When bugling, in my personal opinion, the first and second notes of the cadence should be just a tad longer, and maybe a little more time between the notes (think about the deer getting air back in his lungs). I've also found that the third note in the cadence is usually shorter (but not always), and always different than the other two (you guys demonstrated that very well). Derek's last cadence was the best of the entire show (sorry Bonce ha). Sika will sometimes use a 4 or 2 note cadence, but not real often. I called one in this past Friday evening. It is the greatest thrill in hunting in my opinion, but I'm a native Marylander so I'm hardly impartial I love the videos guys, I watch them all.

I'm just curious about the turkey beards. you two both look rather young that's a lot of beards for a 2 bird limit in Maryland.

We are both in pursuit of the US Super Slam, so we hunt quite a few states every year.

Good video, gents. I’m using Jason’s diaphragms this year, too. I will have my un-RIVAL-ed tube with me, but only use it when hunting the timber. I have not tried the yellow diaphragm, yet. So far, my favorite for Sika sounds has been his black one. It is for young cows and calf elk and produces some great, high-pitch calls. Thanks for putting this video together. You guys, both, sound great. 👍

Nice review. Have always wondered about some of the other calls. Started using diaphragms last year with fair success.

Good video on the calls I appreciate it. Question is there any waders you all prefer for the marsh. I don't hunt the shore yet but will try it soon. Looking for easy on and off, and will hold up in the marsh. Thank you in advance.

We like breathable waders for the comfort. Rogers/frog toggs make them with removable insulated liners which is quite handy. However. That marsh is hard on any wader.

Awesome info! Have you guys tried to call pre-rut or post-rut, or do you think calling is more for the rut? Thanks
@TheBaysideLegion
@TheBaysideLegion 3 года назад
The deer use vocalizations year round, so I would believe it can be effective if used correctly at any given time. Some days they arent as vocal and some they are in all stages before during and after rut, just a little more pronounced during. Adjust your calling to what you're hearing and how the deer react to it. Good luck and thanks for following

Thanks for the solid video. Pretty much just bought the Charlie Messina call the day this video released, good timing!

Glad you liked it. We liked Charlie's call a lot better outside. The acoustics inside didnt do any of the calls justice.

Yes sir lol I’ve got a hind so far but never a stag. You’ve inspired me to try Blackwater seems to be more sikas available then my area. Will have to try next year though do to all the archery permits taken up for this year. How do you feel about scents and what’s your advice on picking spots out they’re and what’s the process for that? First come first serve ? If you can find a way to drop me your number without giving it to the world I would love to hunt with you one day 😎

For someone who wants to get into Sika deer hunting, which one would you recommend to try first? Sika seducer?
@TheBaysideLegion
@TheBaysideLegion 3 года назад
Imo try replicating the hinds first. Unfortunately we've heard too many people go buy a seducer on their way to the marsh and have no clue as to how to use it. But whatever you choose will be good, just practice with it until it becomes second nature.

@@TheBaysideLegion Hey! Thank you for the prompt reply. I plan to get a Seducer or some other call soon and just practice all spring and summer until I get it right. My plan is to bowhunt public land with a buddy from MD. I am from South PA, a few miles form the MD border.

Will the sika seducer be good for fallow too

I do not believe so, but I'm not familiar with the noises a fallow deer makes.

@TheBaysideLegion

Strictly public for us Paul. Not sure if that's by choice or being priced out of Dorchester private, but nonetheless public is all we got. Thanks for watching.

The Bayside Legion I don’t have nothing against baiters either I just think it doesn’t teach you how to really hunt I think they miss the whole experience good luck this year I’m hunting blackwater archery and I have 4 days muzzle loader I was down there last week I took my bike about a mile and half back there found a couple good spots didn’t hear any bugles but I’ll be going down Saturday hope there bugling this week

Any recommendations for a caller for fallow deer
@TheBaysideLegion
@TheBaysideLegion 3 года назад
I could be mistaken as we've never hunted fallow deer, but I believe they grunt similar to a whitetail.

I've heard there was a fallow deer preserve close to PG county that had a bunch get loose and now they are occasionally seen wondering public land.
