This is possibly the finest female acting ever to grace the t v.Phenominal piece of acting. Its not easy to act drunk unless you are drunk in such a convincing way but she really nails it every time.Another great character to add to the list of Deadwood greats.
Sincerely impressed with the work of Robin Weigert in this role of Calamity Jane. She was pure awesomeness and her command of the vulgarities was a joy to watch. Great performance! Bravo Robin.
+Damien John Bravo, you're 200% right! She should have won 3 Emmy and a lot more for this character. I hope she'll have an important part in the movie!
+Alan Aardvarck I respect your opinion but come on, you know how much talent you need to be able to portray such a character ? ? A LOT. Even if you don't like the character nobody can deny she did a terrific job at playing this complexe character and that, sir, takes à lot of acting skills and talent.
Robin Weigart was absolutely GENIUS as "Jane" ; she should have won all kinds of Emmys. Too bad there is not a collection of her moments from all 3 seasons.
@gjmncc They're both awesome and while Robin was consistently better than Drea on their shows, Drea won for season 5 of the Sopranos. Some of the best acting I've ever seen. It would have taken an act of god to beat her, which is insane considering Robin as Jane is one of the best female performances ever. I love them both.
She was such a kind character, warm with her friends charlie utter and wild bill, the doc, and taking care of the orphan as well as the dying man. It's sad that she wasn't able to express her love for wild bill. How she gave in to despair and starting indulging her insobriety, she deserved a better life.
PrezPendejo It's sorta one of Dourif's trademarks, there seems to be a moment in just about every single major performance he gives where his character sheds a stoic, solitary tear.
I was a huge fan of this series and never missed an episode. I was especially taken with the excellent acting of Robin Weigert's portrayal of Calamity Jane. She has a web site and I thought I would write her a note expressing my admiration of her talent. I was pleasantly surprised to receive a reply from her and she was extremely gracious in her response. Very disappointed when this excellent series was cancelled prematurely.
Robin sent me an autograph I requested over a particularly terrific vulgar line she uttered (one of numerous!) Hard to realilze she has a top-notch education!
I remember seeing her in another series as a lawyer. I couldn't believe it was the same person. Brilliant acting. So many great characters in Deadwood.
@@jayroberts5165 A credit to her acting skill and talent. I have seen her in other roles such as on ‘Law & Order’ and she is nothing like the crude and vulgar Calamity Jane.
It wasn't until after some steaming bucket of swine vomit pulled the plug on Deadwood that I realized Robin Weigart also portrayed the soft spoken, smoking hot lawyer on The Sons of Anarchy. Her role as Calamity Jane was absolutely the most brilliant performance by an actor I've ever had the pleasure of watching.
"If I had that mug on me, I believe I'd cut down on gettin told how butt-fuckin' ugly I was by not staring' at fuckin' strangers" Lmao that line always gets me
Occasionally, I just miss this character and have to come see her in this video. There's no one else like her. She doesn't appeal to all, but to those of us to whom she does appeal, she delights. Unforgettable, she is.
Something you can say for just about every actor on Deadwood: this was their greatest role and they absolutely crushed it. For Robin Weigart as Calamity Jane, you can say it twice.
Robin Weigert is Amazing as Calamity Jane it's a disgrace she didn't Win an Emmy for her role. But that's hollywood for you never giving awards to the most deserving.
Yeah, there are about 5-6 former Deadwood people who have been on SoA. But you can recognize them when you see them. This actress I didn't recognize as the lawyer until somebody pointed it out to me; it's a testament to how much she transformed herself into the Calamity Jane role.
Damnit I love this character. A few years ago, I had never heard of the show Deadwood. I was at work, a stranger stopped me, asked me if I knew of Calamity Jane..I didn't. They said I look just like her! So I did a search and found the show..omg I love it! Especially the scene..where Jane demands whisky!!! whiskey damnit!! xox
Incredible acting by Robin Weigert!!!!!! She stole EVERY scene she was in. This series is the finest I have ever seen , and the actors in the primary rolls are ALL great.
I forget which season but Jane stands up, looks behind to where she was sitting and said, 'I must have sat in a puddle of piss". Funniest line I ever heard.
Actress playing Calamity Jane is beyond in a class of what any actor ever pulled off in my opinion. Hats an scalps off to that gem. Beyond academy awards
You gotta love Robin's casting as Calamity Jane. She was just fabulous doing this part. I love her. Just love the part she plays. You got the one where some Norweigan fella mistakes her for a guy with Charlie and Seth. That was the best just cracked me up. I will watch future... and see.
I met Robin Weigert (Calamity Jane) in 2011 after the completion of The Sessions. She plays Susan Fernbach, Mark O'Brien's girlfriend. I told her every episode of Deadwood she wasn't in were good, but the episodes she was in were my favorites. She is truly an amazing actress and Deadwood was one of my very favorite HBO Series!!
viljamtheninja President of HBO recently announced the actors are onboard & the very last step is agreeing to a reasonable budget. With the following the show's steadily acquired since it's cancellation he'd be a fool not to give Milch what he needs to do the movie proper. Hell, apparently most of the town's exterior set still stands, all the better to keep costs down. A terrible shame about Powers Boothe having recently passed though, won't quite be the same without him.
@BladeArtist 205 I believe that is what is referred to as an opinion, not a statement of fact. My opinion is that although it did not reach the giddy heights of the series, it was still very good. Especially given the ages and availability of all concerned.
I haven't seen the complete Doris Day film; but somehow, I just bet that fair, feminine Jane wasn't as flatulent as Deadwood's version?! Al Swearengen's my "secret love"; well, I didn't keep it a secret very long!
She is one of my favorite TV characters ever. I love Robin's Calamity Jane! And then to see her as a modern day lawyer on Sons of Anarchy....but i really wanted her to get to play with Dayton Callie again. Sadly they didnt have much interaction. But I'll bet they were thrilled to see each other behind tge scenes. Love them together on Deadwood.
Robin Weigert is awesome! You can see her on Sons of Anarchy as she occasionally makes an appearance as the club's attorney. She's a very polished, very intelligent and attractive young lady in this role, just emphasizes the diversity of Robin as an actress.
Robin was the best, this was my favorite show of all time I am sooooo looking forward to more-thank you David Milch! The only thing missing was Caine"walk-in the earth".I have a strong feeling that I might've been around them parts in another lifetime, and got hung
Row, row, row your boat gently down the stream Merrily, merrily... GODDAMMIT!!! If Jane is singing to a little girl you're gonna join in like it or not.
+Jonathan Turbide In real life Jane married Clinton Burke & Dora who Joanie is based on Married Joseph DuFran so there most likely not going to end up together if there stay with the truth
+JayDee284 Thanks for sharing, I'll try to read more about this. However the real Dora wasn't openly gay like Joanie is, right? So that might be where the real Dora and the character are different.
Too bad you couldn't go into seasons 2 and 3..."This here is the epithet of a Union General!"...."Oh yeah?...Well this is the ass of a drunken shit-bird"
