What do you think of the decision to not have her on the team?
@wingman416

I believe this is more of the WWEBA getting people riled up. Their will be an "injury" to one of the previously selected players and she will get placed on the team. Tada, magic! It might just be 2 injuries and we will get Angel on there, too! Watch out, cat fight....MEOW!

I don't see how some one that has been playing Pro ball for under a month - irrespective of their numbers could play at all. Just making the transition from college to the pros should be enough to disqualify her for some time. I tried to find definitive qualification rules but couldn't. IMHO, had she gone pro last year I would also be on the why isn't she there chorus. As it stands the proof is still in process. Clean qualifications are sure to come.

Disrespect the game because of popularity? Thought the "game"s biggest problem all these years had been a lack of popularity. A comet of a player comes along and the decision is " nah, we don't care about popularity, we'd rather take a 42 year old and an injured player who hasn't been on court all year." Can see why women's basketball has struggled commercially for so long. They don't have any regard for what the fans want and act arbitrarily to the point of self-sabotage. For instance,I keep hearing " it's a very physical league". Meaning they effectively encourage the players to foul indiscriminately and the officials to blow in a haphazard, inconsistent way. Diminishes the product and makes it look scrappy and chaotic. Not entertaining at all.
@fr57ujf
@fr57ujf Месяц назад
She's a rookie but her performance should have earned her a spot on the team. It was also the right business decision because her presence would have increased viewership. But the WNBA is not a financially self-sustaining enterprise. When you are subsidized, your revenue is guaranteed regardless of performance. This reduces the rigor that normally determines business decisions and allows more room for them to be influenced by pettiness and jealousy. She was omitted so as not to antagonize other players. It is a sad commentary about women's basketball in the US.

@fr57ujf Месяц назад
I disagree with subsidizing the WNBA, but I don't disagree with helping the poor. Blaming the poor for their poverty is the favorite trick of the wealthy. The reason we have a problem with poverty is that the rich pay Congress to pass bills that reduce their taxes. It's been happening for over 50 years. It is the main reason so many people are dissatisfied with the government. It isn't a government of the people, by the people, and for the people anymore. It is an oligarchy that serves the interests of the rich at the expense of everyone else. If we are going to solve our political problems we must make the economics work for everyone.

Women's basketball now has a huge opportunity to market their league, increase revenue, and begin to earn their own living instead of being subsidized by the NBA and other interests. Instead of seizing the opportunity, women's basketball going to squander it through pettiness and bigotry. Caitlin Clark needs to keep playing her game, make her money, and get out early. Let the league go where it is going to go. As a Tennessean, I learned to respect the game when Pat Summitt was coaching the Lady Vols. Few have done as much for the game as she did. It is a shame that the game is being tarnished by the actions of the WNBA players and coaches, along with the USA Olympic selection committee.

If Clark is able to hit a long range 3 pointer in the Olympics, the crowd is going to go nuts. There will be clips of it all Olympics long. And everyone will know who she is, and will also be intrigued about the other players. But WNBA cant see past the gold medal. The only point I could see is maybe the committee feels their jobs would be on the line if they don't win gold or even a medal. Maybe pressure is coming from elsewhere.

Claiming that viewership and merchandizing dollars have nothing to do with putting together the Olympic team is such a blatant lie. Just like anything else, money is a huge motivating factor. Snubbing CC is already having a backlash effect, and people will now continue to not give a shit about the women's Olympic basketball team. If anything, many people will root for them to lose. These women are so petty that they are willing to shoot their golden goose because she gets more attention than they do.
