@@drsoe08 Silas IS a phoney, you seriously think he killed Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid? That swamp level at the end proves he was hallucinating, most of the story was bull.
When a man spends his whole life hunting for vengeance, for blood, he finds that is all he is. When he finally has his revenge, there is nothing left of the man. That is the point of the vengeance ending.
IMO the revenge ending should be the canon one, Silas is beyond redemption at this point, he already killed a lot of people for finding Bob, and he has nothing to lose, the years of violence made him a cold hearted man, the revenge ending suits to the overall journey of Silas Greaves.
I like more the redemption because despite being beyond ...well....redemption I like to think that Silas could live his last days knowing that atleast after all the regrets and being tired he found the strength to spare Bob, one last sign of humanity and maybe his past self inside him after a life full of remorses because he spent most of it chasing the need to revenge turning him into a cold blooded killer, killing innocents or people who didnt had nothing to do with it, giving Silas a bit of peace . At the end of the day I dont think there is a canon ending, Its up to the player to decide what fits better for him .
This game only makes sense to me with the revenge ending. The guy already has nothing left in his life, no wife, kids, or siblings, so why live the rest of your existence also having the weight of knowing that the guy who ruined you're entire life is out there happily acting like he was never a serial killer. I also absolutely love how quickly Jack changed his mind about Silas after the duel.
Well same could be said the oppesite way, he doesnt have anything, he is a killer now, BUT, he can finnaly for the first time in YEARS become something more than a rabbid animal, he could beacome a normal man once more and overcome his now fully developed murderus instinct, people DO change, wheter it be for the worse or better, and only we decide who we want to be, people around us can only nudge us, but its you who get the final decision
Grey wolf words where echoing in his head for years and he even admits feeling bad for killing the natives and becoming a monster, he decided to not drink the poison
Both endings make sense. As Silas was killing all these years, hunting for Bob, he knew he turned into a monster worse than his brother's killers. In Revenge ending he fully embraces that fact and fulfils his revenge, leaving the saloon emptier than when he walked in. In redemption he finally finds the man he was looking for all these years... but instead of finding a no-good scumbag, he finds a seemingly changed man, and at the end of his journey, he finds peace in himself and to forgive the man who he thought he could never forgive, walking away from the saloon more whole than if he had his revenge. Both endings are great, in my opinion and it's up to you to decide whether you think Silas could find forgiveness in himself and walk away or if he would walk his blood-filled path to the bitter end.
Redemption: You've finally found your nemesis, and as you saw that he redeemed himself, you spared him. You know that killing your nemesis won't bring your brothers back. You walked out to the sunset, not caring what happens next, as you've became a legend to be told among mens. Revenge: You've finally found your nemesis, and you've killed him in a fair duel. Everyone was scared stiff, you are feared by many, as you've gunned down more man than your nemesis ever had. You walked out, having lost everything, and became a man that even legends fear.
It's cool how both endings, in their own way, wrap up Silas' tale so perfectly. You're either recognized as a Legend, a man who despite always having all odds against him, always came out on top. Or you're seen as a Menace, feared by all for your capacity of sending anyone who gets in your way six feet under. Both equally badass in their own ways.😮
I played this entire game through, and having just come out of one of the toughest shootouts in the game ever, add that to the Mexican stand off in the end, in my shooter-game adrenaline I blindly picked the revenge ending. Like any other duel, I focused, I steadied, I fired. Shot Bob right between the eyes like the drunken, deceptive, two-toed snake he was before he even managed to pull out his pistol from the holster entirely. I should have felt satisfied, pumped even, as I felt like this was the ending I wanted. And in a logical sense it was, as I had gone through so much just to get to Bob and I had finally finished the bastard off. But as I watched the whole ending, watched as Silas Greaves left that saloon emptier than when he had left the bodies of his two brothers behind, my adrenaline was just...gone. Like a balloon deflated just as it had reached it's filling point. So I replayed that mission, had to do it twice because I didn't realize the finale wouldn't play if I chose that last mission from the recollection but I suppose it was some game deity's way of telling me that I needed to work twice as hard if I wanted to get the ending I wanted to see. So it was, redemption gave me no duel but it did give me a little sense of pride as Silas finally forgave Bob for the wrong he did him so many years ago, the Grey Wolf's message had finally gotten to him, to not wallow in bitterness and hate. And at last, the satisfaction I had wanted to experience was there in my heart, though it was not the satisfaction I would have gotten if I had chosen this first, it was good enough. 9/10 game. Please play it.
Haha good writing, your conclusion here definitely fits the games style. I'm already on my third playthrough because the game is so short. But therefore it feels far more condensed/cinematic than other shooters and by now the dialogs start to feel pretty classic.
