I am glad the Wings didn't overspend this free agency.. I have Griffin season tickets and I promise there are plenty of young talented players in the pipeline.. Berrgeren, Solderblom, Johansson, Mazur, Kasper.. they are all ready to take a step forward.
Doesn’t matter how good they are in the AHL it’s still a crap shoot if they can play in the NHL. Not a good strategy to make the playoffs which is a must this year. As the team sits now it’s basically the same team maybe even worse
@romasana404 I'm not sure, that's why I was wondering. Watching him skate he's actually a guy I've been hoping we trade at some point. Would have rather moved him then Gibson
There are two things to consider here. First, the elephants in the room. Ray and Mo don't have contracts yet. Stevie did say this would affect what we can do in FA, as money needed to be left for them under the cap. Second, do you remember all the complaining from folks last year about how we signed way too many vets instead of promoting the kids? Yeah... I do. I think we're promoting the kids, and many of these two-way contracts are taking the places of kids in GR. I would've loved to land Stamkos and/or Marchy, but I think the writing was on the wall *last* season, when we signed all those vets.
Okay, here are my thoughts so far. This will be a bit lenghty so feel free to scroll on and ignore my post if it bothers you so much, ok? Here we go... There is a saying in free agency that could be applied here, "sometimes the moves you DON'T DO, are the best ones"... With Seider & Raymond needing new contract (meaning both will get their salarys bumped basically ten folds! From 8-900k to likely 8-9 mil), anyone with half a brain should understand this was NOT the offseason to go crazy in free agency. This is what Stevie Y had pointed at all along! So not sure why people get so worked up... Did you want more overpaid contracts that are hindering the future? He probably learned that free agency is more of a stop gap solution then a real effective way to build a winner. Im super greatful that he did not get another Copp or Chiarot at long term. Now let's see what he done so far: Best move imo is bringing in Erik Gustafsson over Gostisbehere! I know, he might not be as "sexy" of a player like Ghost, but he fills the same role on A LOT better contract and value. His strenght isnt defensive, but he is alot more steady on a third pair then Ghost was, so only comparing that is a clear win between the two! He was a regular on the president trophy winner team the New York Rangers! Just that fact should tell you he is a quality player. ALSO! And this is a big one i think many oversee, he has experience and a proven record to run a PP when he played in Chicago with DeBrincat & Kane! He was their #1 PP guy there and he put up 17 goals, 60p while playing with them. So does he have potential to make up that 10 goals, 56p we lost in Ghost WHILE being better defensively on a third pair? This at a potential steal of a contract? Heck yeah! This is a slam dunk signing for me, specially if you where looking after a guy that specifically are gonna fill Gostisbehere role. (Sidenote, not sure how Helene can have a job as a writer stating this is a signing to bolster the defensive part of the team and "not being a PP quarterback" like she is saying in her freep article, when he specifically been used and seen as a "PP specialist" all his career. But I digress...) Ok lets get to the rest... Talbot was a bit of a headscratcher for me, but if they are planning to move on from Husso (maybe they know something that we don't about his injury situation?), it makes sense. Also, if Talbot does not work out and with the goalie market being thin as it is, his contract was short and relative small cap, so wont be that hard to move seing he is a proven guy who actually was a all star goalie in LA as their starter on a playoff team last season which i think people forget. Jack Campbell is imo a slam dunk signing for Grand Rapids! It is on leauge minimum on a 1 year, so ZERO RISK! He is replacing Michael Hutchinson who only played ONE GAME for us in Detroit, so calm the f*ck down people! Also you need your 3rd goalie to be able to move up and down to pass through waivers which people seem to not understand! If you want a "better 3rd goalie" then you cant get him through waivers, facts. AND again, he is mostly signed to be the backup and mentor for Sebastian Cossa, who where drafted simular spot to Campbell who can offer experience and advice from that with him being used to pressure after being the #1 guy in Toronto for several years. YES, YES, YES he did not work out in Edmonton and was a major flop signed there on a 5 mil cap, yes fine whatever he IS NOT signed here for the same purpuse. Also he did fine in the AHL last season where he put up 92% and 18 wins in 30 some games. A slam dunk 3rd string/AHL veteran backup goalie who can come up (again, like Hutchinson did last year) and give you a solid game here and there. He is NOT signed to be anything else, so stop whining!!! Zero risk and with the off chance he will revive his NHL career and be the backup (simular to players like Lyon have or look no further then Calvin Pickard in Edmonton who stole his job last year, just got awarded a 2 year extension with the Oilers to act as their backup this after recived simular complaints when he signed with us for a couple of years agoo to act as our 3rd goalie, and look at him now. So how is this a bad thing???) I wont comment more about the other