XS400 Build - Making A Custom Gauge Mount!

Yamaha XS400 build continues with making a custom gauge mount for the Acewell multifunction gauge! This unit looked very attractive with its compact size and finished back for a clean look where it will be exposed on the handlebars. In this video I make a custom aluminum bracket to mount it to the bike exactly where I want it and show you how I did it.

Great tip about de-pinning the wires, I have always been cutting them and often ended up doing a bit of unnecessary work because of it, thanks!

Дякую за таке відео !!! Приємно було дивитися за вашої працею, гарний результат вашої роботи, кріплення вийшло міцніше, з більшою жорсткістю, сам працюю механіком, трошки розуміюсь !!! Хай щастить !!! Thanks for this video!!! It was nice to watch your work, the result of your work is good, the fastening turned out to be stronger, with greater rigidity, I work as a mechanic myself, I understand a little !!! Good luck !!!

That’s a great gauge. I was going to use stock gauges, but the single gauge might look a lot cleaner. There’s a lot going on on those stock triple trees. I think going to that gauge is the right thing. Great work, I’m loving this build, and not just because I have an xs400!

Perhaps useful to mention, if you are going to set the mileage on the Acewel odometer, make sure you do not make the mistake of setting it for example to 280.000 miles instead of 28.000. It happened to me when building an XJR1300 and I had to return the odometer to the factory for a reset 🙂

Yet another good job. I have been doing some brush on nickel plating with fantastic results. Almost as good a chrome, super easy, tough a great way to re-plate rusted, worn through or just make a part look great.

That looks really clean and in the worst case that vibrations makes the headlight touch it, a simple rubber pad like the ones they are used at the bottom of appliances should solve it, but looks like they are far enough from each other. Really nice-

Why have I never thought of writing (presume CD pen) on the connectors which wire is which colour! Such a simple and useful idea. Way simpler than a pen and masking tape on the cables. I did expect you to use the drill press for the 2 concave radii.

Hi, you are doing your job very precisely. You use a template, so you don't stress when cutting and drilling. This is a very useful habit, and probably a skill, congratulations! Or maybe take a look at my progress with the new generation Brushless Hybrid Fast - Rotation Motor tests publication on RU-vid, greetings 😀.

I'm so enjoying making my own custom parts for my project. And I bought ready chinese seat and I don't like it it's to wide for the frame and now I have to modify it because it looks rubbish.

Quick advice for youtuber to youtuber - you show too much in teh intro here. Make it spicey in some other way, show the overall bike or the build progress. As here you basically showed the whole thing and im pretty much done watching at 1 minute.
