In this episode we rebuild this Brembo 4 piston caliper that's common on GM cars. This caliper is from my Cadillac CTS but is also found on the ATS, CT6, Corvette, and Camaro. We replace the dust boots because they were melted and the piston seals because we should!
Parts used in this video:
Brembo Seal Kit for Cadillac CTS VSport: www.rockauto.com/en/moreinfo....
GM Part number is: 1792256
Caliper Bracket Bolts:
I ordered from O'Reilly but they were incorrect, the correct ones are listed under 2016 Camaro SS. They are the H830 part: www.oreillyauto.com/detail/c/...
Same bolt from Rock Auto: www.rockauto.com/en/moreinfo....
Vacuum Caps: amzn.to/3cFa500
Caliper Hanging Hooks: amzn.to/39xU1Lt
Motive Power Brake Bleeder: amzn.to/30zoIMI
DeWalt Inflator (awesome!): amzn.to/3c4gCG2

I have zero intention to ever do this myself on my CTS but your videos are always informative and well produced, so it was worth a watch and a like. Great job Danial.

Just did my CTS brakes last weekend. First time doing Bembos, and your video helped a lot.

Nice work. I did this a couple years ago to my ATS. I struggled so hard to get all four pistons out at once. Def a good tip to just replace what comes out easily and clamp them in to get the remaining out.

I tried hawk but found performance friction worked better for me at the track with less fade and seem to be more grippy when heated, but yes, my wheels are black after only a week of daily driving. Goes with the territory.

Thanks for sharing, very well presented and informative. I’m just a little curious when it comes to bleeding, as I thought it would be better to bleed the outer side first? I only think that because it’s further away from the reservoir, but always happy to learn.

There are many discussions about this and I think you can’t go wrong either way. However, for my Porsche the manual does actually state to bleed outer first. I think that’s the way to go.

@@JetFuelOnly thanks, yes I think either way could work

Think about it this way, when you do a fluid flush you start with the furthest caliper from the reservoir. Well, its the same with bleeders you do the furthest first. So outter, than inner

nice video. looks like the fluid needed to be flushed anyways too.

Yes definitely! I had RBF600 in there and didn't realize it's been 2 years. That's too long for that fluid.

Hey Daniel, are the stock rotors turntable? Of course if they’re within spec… your thoughts/experience on the topic. I replaced the stock rotors and pads last year with a kit from power stop but they aren’t, imo, as good. 2015 CTS VSport. 80k Trifecta tune… stock exhaust, intercoolers bleed… dragy certificated ..12.61 @ 114.65 on street tires on some back country road @ > 1k elevation.

Hey I got a brand new set of macan 4 piston brembos. And I'm going to powder coat them because they say Porsche and they going on a golf r and we'll the seals and pistons came right out. But man those dust seals are crazy they don't want to come off?? Like they are glued in?? They just pop out? They look identical to the ones you have??
@JetFuelOnly
@JetFuelOnly Год назад
On some of these there’s a small pick hole to pull them with. Mine didn’t have them but they did pop out. I say pull harder! They should be replaced anyway.

Do you know if the bleeder valve and the recessed bolt can be switched on the CTSV brembo 4 piston calipers? I believe the connecting pipe is internal on these models so i dont know how it would effect it. Anyone know?
@JetFuelOnly
@JetFuelOnly Год назад
I’m not sure about that one. But they are brembo brakes so there is bound to be some good universal info out there

Im trying to replace the 4 piston brembo seals on my 2014 camaro ss but the seals will not come out

The seals or dust boots? I don’t see any reason the seals won’t come out with a pick. Can you elaborate more? Can you lift them at all?

You had me cringing a little bit with your finger dangling inside the caliper when you were blowing out the pistons :). I am trying to figure out if you are separating the caliper halves, do the pistons still need to be blown out first.
@JetFuelOnly
@JetFuelOnly Год назад
Hmm. If you separate the halves not sure you will have access to the backs of the pistons and you no longer have a sealed caliper right? Never taken one apart

Can bad seals and dust boots Cause a squeal ?
@JetFuelOnly
@JetFuelOnly 9 месяцев назад
Pretty much no on that question. Almost all squeal is from brake pad compound, worn pads, dirty brakes, or poorly lubricated pad contact points.