signings cause they are so minor and i don't see people complaining about those needing to adress, bringing back Fischer on exactly the same low cap deal and totally burieble contract is a no brainer. Lagesson, Snively and Dries are AHL depth signings who are able to fill in a game here and there in the NHL if a ton of injurys happen, simular to Campbell i already adressed. What else? Yes we let Perron walk to Ottawa, it was a no brainer for me and apperantly Stevie Y aswell. I would have been very disappointed if they would have put 4 mil into him with an extra year, no thanks! This is where a guy like Carter Mazur (or Elmer Söderblom if he bounces back) could be given a real NHL chance (and i havnt even talked about Berggren yet who also needs a spot, cant bring back EVERY VETERAN if you want to improve, which you do in a rebuild from within), who i think many fans would like to see. Perron was slowing down and costing us lots of bad penaltys doing so. I would have been ok with bringing him back on a 1 year around 1,5-2 mil to play on our bottom six but 4??? Hell no, we dodged a bullet there. More moves are coming rest assure. That 2nd pair right dman is the big one for me i'm waiting for. There where ZERO good solutions on that in free agency! If you did not want to overpay and give out a crazy contract like Matt Roy got at 7(!) years at almost 6 mil, I mean c'mon thats crazy and the best move in free agency is to stay away from those kind of moves... No, trading for other teams players who are desperate for cap space in "the now" is the way to go here. Trouba on 2 years or Ekblad at 1 year is my target, both teams are desperate to free up cap space and could even retain salary doing so. This while still giving up a good player (like we did in Walman who did not fit any more on our specific roster but does well in SJ, this is the type of move you want to look for if you are Detroit with these guys). You wont need to give up anything of real value in these types of cap dump transactions, again, you saw that in the Walman move... I think one of Ekblad and Trouba will wound up here, both have been tied (and have local connections and family here) to us. Once that is adressed, this team is improved sorely on the guys they let walk (like Perron) and the guys from within who will take the next step. The one thing left to adress outside that right handed dman on a 2nd pair (where you probably dump one of Holl or Maatta in return) is scoring depth since they have 2 spots left on forward to use. Here is where i probably circle back to Daniel Sprong who brought great value first part of the season atleast (and been reported being a good buddy to Kane aswell) since there isnt alot of good options on that left on FA, for the low cap and term Detroit can afford to give out. Anyways, my who cents. Thx for listening & LGRW! #believe
I don't understand our fan base. This free agency has been fine. We're better set for the future by not signing these insane contracts. Nashville is behaving as if they are in win now mode, those contracts will hurt them 2 years from now. No the kids aren't gonna come in and set the nhl on fire. We may have some regression, but we had to get these kids in the line up at some point.
And yet when Yzerman did spend last offseason on some questionable contracts, we were also told to just trust the Yzerplan. It kind of sounds like people are just going to defend whatever he does.
@@jonathanmoody390it's year 6 bro, and you want to sign old ass men and keep our prospects in the minors. You literally are asking to push the rebuild further. Get the kids in the fucking show already so we can get better in the future. Who cares if we are ass this year? We aren't winning a cup with Stamkos, Roy, or Marchessault, why waste the roster spot and cap hit?
@@camsinr Marchessualt was a good contract. Stamkos was overpaid, but he also averages 40 goals a year. As it sits currently there are a lot of holes. Yes, year 6! And we're not sniffing the playoffs. That's a problem because we're stuck in purgatory. Not bad enough to get high-end first rounders, but not good enough to acquire serious assets.
@@jonathanmoody390Look, if you guys want to see some of our young guys in the lineup. Then we can't keep going after older Vets or signing some guys to 7yr deals. I get it, I would like to have a star player myself. But we have young prospects we have to start playing. We also have to lock up Seider and Raymond.
We still have to work around the cap for years to come. A lot of my hopefuls were overpaid in FA. Yzerman didn't draft and develop players in GR only to trade all of them... my only disappointment from yesterday that the Trouba deal didn't materialize. Sounded like he didn't want to go to the Wings.
I don't feel they did get better on the margins. We lost Perron, Ghost, Reimer, and Walman in this offseason and replaced them with Gustafson and Talbot. I don't think Talbot's that much of an upgrade over Reimer considering the Wings had a much worse defense than the Kings. I think Gustafson is a clear downgrade to Ghost. I don't mind bringing back Fischer, but to answer your question about what I wanted in balancing young guys and veterans, I wanted a top 6 forward, a top 4 right D, and then fill the rest of the holes with callups. With the Gustafson signing though, we're back to 5 LD in Chiarot, Edvinsson, Gustafson, Maatta, and possibly Johansson. On the right we have Seider, Petry, and Holl. As good as Seider is, that's a hell of a drop-off after him.
