Me and my wife are thinking about moving to CA soon, would 220 to 250k before taxes between us both be enough to live there with the cost of life ?

Yes, that is definitely enough to live comfortably. Of course it depends where in CA how much your cost of living will be. Where are you considering?

I know that what I'm about to say will upset some people, but I always cringe a little bit when people say that California is "too expensive". It isn't and anyone saying that it is needs to get their personal finances in order. Trust me when I say this because I'm not what you may refer to as "loaded", but I still have a roof over my head, food to eat, and among other things, money left over for extracurricular activities (or to save). If I can do it, so can you, And, by the way, maybe instead of wasting gas by driving your car a few blocks down the street, you can try getting off your lazy ass and walking. Or you can ride a bicycle. That helps gas prices go down and is more commonly referred to as "the basic principles of supply and demand". Also, if you MUST drive a motor vehicle to your place of employment, try waking up earlier, so you can avoid the morning traffic. You'll probably have enough time to hit the gym too, so there's that. Just make sure to bring fresh clothes with you because your coworkers don't want to smell your musty ass. Follow these simple bits of advice and your gas gauge, along with your body and personal finances, will thank you. Oh... And stop eating out so much. Eating out has ALWAYS been expensive and it's only getting worse. Anyway, I hope you learned something today. ;)

CA taxes are horrendous when taken in their totality. Number 1 or 2 in the nation. No way to spin it any other way.

I'm not so sure about property taxes... my property taxes are probably more than double than someone with twice the sq. footage if they bought 20+ years ago.
