Call of Duty Finest Hour Gameplay Walkthrough Part 1 - Eastern Front - Stalingrad 

This was my very first Call of Duty game.

That beginning monologue by the Russian officer is probably the greatest opening sequence of any game, ever.

I have never experienced the intense, dark feeling that finest hour gives off. From the loading screen, to Stalingrad, to North Africa, to Remagen. The whole game, utterly intense, brutal! Closest game that gave me that feeling was World at War. Finest hour really is an underrated masterpiece. Voice acting... just incredible.

I was super young when I played this, like I was still laughing at the word “duty”, I loved the Russian levels I use to run with the other guys in the mass attacks and pretend I was just another soldier in it lol

imagine this game with modern graphics.

Activision should remaster this game to the next gen consoles...

For those who care, the comissar's spiel actually quotes from wartime Soviet poetry by one of the leading media figures of the war - forget his name exactly, something like Ilya Ehrenberg, something to that effect, so the whole "Do not count days, do not count miles... kill the German, this is the cry of your Russian Earth..." all of that is totally something a Comissar would've quoted to nervous troops crossing the Volga. An awesome little detail that really adds to the authenticity. This game is just a hidden gem. The music, the tone, it has a real darkness to it that other CoDs don't. This is not a triumphant game, it's a son of a bitch, it's also incredibly weird and unique in ways. Not my first CoD, but one of my favorites for sure.

9:13 is probably my favorite moment in any COD game. So incredibly epic!

The only fucking Commissar that was actually inspiring in the entire game franchise.

The good ol' days of CoD, when you were fighting Nazis at Stalingrad rather than fighting robots in space or some shit like that.

As a kid I remember thinking at the start of the game “wtf why didn’t they give me a gun!?!” Turns out they gave a shit back then and actually put effort, time and “some” historical accuracy into their games. I’m with all you guys, this needs a remaster.

I sold this game about 10 years ago because I couldn't finish it. I bought it back now and booted up my PS2 to finish it finally.

Sounds of this game are really chaotic like it should be in every war game. Breathtaking music and graphics sums up perfectly how dark and horrible ww2 was. My personal favorite ww2 game.

As I look at this I think that this is what the new CoD games are missing, as sense of grandeur and desperation, the new games have a bigger emphasis on the "this is awesome!" factor.

For 2004 *JUST WOW* The physics of movement with the sights moving based on movement... The whole game itself, it was just amazing !!!!

Everyone one saying this was the best cod or they need to remake it but I'm over here just amazed at how far ahead of it's time this game was. This is absolutely amazing especially for a early 2000s game, it really set the stage for future cods and medal of honor games.

My very first FPS... It is a shame to see what Call of Duty has become. RIP Call of Duty.

This was the first serious war game I ever played. As a kid, I knew nothing about World War 2, so the intro did a great job of setting up who you were, where you were, and what had happened so far. Plus that speech was just awesome. I wasn't used to not having a weapon, so I felt like a fish out of water for half the mission. I still remember the first time I shot a pixeltruppen, just a silhouette in the red glow of that burning refinery. No wonder I came to love history so much.

Man, this brings back memories. This was my first Call of Duty game. This, Big Red One and Call of Duty 3 were always my favorites. I lost interest after that.

This was, in my opinion, far darker and grittier than its PC counterpart and therefore better in my eyes.

No one's probably going to see this, but, why are so many people complaining about the bad graphics. As a kid, everyone thought this was the peak of gaming. Now, I'm not a big graphics person, so I don't care what the game looks like.

This game was half history book half video game. All time classic.

"Do not count days, do not count miles, count only the number of Germans you hav killed" that line is so iconic if I'm not mistaken Reznov says the same thing in WAW and it's a call back to this the most famous battle of stalingrad in video game history.

I’ll never forget getting this game for Christmas as a kid. Even though it took me FOREVER to make any progress, I actually did make it quite far into the story and I surprisingly remember a lot of it. There is a lot memories attached to this game. The sounds, music, and characters all strike me like I just heard them yesterday.

I love this game. One of my favorites on the PS2 and I still replay it to this day. So many memories.

The sound of a Stuka descending down on to you will forever remain ingrained in my head because of this game.

This was an intense level for it’s time. There were no autosaves every 5 minutes and you had to HUNT to find medkits and if you got killed you’d practically start over.

Some of my earliest memories come from this game, more specifically this mission. The music, the sound effects, the voices, man the nostalgia

As a kid, this was definitely the first call of duty campaign I remember playing. I would replay this first Stalingrad mission over and over again cause I loved how it played and that speech at the beginning for not one step back is still goosebumps inducing.

I grew up on a farm as a kid and one time we bought three cows that me, my brother and my cousin each named. I was so obsessed with this game, specifically the Russian campaign, that I named my cow Tanya.

If Cod world at war is considered dark and gritty then this is a horror game

Oh the nostalgia 😢 i remember this was my first cod on the ps2 i was like 10 and im now 23. I also didn’t know any English and did not really pay attention to the intros or understood what the soldiers said and just skipped everything. I came across this video randomly and it is so interesting to now understand whats going on and know some of the battles portrayed here, are inspired by real events.

Grew up playing these as a kid. Along with brothers in arm road to hill 30 and earned in blood. Man they knew how to write good stories and make a good experience and presentation with what they had at the time. These games deserve a remaster or a faithful remake.

first console entry in the COD series! Man this game has a special place in my heart. the atmosphere was darker then COD classic for PC and the story was more interesting with more in depth character development. the actually controls were a bit jank, very sluggish; however, I didn't care. I love this game so much I was willing to play through all of the wonderful jank.

I remember as a kid watching my father play for the first time when the game came out , I remember laughing because of the Commissar giving his speech and almost falling off the boat . As a 9 year old , that's the kind of stuff that would make you laugh without really understanding the context of war , my parents gave me the biggest shit storm and lecture about war and its atrocities . They thought I was laughing about people dying lol

This game is literally why I grew up a history buff. And the things I learned are historical and accurate. Definitely peaked my interests as a kid. Probably what sets my generation apart from the newer ones coming up.

I genuinely miss the days where this game was brand new and the Xbox and Playstation 2 were the height of video game technology.

Man, it makes me cry seeing this cause this was my childhood. Not many will remember the VERY beginning of online clan play on this game, I was a member of the clan, one of the biggest clans on COD 1. PS2 LAN online play was at its infancy, clan battles were too. What a time to be alive. I remember one of the rare hackers on the game, Boss Nasty, one of two german hackers who used to terrorize online lobbies. 2004-2008 on this game was something that i'll cherish for life.

2:47 and 9:12 are the best parts of the first mission, especially the mass attack when the soundtrack kicks in
