California Post Fire burns more than 14,000 acres, prompts hundreds to evacuate

Firefighters are trying to contain the massive, wind-fueled Post Wildfire about 60 miles northwest of Los Angeles that's been burning since Saturday. It's already the second California fire this year to exceed 14,000 acres with the season just underway. CBS News correspondent Carter Evans has more.

We can service fire breaks but we don't because environmentalists freak out(Los Padres is Dodo bird domain). Mitigation of riparian chaparral w/ prescribed burns is a non-starter. It's equivalent to trying to burn one gas soaked cotton ball amongst millions, it all goes. June/July has Always been our early fire season. Welcome to N.Ventura Co. y'all.

@@teri03 Basques used to graze sheep to mitigate here in Ventura Co. back when I was a tadpole. However only bordering populated areas. They never grazed within the Los Padres. Once they grazed the land, fires still ripped through, burning the leaf ear cactus which is flammable AF and germinated by...you guessed it, wildfire! I live in a wildfire zone, it's reality here.

It is such a double edged sword....lots of rain helps drought at the same time growing vegetation which dries in hot season creating fuel. With winds such as they are...very difficult to fight ..😢

We used to have grazing goats on all brush areas and never had this problem coincidentally.

Any homes that burn now won't be back up and the families that lost them will have no choice but to move out without any insurance money, unless they are somehow lucky to still have coverage. If Newsom wasn't hungry enough to chase insurance companies from the state

Ponder this far fetched theory... A vehicle gets a flat, then driven on to get to the TIRE SHOP behind Mc Donald's. The very hot wheel could ignite grime/grease, the disintegrating tire could rupture the brake line etc. Brake fluid is quite flammable at high temp. Did the gov't pay them to not have AAA? Being stranded on the shoulder of the Grapevine next to the truck lane is not a fun place to be, ever.
