The 1994 Mouse Records release White Line Complete: Featuring Jimmy McCulloch (Little Wing) has been rebranded as Call My Name: White Line featuring Jimmy McCulloch.
An atmospheric album featuring an abundance of that trademark Jimmy McCulloch guitar work, Call My Name: White Line featuring Jimmy McCulloch is now available on digital platforms. It is being released through the German label Choice Of Music.
The cover has also been given a fresh look with a new design by Paul Salley. Salley is the author of the upcoming biography on Jimmy McCulloch entitled Little Wing: The Jimmy McCulloch Story.
The twelve track album consists of the original 1976 Call My Name/Too Many Milessingle along with ten other original tracks that White Line had recorded during their brief time together, including a “live tv” version of Call My Name which was recorded at Nick Lowe’s studio.
Throughout the duration of Paul McCartney’s monumental world tour in 1975/1976 with Wings, lead guitarist Jimmy McCulloch would often get together and jam with his brother Jack, a drummer, and keyboardist/bass player Dave Clarke of the Noel Redding Band (Not the Fiver).
After discovering that they genuinely enjoyed playing together, the trio decided to form a band and called themselves White Line. Jimmy squashed the inevitable speculation that White Line signaled an end to his tenure in Wings, strongly stating that “There is a lot of freedom within Wings itself. Everyone is working on their own projects, as well as the band's...the only way I’m gonna leave Wings is if they break up or I get the sack.”
Without the confines of a recording contract the group had total freedom to do things their way. Clarke recalled that White Line “was song and personality driven; I had a bunch of songs I'd written that Jack and Jimmy played on when I first recorded them, and when I played them Call My Name, we all decided that we should go and record it as a single release. Because of Jimmy's position in Wings, EMI offered to release it and Jim decided he'd like to record Too Many Miles as the other side. We played what we wanted how we wanted and since most of the tracks were never intended for release there was complete freedom.”
Call My Name and Too Many Miles (co-written by Jimmy and Colin Allen) was released in November 1976 to rave reviews and considerable radio airplay. White Line promoted the single by appearing on SuperSonic and Twiggy’s Jukebox show, performing Call My Name. The band also appeared on Radio Luxembourg with D.J. Tony “Royal Ruler” Prince and played a few spontaneous gigs around London.
The times that White Line spent together were lighthearted and enjoyable. A trio of friends who created pleasurable music. Clarke: “We had a lot of fun playing together, but sadly it was a very short period of time and we never really knew how far it could have gone. There was so little, it's all precious.”