I felt bad for picking the revenge ending but I didn't really want to go through that whole story just to say to the man that killed my brothers, "Oh well your good now lets just let that slide"
It's not even about Bob, although it's nice to see he's changed his ways. SIlas sparing his life is for SIlas. The thing about revenge is that very rarely does it satisfy
tbh he did give you a lot of beer and just 1 spanish coin to pay for all of it and he said he changed ways and working as a sweet old man bartender so thats why i picked redemtion
@@shaunbanducci3883 Not only that, but he also was part of the posse that went up against the Daltons. If that didn't show how he changed in my eyes, I don't know what would have since he armed himself to fight alongside the law and protect rather than against it.
I like to imagine that Silas entered that saloon with full intent to kill Ben/Bob, but after reflecting on his entire journey over booze with some kindly strangers he realizes that it would accomplish nothing and chooses instead to let go of the past and walks out into the sunlight as a new man with a new life, at peace with himself at last. Grey Wolf would be proud.
Would have been a strangely profound theme; how all it took for him to give up his revenge was a nice chat with strangers. If awaking anger and vengeance in someone comes so easy, I guess it makes sense that sometimes it's just as easy to drown out someone's anger, replace it with brief moments of joy, even if it's from something as unassuming as a nice drink with another person
Silas went his entire life living on the edge. The same kind of life Bob lived but got pushed away forcefully. It echoes the main theme that the two of them were just two sides of the same coin. As Silas double down on his revenge, he came to even hallucinate targets. He lived so long with cutthroats and violence it became a second nature to draw the gun, knowing he could get killed for even the smallest mercy. Bob, again, went the other way. He found people who took him in regardless of his past. People who took him at face value and not heavy superstition. At some point, he went from acting to actually believing in a second chance. A facade became reality. But as Silas said, there came a time both had to pay the check.
People are confused as to why redemption is considered the 'good' ending? It's because it shows actual growth as a person. There was something learned over the journey and that's, that anger and revenge don't get anything more than harm. With revenge he just goes on to carry out what everything along his path was telling him was the wrong thing to do. What's left when revenge is done? Usually either more revenge with your head wanted or regret over realizing it wasn't worth as much value as you placed on it. You either build up or you tear down. Ben left his life as Rosco "Bob" Bryant behind him trading for a more peaceful way of things instead. There's not much justice in gunning down someone who's genuinely looking to change.
that's what i really thought about the redemption ending i never chose revenge though thanks for explaining to everybody what the redemption ending actually is.
tineaus unbelievable, so if a mass murderer gets away with it for 30 years and then "changes his ways", he should be forgiven... Sounds like a distopia to me, but if you hate laws, go ahead and change them. Make "redemption" legal.
That's utter bullshit. Murder is murder, even after 30 years, regardless how much the murderer changes during that time. Silas chased Bob the whole time, just to spare him at the very end? He was Bob exactly, who made Silas relentless and violent, he changed his lifestyle for a long time. If Silas wants to destroy this self, he has to kill Bob, because he was the main reason to blaze his guns through the whole West. That's so dull.
OK ik I'm 5 years late but reading some of these comments on why people should choose the "revenge" option and not the redemption option well I get what you all are saying but some of y'all kinda dont make sense using serial killers, rapists etc and what i mean is, rapists has nothing to do with this game and maybe serial killers but not entirely sure, and yea I get it...spending 30 years going after 1 man...key word or number shall I say...1!! Man for something he did 30 years ago...dont you think after 30 years you would eventually find forgiveness for that one person as you may never find them? Well I guess not...but I'd choose the redemption ending only because I would give that 1 person on more chance to finally change...but if he messes up...then yea id see why you would want revenge but that's just me
@@aidriankingDSG I think if he wanted to go "redemption" way, he should stop killing and headhunting years ago. In 1910 he was already wreck of a man, both mentally and physically. Decision doesn't matter at that point. Imo "redemption" ending doesn't fit his psyche when he killed countless people (also counting Bob's partners) up until months ago. "Revenge" ending is actually climatic and 'terrifying' on it's own. And no, by this point he has nothing to lose. He already lost his whole life, looking for killers of his brothers.
Revenge is my favorite, I tend to play games and make the choices in them the way I would make them if I were in that situation and hell, he's hunted the bastard for more than a decade, letting him live just isn't an option.
I personally feel the revenge ending is the true ending for Silas. Man spent his whole life hunting for revenge and despite knowing it turned him into another man entirely, it's too late to turn back. What's one more body on a mountain of corpses?
No matter what ending you chose, the ending you chose describes about who you could be when you were in that circumstances like Silas's. When something happen to you and it makes you feel devastated, people suffocates you, betray you, tear you apart, done something painful to you... In the end there's only 1 of 2 things you would choose "Revenge" or "Redemption". If you do "Revenge", "Redemption" alone won't be enough to fill the void in you. If you do "Redemption", "Revenge" would be so worthless to do.
well, is actually "accurate" if you read his nugget of truth in the game, implying that Dwight had an "old cowboy" as friend and mentor when he was young.
