@@py758 I’m okay with a port. For a lot of PlayStation users the only way to play is through a PS3, which launched 17 years ago at this point. That’s older than the original PS1 was when Red Dead Redemption originally launched (1994-2010, 16 years).
@@kaos1162 Why do you look up the comment section of a video about the ending of the franchise you just started playing? That's a very bad idea. Get out of here before you really get spoiled.
I think it’s poetic that the first time jack meets ross, ross ruins jack’s fishing trip and the last time jack meets ross, jack ruins ross’s fishing trip
@@jesseroberts1041 I think he knows he's gonna be hunted for the rest of his life and don't want his family to be part of that so he sacrificed himself.
I love how the last two NPCs you see are Ross' wife and brother just showing that a revenge tale is never isolated between two people. There will always be living victims.
@@ripvanwinkle9935 I brought his wife to him and drowned them both. Fuck I usually play paragon or the pacifist but they did my boy John dirty and they gots to pay.
@@BootyBot Do you think they just let him live in the barn if he did stay? He knew there was no way to survive and keep his family safe. So he chose to sacrifice himself.
It's crazy how much rdr2 makes this ending feel even more lonely. You had this big cast of characters you got to know and love/hate. Then slowly they either die or leave. Even if he was a scumbag, Ross's death is sad, leaving a feeling of quiet loneliness as all that's left is Jack.
I know right, after RDR2, RDR1 feels entirely different and sad. Knowing that all gang members used to be like family, end up becoming enemies and killing each other is just so sad.
@@EstebanMejia_ that wouldn't make red dead tell the story of Outlaws and in red dead 1 the age of Outlaws was over the World started to be civilized so maybe Rdr3 will tell the story of the golden ages of Outlaws where everything started for the van der linde gang
5:18 Uncle was the laziest and most selfish stubborn old man. But despite that, he died protecting the only family he had left. His last words telling John to leave him and get Abigail and Jack to safety is a really powerful moment that everyone forgets about because of obvious reasons that happen just a few minutes later.
AND TRUMP RISKED HIS LIFE SAVING THE ONLY FAMILY HE HAD LEFT US THE AMERICANS AND HE LIVED CUZ HES AWESOME AND HE MADE US NUMBER 1 NOW PLEASE VOTE TRUMP PLEASE SO TRUMP CAN FINISH HIS LEGACY AND SAVE OUR COUNTRY
You get to see who someone really is moments before they die, and that's really who Uncle was, at the end of the day. The One-Shot-Kid was loyal through and through.
I like to think that Jack, knowing love from an early age on and being as intelligent/self aware as he is, was able to truly appreciate Arthur and John’s sacrifices and learn from their failures. He kills Ross not just to avenge his father, but to “close the book” on their saga and is the one to truly go straight afterward. Becomes a writer and Red Dead Revolver and Redemption 1&2 are his books. Revolver a classic romantic western novel, and Redemption his autobiography
@@yourehereforthatarentyou There’s a conversation in the epilogue of RDR2 where he ask Abigail if it was Arthur who saved them. Realistically I doubt someone in real life would.
@@yourehereforthatarentyou Powerful and impactful memories can last a lifetime. I still remember very important people in my life who died when I was around 4. Hell, I even remember stuff from when I was 3. It really depends on how powerful the moment is, and I'm pretty sure arthur and the whole ordeal with the gang were pretty impactful in Jack's life.
Unfortunately with the theme of the game I doubt it. The theme highlighting the vicious cycle of violence in their lifestyle. John robbed and stole, setting himself up to be used, and then disposed of by a evil man, which then instills vengeance and hate in Jacks heart for how wronged his Father was in the end. Not to mention after killing a government official like that.. its likely Jack is now a wanted man like his Father was.. even if Jack is a good man like his Father was.
@That is Bull Shiz i wouldn’t, he’s a criminal, if i was in ross’s position i would have use john to get the bigger outlaws like dutch and them, which he did, then i’d tie up the loose end
Surely spaghetti was a known food in the US by the time rdr1 takes place right? I refuse to think that someone could ever live their whole lives without eating spaghetti.
@@Uhhhh970 Nope. From stories that I heard, spaghetti is considered to be an exotic food in the 50's, kinda like how we see sushi or kebabs today. So I reckon people only started to eat them then.
