XM177E1 “commando” is the actual name of the gun. Used in late stages of the Vietnam war and not sure if it ever was in another war.

A number of them were used during the Gulf War as the M4 was not yet adopted and the 733 model was restricted to use in Special Forces like Delta Force.

The Colt Commando is an early Cold War era compact assault rifle of US origin. In the mid 1960's Colt had developed the short barrel M16 SMG as part of its family of rifles centered around the M16A1. The Commando is a further development of the M16 SMG in order to make it simpler to produce and more reliable. The Commando is best known under the XM177 and GAU-5 designations used by the US Army and US Air Force respectively. The Colt Commando or XM177 pattern rifles were in production from 1966 to 1970. CAR15 pattern rifles entered into service in the mid 1970s and are still in service to this day. The infamous CAR stock you mentioned was most definitely around for the end of the Vietnam war and well through the Cold War. Cloners go nuts over real deal aluminum car stocks.

I remember seeing this gun with some of the GI Joe action figures I used to have in the early 2000’s. The barrel, front post, and rounded hand guard are unmistakable, but it also had a short foregrip with a telescopic attachment that you’d typically see on a sniper rifle.

Fun Fact: The Cold War iteration of the Commando addresses the gasblock issue.... By sawing the front sight off..... If you pay attention to the model, you can see the saw markings and the bare metal that contrasts with the darker exterior of the gas block.

If you the forward assist to the m16a1 tear drop forward assist you can use that to get the sling further down like the game and it's still functional and you can still use the forward assist and bolt release without issue I have a historic version of the commando with a carry handle

In the game it didnt have pic rail, it had a flat top with the flip up sight mounted. I built out something similar but instead of leavin the rail on the reciever exsposed, i took a detachable carry handle and chopped just the handle portion. I ground it flat in the fron and chopped it right infront of the sight and left the whole base. Then rattle canned the gun tiger stripe just because lol

@@ScoutTrooperActual lol yeah... I built a few of em and was never really happy with it because of the tism 🤣 but that got me close. Took about 20 minutes with a dremmel, got it pretty good. I've had a fixed carry handle xm177 build I did with a 14.5 pin and weld but I could never bring myself to chop a handle like that

@@andrews_lego_tanks_and_more I went with a 10.5 inch barrel because I like that length more but in the game it seems to be closer to an 11 inch barrel! They are honestly really fun to shoot if you do end up making one! Thanks for checking out the vid!

Completely forgot that the rear sight from the game was a Troy facing backwards. Funny too considering that I only use Troy’s for my buis whether as flip ups or 45s. Though I do think that there were 2 position collapsible stocks in the late 70s- early 80s, colt 653s had them. Since it’s a PSA, you could just dremel the FSP off leaving the gas block in. It was the only way low pro gas blocks were back in the day. That rudimentary way was paired with the weird cylindrical handguards from way back when too

Black ops is the only series I give a pass for anachronistic attachments/weapons. The operators are supposed to be running some bleeding edge/secret experimental kit, so it's like "maybe these did exist outside of the official manufacturer timeframe" and the black ops crews were field testing them.

That's pretty sweet. The commando was one of my favorites in BO1 and kinda helped prompt me to clone a GAU-5/A/A (a close relative of the commando). During my research for the project, it was interesting realizing just how inaccurate the in game commando was (shocking I know), compared to its real life counter part (e.g. a flip-up rear sight vs a carry handle). I'm pretty happy with how the clone turned out but, now having watched this video, I kinda wanna clone this rifle!

@@ScoutTrooperActual you can find them on auctionette it’s a Swedish online auction house and if you subscribe for notifications on aimpoint or red dots you can see them often. Usually they sell for under $100. Only issue is that the optic sits so low on the gun. You would need a low profile gas block.

The first carbine attempt was actually the Colt 605 Dissipator :D It's a M16 with the barrel chopped at the gasblock like an AK105 it worked horribly because they didn't modify the gas system at all and basically left it with Zero Dwell time There are modern reproductions that actually work and faux ones that use a carbine length gas system

Treyarch should’ve used a XM177E2 with the carry handle chopped off and a weaver rail bolted on the top with the “Troy” sight. Also, for optics, the gas block sight is chopped, but left the base for the gas system.

Love the gun, weird choice to make Ewoks the bad guys when it should of been the Ewok's smoking the imperials in my opinion ;). Find it odd people's love affair with wanting to be imperial sympathetic loving so badly when they are explicitly the bad guys in Star Wars if I want to over simplify it.
