an electronic signal flasher, it doesn't whether you're running leds or regular lights it doesn't care and it also works if you have 6 or 12 volts the only thing it sees is a signal to make it work. Something you might want to look into.
@BrickHouseBuilds
@BrickHouseBuilds 6 месяцев назад
@miguelpagansr6128 the O'Reilly/napa/auto zone selection is fine. The EP34 flasher is great and I use it all the time for LEDs

This looks very nice, but how do you register these bikes once they are finished? Afterall you alter the Frame which needs to be registered and idk how you do it, but if I were to cut into a frame of my bike i would just immediately loose the "Operating Permit" for the bike. Especially with not registered/Custom made turn signals and lights etc.
@BrickHouseBuilds
@BrickHouseBuilds 6 месяцев назад
Here in murica this is not an issue. It retains the vin and is relatively light for mods. Simply register it like normal. It has to pass the necessary inspection for functions though.

You build beautiful things and I like to follow you from the Netherlands. I find this adjustment aesthetically pleasing, but less so in terms of safety. The viewing angle of the turn signals is no more than 90 to 100 degrees due to the design of the units and their placement. That's just not safe enough in my opinion. Anyway, I look through European and not American eyes.
@BrickHouseBuilds
@BrickHouseBuilds 5 месяцев назад
90 to 100 degrees seems like a huge viewing range actually. If you are parked behind this bike at a stoplight you can easily see the rear signals. From across an intersection you should also easily see the front signals. I cant see how there will be a problem. Thanks for watching
@MarkKoekenbakker
@MarkKoekenbakker 5 месяцев назад
@@BrickHouseBuilds I think that if I am a little right behind this bike, that I'd like to see if it's going left. Now this light is behind the tire. For the front the same. For my bike I also custumized the lights, but I'd like that others can see my turning lights for at least 180 degrees.
@BrickHouseBuilds
@BrickHouseBuilds 5 месяцев назад
@markg6062 I think if you can't see either of my rear signals from behind me, you need to give more space though. These are very bright and visible lights. Also, to me 180 degrees means you need to see the front signals from behind the bike as well which doesn't make sense. If your original comment suggests that there is only a narrow 90 degree field of view for these signals you are very mistaken. These are legal for on road use in Australia which is more strick than here in the US. Check out the product links and confirm for yourself to see them in action
@MarkKoekenbakker
@MarkKoekenbakker 5 месяцев назад
@@BrickHouseBuilds To see the front signals from behind is too much and not needed. By 180 degrees I mean that the front signals are able to be seen from a full range from left to right. The fact that certain lamps are approved in certain countries does not mean that they are safely installed. You mount turn signals so tightly against pipes that they cannot be seen from the other side. That's just not safe. And I don't mean to attack you with that at all. But to make you aware of the fact that the requirements for road safety in Europe, among others, are simply stricter in this area. To promote rider safety.