One of the hardest parts of this ending for me was seeing Jack become a man and seeing Abigails grave. She died an early death due to heartbreak. It's nice to know how strong her love for John was
He lost everyone he cared about no wonder he turned into an outlaw, In his pursuit to rid the west of crime Ross unknowingly created another John Marston.
What's sad is that she only survived until 1914. She only made it another 3 years without John there and she died at 37. It's hard to say exactly how much time had passed since she had died because I don't believe there's any dates in the game after you play as Jack.
I think what hurt the most playing this game for the first time was. I fully expected John to live. Like, he got through worse. He's fought armies larger than this, and this just... Hurt so bad.

@@aryans4519 It's unlikely both games play in the same universe, but still it's a nice touch, especially since you see Jack getting teached reading by Hosea in the camp.
While Arthur's death is sad you expect it, you know he's only got so long and at least when he dies he gets to face the rising sun. It's bitter-sweet and beautiful. John's death is just gut wrenching. It's surprising, it's brutal and it's visceral. It comes from nowhere because John has been shown to wipe out entire squads of military so you think he's going to win but he doesn't. It doesn't help that it goes into Dead Eye making you think you have the advantage. Reality hits you like a sack of bricks. Over a decade later and a characters death hasn't hit me as hard as John's did.
13 years later and I am still dumbfounded that this game had the fucking audacity to put the radar and Dead Eye meter back on the screen briefly during John's last stand. They gave me an infinitesimal bit of hope that I could still make it out. Beautiful ending, screw them for ripping out my heart.

Well he did take on several gangs mostly done by himself like Bill's gang and the Walton gang Was a big factor on the Mexican Civil war/revolution, both taking on the rebels and then the Mexican government after being betrayed by them and lastly the US army cavalry, marshalls and some beaureu agents in his last stand
@mean mother hubber that's more of a player choice atleast for that part for me. In my canon, he doesen't fight back, I just think he gives them what they wanted, letting himself get killed off easily.
I just absolutely love how the the first and last time Jack deals with Ross is once as a kid with Arthur, then once as an adult by himself. I really hope the next RDR game follows Jack. I really want to know this mans story after avenging his father. That or the next game being focused around what happened at Blackwater.
Personally I hope we get to play as either a younger Arthur or even Dutch and the end of the game is the black water robbery. At the end your forced to kill that woman he kills and we see him start to turn more into the monster we see him as at the end of rdr2.
I'll never forget that feeling I had seeing John get gunned down, I just sat there staring at the TV in utter disbelief. I couldn't look away or do anything, even after getting to play as Jack I was just sitting there trying my best to comprehend it all.
As far as i know,in that time main characters dying wasnt a common thing...then John comes in,gives you hope that he can gun down everyone in deadeye mode and...just dies
Instead of immediately going after Ross Jack stayed behind to take care of his mother. Only after she died did he finally track Ross down. That's pretty honorable of him.
Yeah an unattended paper cut back then usually meant death by the end of the week. But yeah maybe the will to not go on could have started some illness or poor health.
You know what makes this scene beautiful? In a happy/sad type of beauty? Jack seems genuinely happy about being praised by John on his work in the beginning. When John says "you're real good with them tools". Jack voice raises a bit in almost disbelief/surprise his father complimented on his craftsmanship. The way he says "thank you, pa" his voice cracks. It's subtle, but it's a compliment that Jack didn't expect. His eyes move back and forth trying to find a hint of sarcasm, but there is none and he got a genuine compliment from the baddest living mfer in the west. He is not used to this, since John is always trying to help him, whether it is shooting a gun or hunting, for once John actually has no criticism in Jack. Which is a big step in finally realizing your child has become independent in something without your guidance/advice. It's a huge deal to anyone that's had tough/judgemental parents. Then, when John and Jack discuss the invention of the airplane, Jack says "them machines could turn men into angels". Right after he mentions the day John Marston stops shooting. And what did turn John Marston into an angel that very day? Multiple metal machines of gunfire ripping thru his mortal body, turning that man into an angel. I'm sure this was intended by the writers. But if not, then damn, they wrote a masterpiece on so many levels with so many layers. I love this game
That's really poetic I didn't think about that. Also the fact that in that same dialogue Jack jokes about writing a book called "they day John Marson stopped shooting", which was that same day...
