This is the only band in the world that could record an entire album in one take with no post production and still sound frigging amazing. I LOVE CAKE.
My aunts sometimes refer to themselves as “the Karens”, mostly when aunt Kitty initiates an impromptu bic lighter karaoke session. Im’ma just call you when I can ( most likely and not often as i could )Love ya”ll
I used to play a lot of the auxillary percussion parts in band from 5th to senior year and for the life of me I couldn't remember the name of that. I do remember the flexatone, though. I'm getting old. :( Glory days and all that.
This song came out 20 years ago this year and it's still incredibly catchy. The thing about Cake is that a LOT of their earlier music was written in a similar fashion, which is why this was also a massive hit when it first came out in 2001.
I love music like this! What a great sound! It has the Vibraslap!!! I love the Vibraslap. Weird Al uses it in some of his songs. I love the trumpet and the bass parts too. John McCrea's style is ballsy. He kinda raps, kinda sings, just does his own thing. It's fantastic!
imagine that! saw them live in 2004 at a festival and they were the only band with a good engineer apparently, because i don't even remember who else was there
He's still incredibly talented. He writes most of the songs, all of which are INCREDIBLE, both from a compositional standpoint and a lyrical one. As for his voice, it's an acquired taste, and this isn't a great representation of how good he really is. He's a bass, and yet in "Wheels," he sings an A4, which is certainly a tenor note. (Though no Mercury-esque F5's out of this one.) His voice isn't so much beautiful or pleasing as it is entertaining and interesting.
Great job, sounds great live as well as album version 😀so many people everywhere have loved this song since I was in highschool 2004-2007 & it's Still awesome. Such classic unique unapologetic music for the sake of making music. They don't make it this good now I swear!!
this is so awesome! the bass, the guitar, the rolling cobra sounds, the vocals.. the drummer.. the back vocals. and no smiles! aahh./ and the trumpet guy! I love this song and how they play!! Thank you guys! I keep returning to your music since I heard you in Phoenix in 2000
They're just cool, no way around it. Always my easy listening because mostly I listen to nu-metal, alt/prog and post grunge. Their excellence is undeniable.
Great song,Tight band and I want one too!!! Check out the Emma Peel tribute put to this song. That’s why I’m here, she was the Queen of thorns but mainly Emma Peel : )
I am a retired mechanical engineer, so I think that all good music stopped in the 1960's, right? WRONG. Good music is still being created, and here is such an example, thus I have 'favourited' (that's a new word for y'all) it on Spotify. If you like this, might I suggest you take a listen to Toast by Streetband.
2:25 "With fingernails that shine like joohh. So, and he wants a girl withthu buthers fath" Killer performance, but I couldn't keep it together right there. These guys are great xD
"Fingernails that shine like justice". Never heard of glossy nails as a metaphor for justice before, but it's a great lyric. Kind of like saying her lipstick radiates truth.
Holy. This is soo incredibly good and the groove (singer, Drums, beginning, else) is just freakin me out. My sister and I used to Listen to this as Kids. This Band influenced me a lot. My sister and I dont get along too well right now. It's been a while. Please cake! Come to germany or at least europe soon. And I will take my sister to the concert for us to be friends again ❤ Otherwise i need to take her to ed sheeran if you dont come. your choice
My wife doesn't get Cake, doesn't appreciate their cool quirkiness, and just can't stand them. Seeing as how she's your typical basic "Pour Some Sugar On Me" processed cheese consumer, that's a huge "W" in the Cake column.