@@Madheim777 apparently it is somewhat true, according to his wikipedia article Dwight learned hunting, fishing, cooking and card playing thanks to an illiterate named Bob Davis, but I haven't found any other mention of him or anything that confirms he was an actual cowboy.
something i love about gunslinger’s two ending options is that (unlike other games) both feel like choices that silas would easily make, rather than having the obvious good ending, and then the deflated, unnecessarily exaggerated bad ending. silas has both gone to hell and back to find and kill bob for killing his brothers, and slowly realized the pointlessness of his revenge, with both feeling well balanced enough for the final choice to make you genuinely think. awesome game, i wish it wasn’t as criminally underrated as it is.
Redemption ending makes more sense to me, thinking about all people he killed at the end of his story, how the alcohol got him thinking about what grey wolf said, he decided that he WAS Bob, and Bob was Ben. So he left Ben with the coin, signifying that his quest for revenge was over
Had just played through this game fully and got up to this point and last of us 2 came exactly to mind. Though redemption is a great choice and is the ‘good’ ending, why not enact your revenge after the countless people you’ve already killed. Since it’s based off of the old western movies and tropes, it’s really satisfying getting to end it off with a final showdown and finish what you started. The last of us 2 could’ve borrowed from this honestly.
I just finished, and i chosed redemption, i think that's the first time in a game that i make it, as you guys say, the "pointless" ending after all the character had to go through. Not for mercy, but i didn't hate "ben", i could see he really was another person now and should be spared. I killed darko in gta iv, chosed revenge in the final mission and recently killed maurice, but all of them didn't give a shit about the bad things they've done. Really amazing game by ubisoft and so cheap.
if they wanted to make us feel bad about killing bob then they should have made him say something along the lines of "well I deserve it" and not pulling his gun out in the duel, in the way they did it it felt like bob wasn't really remorseful but was only saying that to save his own life
For such a short game it was so fun I would love to see this much love and care go into another call of Juarez easily the best in a series I already loved. (With number 3 not existing of course)
This game was so damn epic.I was expecting to be a fun shooter from what I saw in the Trailer, but the story was so well written that I got so caught up in this game, that I couldn't stop playing it.I finished it in like 5h the first time and the second time in like 3-4h I loved both endings, but I think I'll stick with redemption, because Ben really changed his life and everybody deserves a second chance after all.
So is it true that Ben was Bob all along as Silas Greaves knew that he was with John Kinney’s gang in the story that helped him reveal he was Bob Bryant all along?
@@shawnrichards8865 Wouldn't have expected to get a reply after 6 years but I believe so. Last time I played CoJ Gunslinger was when I made this comment :))
for me is the inverse, bob lives all his life scared and running, knowing that he is prosecuted, and sees all what he had destroyed and torn apart by just one guy. Silas forgives him and also himself, knowing that at that point, Bob is nothing but a husk of his former self, being a pathetic guy who noone knows, to the point that he had to change his name and identity. Silas on the other side, is a legend and inspirational figure for guys like Dwight.
Turns out killing Bob after so long is not satisfying, anger faded out a long time ago. Plus Bob\Ben is grandpa Max from Ben10 and one year later they invented the Colt 1911 a magazine fed semi-automatic pistol, end of revolvers...
Thelonesniper101 Are you? Magazine fed firearms are much more efficient than drum loaders. It's not the "end" of revolvers but you have to agree that they're much more efficient in a firefight, you don't take too long in reloading, plus modern semi automatic pistols have mechanisms to reduce recoil a lot better than the revolvers.
Not exactly the end of revolvers actually. One big advantage that revolvers have over semi-auto is that it never jams and because of that, they were still issued to troops in both World Wars. In the case of reloading faster however? Both a yes and no. Yes because technically revolvers had to get all of it's rounds loaded in by hand, but at the same time, no because of the invention of speedloaders.
yea, just downloaded it 2 days ago and i finished it already, such a fun game :) came here to see the other enging, cuz i was too lazy to complete the last mission again :)
I just finished the game and went to see the redemption ending because i tried to get it but when i replayed the last mission it didnt work. I like revenge ending better,i think it suits the badass character silas greaves. And that line when he hands ben the gun "i wont have it said that i left you with nothing" so powerful mate
Doesn't really matter does it as I have sold my soul for it an will never again walk with those I have lost Silas greaves you are a true legend of the West
I mowed through hundreds of people, killing them with no remorse, and I considered it a lot, and I could only accept revenge, redemption is nice and all but I didn’t kill all those people just to give up now
I would've loved for the good ending to have it's own gameplay, instead of ending abruptly. Wouldn't it have been way more epic if a local gang were to attack the town and then you and Bob would work together to protect it? Not only would've that been frickin epic but it would've also shown that Silas truly learned from his experiences, dedicating his life not to revenge, but making sure nobody gets dealt the injustices he faced when he saw his brothers get hanged... even if it meant protecting those whom wronged him in the past.