After marston died thought it was over, but finding ross organically with no walkthrough or spoiler, I was just going through motions as his son, randomly stumbled upon the mission. I've never seen a better story. Best thing ive ever seen hands down
My favourite subtle detail about this is the fact Archer, Ross's right hand man throughout the game, wasn't actually present for this mission. Given how he personally congratulated John after Dutch's death and acknowledged that John had done all of this despite loathing every second of it, it's fair to assume Archer refused to partake in killing John out of respect for him, even if he couldn't stop it from going ahead.
I admire how Jack remained patient on his revenge, took care of his mother until she passed away then he goes after Ross. I respect him for prioritizing his family.
I think its fitting how john and arthur both make the same sacrfice, Arthur fighting off micah and the pinkertons so john would have time to run saying to "Run and dont look back" and john 12 years or something like that later fighting off the pinkertons and telling jack "keep riding and dont look back". John knew what he had to do the second he delivered that line. he knew he was to suffer the same fate as arthur. Just shows how much level of detail the writers of the read dead series put.
I love how proud John was of Jack. He knew he had by some miracle raised him right, he admired how intelligent he had become and knew he would be better. I'd like to think that after Jack got his vengeance he became an author or scholar.
Even if he doesn't commit any more crimes after this, it is quite possible for him to get caught and end up in prison or killed like his father. The choice should have been give to the player and have a happy ending for choosing not to take revenge and a sad one (getting caught and charged for murder) for choosing to take revenge, which is also something his parents didn't want him to do.
@@ashedits4_ How does a book prove he didn't get caught? The Marquis de Sade, for example, wrote some of his books while he was locked up in the lunatic asylum, so Jack too could have written his book while he was in prison.
@@redkingoldhero38 Crime they commited. Jack didnt do any crime, he doesnt count as real outlaw who did crime in the west (that means Mexico doesnt count, its just simple justice). It started with Dutch and ended with Dutch. Dutchs mother was burried in Blackwater, they failed heist in Blackwater and John died near Blackwater.
I love how In just a few simple sentences with Ross we see jack go from his usual well mannered and educated self to the typical red dead gunslinger, starts the conversation referring to him as sir and ends it calling him an old man and standing his ground. 1000/10 detail and storytelling for this game
My favorite part is that John probably could've handled Ross and his men from the barn, with some tactics and critical thinking I'm sure he could've took those men down but he chooses to die cause he thinks its what is best for his family. He frees them of all the fear and problems to arise by simply dying. He lets go of his past life to try giving them a better one. Truly a fucking chad
Exactly John fought entire armies of men. He absolutely could’ve taken them down aswell but he realized that there was no redemption except death. Even after everything he did to help the government, it was a lost cause. Him and his family would always live in fear, have to leave the farm. It was the only way he could get them the freedom he wanted for himself.
@@501stcrusade5 They don't mention him because he wasn't thought of at the time. Everything Arthur does in regard to John is just convenient for his story. That's a nice thought though.
Supreme Dreams678 cmon man let us think of it the better way, I like to think that Rockstar had Arthur planned all along, it’s probably like a 99.9% chance that ain’t true but still a man can dream

Glyphixs the irony in it. Jack first saw him by a river stream when he was 4 years old. And 15 years later he kills him at a stream and avenges his father.
9:05 You can see the confidence just fade away from his face. Love that. Well, it wasn't really confidence. He was seeing how many he had to kill. I'm guessing off-screen he saw the entire army. That's when he knew he was gonna die.
When I played this game for the first time, I didn't cry when John was killed, though I was quite sad. It was only at that last scene before the credits, after Jack walked away from Ross and the title card hit that I really started crying. John did everything, including giving his life, to try and make sure Jack could stay away from this life and live a peaceful one. And yet here Jack is, anyway, an outlaw just like his father. I cried through all the credits of this game. It's a masterpiece.
