Cafe Regio's by Isaac Hayes. From the film "Shaft" Produced by Don Davis. 1971, Great smooth track . Sorry for the missed "e" error in the end credits of Isaac's name )-:
Ahh,the early 70's--In music college, playing in my first full-time bands & learning my craft listening to Issac Hayes. If you wanted to gig in those days, proficiency of his music was expected, no excuses. These songs were the practical textbooks for all young players back then. Thanx & R.I.P Issac Hayes
I used to hang out at Cafe' Regios in the late 90's at East Village in Manhattan. Does anyone know if it's still around? Thanks for sharing this Classic Jam....RIP Maestro Issac Hayes!!!
This reminds me of my mom, driving down I-71 going home! Putting the peddle to the medal.....you go mama, I love and miss you so much. Thanks for the memories....and you to Ike!
You know how you buy this big, beautiful classic Album and you have that song that you keep going back to? This is it. I even loved the scene in the movie. Wow, those were the days and Isaac Hayes breaking this huge color-barrier in being the first Black to win an ACADEMY AWARD for best song track!!! Those were my feel good happy days and I remember when my sweet sister Dee and I boarded the bus to go downtown to see this. RIP Sis, I love you and Mr. Hayes you will remain The Man! RIP
It kills me just how good this lead guitar sounds...very Benson, but Toles gives a powerful lead that will always bring a smile to my face and envy as a musician... just great powerful R&B jazz jammin!
The young people of today ARE listening to this, some on vinyl, most on digital, but don't feel sorry for them...they find this great music (like you hunted for great tunes in the 70's)...even when this song came out, no great subscribership for more than 3 months, but people remember and love this song..."the kids of today" I find to be very curious and appreciative about music that came way before their birth date... talk to them. It's impressive what they know....
I was, what...15 when this bit. I fell in.love with rhe jazz influenced orchestral r&b spund. Then I heRd Barry White, & it was a different world for me.
A very good friend, that has long been gone, did a very good [excellent ] job on this and many other classic jazz tunes . You are missed Bryce Robertson!
This song was first used in "Shaft", but it was later used in the movie "3 Giant Men" (aka '3 Dev Adam') the worst Turkish movie ever made that featured Captain America and Spider-Man, and it was used during a strip club scene when this song was played.
I used to hang out at this Club in East Village in Manhattan. A lot of memorabilia of the Shaft movie adorns the walls throughout the Cafe' Does anyone know if it's still there?
i'm curious to know, as to where you bought this stereo 45 from?..... as when this cut was released here in the states, it wasn't on the "stax" record lable, [being released on "enterprise", instead] and then, it wasn't even in stereo.... curiouser, and curiouser........
Hi I have owned this record in my collection for some forty years now. I bought another former DJ's record collection and added it to mine back then when he gave up, it came with some 2,500 or so other records I got off him, more of it's origins before me I cannot tell you sorry.
syndicate1 In the UK there were no Enterprise or Volt labels, everything from the Stax stable was actually issued on Stax. I am sure that was the same for many other countries. I have had this 45 since it was first issued in the UK, it was the flip side of Shaft and issued on yellow Stax
+popularside percy That's with all the record companies back in the day. Warner Brothers had the disclamier back in the day which said Warner Bros. Records for the U.S. and WEA for the world outside the US.
@@stevenhobin I'm from the US but my dad bought the UK issue of this single. However his pressing featured the full length versions of each side. So this is the first time I'm hearing the single edit of this side.
The Hayes family is related to me...Don't know if Issac is in the Hayes clan that my Dad told me were our relatives...But, hey it's all good...Hope he is though :)
Dude you werent the sneeky dude who put the record on without the midle bit ok i have done that wen i was playing the song ok ps nice turntable those are expensive i could never buy onei don't have the cash but i just have a normal vinyl player well thats put me out of my misery wow this ps is long so i am gonna hear it again -Next doors shaft
@iguy102 hello once again, and thank you for your kind and informative replies: I really do appreciate them..... I think that we have been getting the royal rip off, even back at that time?: many of the 45 releases that all you guys were getting were the creme de la creme of 45 releases, we got the creme de la creme of CRAP......BUT!:THAT'S AMERICA FOR YOU: WHAT CAN I SAY?..... but do you have any idea, where I could find one?....
i'd love to know where you got this 45 r.p.m. record of 'cafe regio' by isaac hayes, because: * at the time, {when the movie, "shaft" was popular} it was on the label of "enterprise', not stax records * it has to be a rare, & collectable label, seeing that stax, is no longer operating, nor is the label of enterprise, & when it was released, {here in the u.s.a.} it wasn't even in stereo, like the copy that you have... But I guess you won't tell me.. oh well.... -Jeffrey
@saron380 I agree I am glad you are of your generation who is trying to expand their musical tastes..As for taste in music of today...Too much derogatory language that reflects on my culture negatively..Sorry son, that's bad taste to me...Anyone can grab a mike and curse and talk about what woman you doin' It takes SKILL to play what I grew up listening to..
that's really a load of crap lol. no one's making anyone listen to top 40 radio. there's a vast history of music to explore. with the internet and spotify, youtube, etc, you can discover great music both new and old. ok top 40 was better back then that is for sure...but people are just too damn lazy to explore. have a great summer..