Man, it always depends on how do you play it. If you play it on the easiest difficulity when all you need to do is to run and shoot, then it can be too short. If you die a few times before you start to be good in this game, then it takes more time and you get more satisfaction for compleating it. In Metro Last light you can beat the game in 7 hours scoring the bad ending. If you go for the good ending that takes like 14 hours + dying time if you play on hard difficulity. But you get satisfaction
this game surprised me for low cost i got a pretty dam good game best I've played in awhile. think the last good 1 was Borderlands 2. i needed this thx Call of Juarez
Exactly the same here, Redemption was the way for me, but Just wanted to see the other Ending. Must say, it may be short but this game is well worth the £12 price tag. A really good buy and an amazing game to add to the series :D
the game was a big fun. those dialogs of Old Silas pretending drunk and mixing things in his story. soooo funny thank you Techland for such a great game. both endings are good. but i should have chosen the redemption
I chose redemption. he had changed, he was remorseful. he now needs to live with fact that the brother of the man he killed was bigger than himself in the end. But on the other hand... i missed out on a duel. so as far as gameplay goes, i missed out on one last bit. revenge is just more of a fun way to end the game for the player...
Wasn't a very easy game, but damn, what a story. :-) Choosed Redemption. What would be a good story without learning its lesson? ;-) Also, who would shoot Grandpa Max? ;-)
@@ixb1zzar3xi Finished it today. I can certainly understand why poor Silas was losing his marbles by the end of it. Poor dude could've end up spending his last days shooting up ghost towns until Grey Wolf comes looking for him.
This is actually, I believe, the first game in which I didn't fucking spoil myself by checking up the ending( For the first time, I didn't even know there were too endings. I strugled for like an hour before choosing which one to choose when I reached the point.) on RU-vid or reading comment containing spoilers on trailers. I actually downloaded it and finished it without even checking it up on the internet, and I REALLY liked it. It was the good choice I made by playing it!
These days games are always trying to show us that forgiveness is the best option, don't remember what was my first choice in this game, but when I replayed it not so long time ago I chose revenge without any hesitation as well as I didn't hesitate to shoot bandits as soon as I've heard a heartbeat because they were scumbags so any "honor" cannot be applied to them. Sylas Grieves is all about vengeance, Bob was a Dr. Frankenstein who took life of Sylas and his brothers while created a monster who had nothing else but revenge, but Sylas is old now old and about to die soon, so he should have got his vengeance in the end.
death ohhhhhhhhh deeeeeath could you please spare me another yeeaaaar damn bro that song really made me cry when thy put it in the credits i wished there was more (btw i did redemption ending im still woking on the other one)
How there isn't a official OST for the music playing on the revenge ending goddamit lol, i know it's a remix from the main menu theme but damn how good it sounds
Perhaps i ain't the bigger man but if someone killed my siblings, especially in a manner this cruel and evil, i wouldn't really just give up cause in their later years they gave up crime. For me someone who does something so twisted is beyond redemption
personally i prefer the redemption ending. The fact that you can't run from your past sins, so they eventually will catch up to you. Silas showed that to Bob, implying that he could have killed him anytime during his stories, but chose to toy with him, and already have hunted him in a metaphorical way. Also Silas is old and tired of killing, and is not exactly a cold blooded killer, but a guy with a motivation. He somehow killed Bob, taking from him all what he had, and made him scared for his life, to the point that he had to make a new name and job, and start a new life. Killing him at that point would be just a plus, and only would add salt to the injury, leaving him with nothing productive. Instead by forgiving him and himself, he can live the rest of his life, knowing that he made justice and also inspiring a youngling (Eisenhower) to do something better than what he did.
I was really hoping in the revenge part Silas would end with him tossing the coin on Bob's cold leadfilled body, saying with an unforfild and somber voice "Let it be known I didn't leave you with nothing Bob." The coin landing on Bob's bloody chest, mixing in with his blood. Then Silas leaving without looking back. Got a bit disappointed how it actually happened. XD
Picking redemption gives you a good felling inside then you think yourself silly because its just a video game But this is my second favorite western game but of course red dead redemption as my first
go for revenge, there wouldnt be an epid duel otherwise. try to justify it all you want, the friends ending is nonsense. Your brothers didnt get a chance of penance. Bob has been breathing far too long. The whole game sets this up, to walk away after spending a lifetime to find the bastard? not a chance
i finished the game several times and could not make myself to choose the revenge ending, thats why im here :D srsly my current playthrough is gonna be redemtion again