Any decade now, more like 😂 Next year they will have milked GTA V for 11 goddamn years, it's ridiculous! As much as I love GTA, and even moreso the Red Dead Redemption series, I miss the days when Rockstar didn't restrict themselves to two IPs - "L.A. Noire", "Oni" (I would KILL for a follow-up to that classic), "Midnight Club", "Max Payne", "Manhunt", "The Warriors", "Smuggler's Run", "Bully", "State of Emergency", hell even "Beaterator" and "Table Tennis"... would be SO good to see some of those neglected games/series make a triumphant next-gen comeback. Particularly "Oni", "Bully", "Smuggler's Run" and "Manhunt" - the latter used to be one of the company's most [in]famous series! They need to diversify a bit, because releasing only two games in a decade is, quite frankly, **depressing**! 😅 ...Gotta say though it would be SO sweet if they did a second "State of Emergency" also, that game had SO much potential, and since then there haven't been any noteworthy attempts at replicating its unique mechanics and aspects; the whole riot concept was disappointingly constricted by the PlayStation 2/Xbox but now they could easily realise it at ten times the magnitude, simulating an entire city and massive, violent crowds within it. It would essentially be GTA but in a hostile, dangerous city - maybe during a coup or revolution or something - where each district is controlled by different insurgent groups, though some are also controlled by heavily-armoured highly-militarised cops. The player character gets caught in the chaos and can ally themselves with one of the many insurgents, or join the police force (they're desperate and will take anyone at this point), or if they're reckless enough they can try to survive on their own. The player could also betray factions and play them off each other, as well as declare war on any other faction and initiate a takeover of their territory and seizure of their assets. They could also add low-key alternatives, like maybe you could partake in espionage and sabotage to achieve your goals, for example for espionage you could join one group as an undercover agent for another group, and then begin stealing technological blueprints or scientific research that would give your side an advantage; for sabotage you could maybe sneak into an insurgent base and slash the tires of all their vehicles, or start a fire in one of their drug labs or at one of their food crops, or interrupt their supply chain by bribing or killing their trade contacts... And speaking of trade, the game could have a fairly complex trading system where factions randomly trade with each other in real-time, and each transaction uses one of the faction's actual trucks to deliver and receive goods, so you could destroy a faction's entire fleet of trucks and they would be unable to trade for say, 20 minutes IRL time or something. Sorry for rambling lol, "State of Emergency" just had so much potential and it was such a unique concept with the rioting and chaos in the streets, and with the capabilities of current gen it would be the perfect time to actually try and fully realise that concept without crappy hardware limitations. Sadly I'm sure Rockstar has totally forgotten that game even existed, but hopefully someone somewhere utilises that concept in a game eventually because it's too awesome to just let it go to waste! 😅😂
It took a literal army of cowards to kill one brave man, and even when he was showered in bullets, he somehow managed not to die immediately, John was a beast
He survives getting shot in Blackwater, nearly getting mauled and freezing, getting shot on the train and falling off of it. Getting the shit beat out of him. Getting shot by bill then Dutch. And then lives a couple of seconds after being showered by bullets and survived fighting Micah
@@timthetoolmantaylor9048 And this is a videogame related video. Games are a unique way of storytelling and it's natural to grow attached to the cast in them if they are written well. Just like with a series.
I really love that Jack is accurate with a gun. Because he spends both games reading, He was just naturally skilled since he grew up in a gang of gunslingers
it wouldn’t be me if I didn’t loot Not exactly since in a few years the government would be to busy fighting the Germans and at that point a bunch of gunslingers would mean little to them,
"Your father killed himself with the life he lived." Jack should have said "And so did you." and then blasted his skull straight back to Red Dead Revolver
I think the whole thing was John tried to protect Jack from that outlaw life and killing Edgar Ross ignited that once again because every government agency are probably gonna go after Jack.
I really love how the entire red dead redemption 1 sountrack is made with dozens of stems and its amazing. For example at 5:20 the music was pretty dramatic for the guy who recorded this video but for me there was no music. Its completely random (except for actual tracks like triggernometry etc etc) and because of that when in free roam you do something cool and the music understands the assingment its legendary. I would also like to appologize for my large amount of yapping and rip john
Dutch told him straight up "they're gonna kill you next" Dutch was many things but, he still had some wisdom behind all of it. Red Dead Redemption is one of the greatest series ever made.
Beautiful interaction with a son with his father. His son teaching his father things. I don’t even care about the game. Beautiful representation of a father and a son.
Its easy to make a happy ending and its even easier to make a bad ending but to make an ending that is depressing but at the same time satisfying is one of this game (and the sequel's) greatest achievements when it comes to the story and it leaves a long lasting impression on you.
