On the core board, yes. In the OE meta though, your gain food actions are generating more food, many more bird powers share food, and nectar is there to make your life easier on top of everything. The cherry on top (nectar on top) is that you start with one nectar.
@@Wingsplain true but there are just many better birds that do the same thing for lower food costs, though admittedly not as many in the forest. while i agree a brown power that gives access to a resource not associated with it's habitat is very powerful the low 3 points, the 3 food cost and restriction of lay egg on this bird only (non flexible) makes this a much lower pick bird for me most of the time
@@larrychatfield If you have access to something like chipping sparrow at the same time as the quail, yeah, why pick the quail? But there are 356 cards in the OE deck and only 10 brown powers lay eggs in the forest. You're going to have games where the Quail is your only forest egg-laying option.
@@Wingsplain agreed, but that still doesn't make the food cost "not prohibitive" is my major point here. especially early on you'd have to use all your food to play this bird in the forest even if you only keep 1-2 other cards in your opening hand
@@larrychatfield Looks like we are going to have to disagree. Food is so plentiful that three food-cost birds are a lot easier to play on the OE board.
