If you feel peace a happiness when you hear this song, you don’t get the song. There is nothing peaceful or happy about it. This song is terribly sad.
@10to1imjokin
@10to1imjokin 5 лет назад
@@Michael-jw6et I was not able to be with my father when he passed away unexpectedly, and felt very sad about that for many years, until I heard this song, which is titled "Farewell", and thru the melody and beauty of this wonderful song I was able to find a bridge between my sorrow and my Dad's peace. I feel a connection with my father which gives me peace and joy, melded with the loss and sorrow, so we hear the same song, and each of us takes away our own meaning and emotion.
@Michael-jw6et
@Michael-jw6et 5 лет назад
10to1imjokin You are right. I know music is subjective. I just don’t understand the peace part of it. It’s literally the only song that I can’t listen to without breaking down. No other song does that to me. Not only does it bring back the sorrow of loss I have experienced, but it causes me to visualize and picture the loss of people who are not even gone yet..
@NickSmith-hv9zi
@NickSmith-hv9zi 5 лет назад
@@Michael-jw6et Just because the song is entitle "Farewell" doesn't mean one should immediately associate it with people passing on. This song is well written, and it brings pieces regardless. Can be listen in any moods if that strikes you. Well done Calum.

Lost my Dad in '92 and my Mom in 2008. I was her caregiver from 2005 to 2008 and I watched a vibrant and gregarious woman who was active in her church to a pale, used up shadow that I barely recognized. But in the end, I saw her... not as she was, but when she married my Dad... a young, 20ish graduate of UT with the whole world before her and WW II to win. I miss them both, but especially her because she "got" me. Thanks for your music Calum. I'm 100% sure my Mom would have loved to have heard you.

@@brianm744 my mom and I were very close, much closer than I was to my dad (whom I also lost in September 2019). Mom was in church and praising God 2 days before she passed. As a person of faith myself, the only reason it is less painful is because I know she is home with Jesus ❤️

So beautiful and moving, Calum. I recall when Michael Hedges was recording and occasionally touring with Michael Manring, 30 years ago. You currently being my favorite guitarist, it makes me so happy to see you working with him - because as I've followed your music and your musical development for the past three years or so, I've been certain that you are of that same world-class caliber. You deserve to be right in there recording with the likes of Manring and others on that level, like Don Ross. I feel a sense of joy that you are in the world and creating such beauty in your music. And I look forward to listening for many years to come. Hope you make it out the Bay Area soon!

Can't believe it took me so long to run across this clip. Speaking as a bassist, Michael Manring is one of my heroes. Tony Karol is my favourite luthier, especially when it comes to his harp guitars. Antoine is a terrific player, and did an excellent job on this production. It's so great that all of that goodness is there in support of Callum's song and expressive playing.