Gost and Walman were terrible defensively. Gust is an upgrade defensively. Johansson is a defensive defenseman. He might help out. We’ll see. Yzerman stated that team defense must improve. Detroit also upgraded nets and is a better defensive team than a year ago.
@@TheUtube53you must be high. This team is just as bad as last year. Possibly worse. The only hope this teams got is that our youth is ready to make the jump. Looks like several rookies will be in the lineup. Crash and burn or conquer and rise. It's on them now.
@@TheUtube53 2 questions, 1 who's the first best? And what makes ours the second. Imo our pipelines worth is inflated. Bunch of solid players but nothing earth shattering. I hate it but lack of lottery luck killed this team.
Obviously, the deals are not finished. Yzerman decided that the trade route was the smarter way to improve the club after hearing what his targets were going to get. He was not going to give Stamkos 8M over 4 years. Marchessault would have been a possibility for what he got, but he chose Nashville. Roy was an overpayment, Stephenson was an overpayment. Here's what I'm seeing: A full off-season with Kane working with linemates should equal or improve his stats. Ghost was huge on the PP, but a liability defensively 5 on 5. Gustafsson should improve the defensive aspect and could help on the PP. Edvinsson is an improvement at LD. Johansson is ready to step in and often was talked about as the most important player at GR. Walman was scratched last year a couple times before he got hurt. Like bringing back Fischer. Perron was great in the locker room, but took far too many stupid penalties in the 3rd period last year. The hope is that a Berggren could make up for the offensive aspect of Perron's game and is faster to help on the defensive end. Getting Rasmussen back should help with the net front. Mazur and Kasper should get a shot to help out. What I see possibly happening: Husso and at least one LD either traded or bought out. I could also see someone like Fabbri packaged, mainly because he is making $4M a year, and as it looks will probably be a 4th liner. Yzerman shipped out Kostin last year because he was making $2M on the 4th line. If Copp is traded, they will have to retain some salary. Could see Detroit being in on Necas,, Zegras or Laine. (That's my preference in order). Defensively, they should be better. Still need to find some offense.
I'm with you on this, with pretty much everything. I'd MUCH rather bring up the young guns and regress a little, than sign aging FAs to barely squeak into the playoffs. Are people forgetting our prospects have to play in the NHL at some point? How does signing a 35 year old center help us in the future? Bring up the kids and I'll take missing the playoffs. Sign a bunch of aging guys to albatross deals like our fans want, then we better win the fuckin Cup or it's all for nothing, and actively hurts our prospects.
No issue with staying quiet day 1. Obviously there will be a larger than thought influx from Grand Rapids. Kaspar, Danielson, Mazur, Ed and Johannsson certainly get the call. It lines up with the signings to replenish the Griffins. Let the kids play and gain experience. There is definitely going to be a step back in points but the experience gained and money saved for next season will be well worth it in the long run.
It was either go big or do very little IMO. Obviously the go big didn’t play out. I’m ok with bringing up a bunch of guys from GR next year. Better than overspending on middle of the road players like we’ve been doing.
With these moves Detroit not playoff team. But as a fan i like the idea not making big signings now. Let youth develope and see what you got. Next year big free agency and aim for playoffs. This year let youth develope and stay competitive, if during trade deadline somehow over playoff line then make few trades. People are so much in rush with this rebuild😂
"in a rush" bro it's year 6 and we haven't made the playoffs not once, and don't sell me that 10 year to rebuild bs. When we got Yzerman, I expected better.
@@jonathanmoody390 do you want to get in playoffs only or win cup? Bcs playoffs you can get this year ez. Just burn all 1 + 2 round picks and go all in. Yzerman is bringing cup to detroit in 3-5 years with this slow progress💪🏽have some faith bro
@@MegaerajormaYzerman has more or less lit his second round picks on fire considering none of them have done anything in the NHL. I don’t believe that any of the prospects currently in the system will be difference makers. They all appear to be solid players but none of them appear to have high end upside especially the forward group and Larkin is not getting any younger.
@@trentthurow5696 so you need high end prospects like buffalo or utah has? 😄 or maybe toronto is better example of your drafting high end talent? not neccesarily a good argument in my opinion. Yes you need talent but Detroit has already one of the deepest prospect pool of nhl. Just chill, analyze florida, st louis and vegas and trust prosess.
Chandler got about 6.5 mil. for about 60 points. Wings would've had to pay over 7 mil. by the time the dust settled. The haters would have sccreamed about paying for crazy contracts. So hate if you sign...hate if you dont.
What are we waffling about here, people? We already knew some young guys had to make an impact this year. So now instead of two rookies we might need to play three. I'm in, I'm not considering Berggren and Edvinsson "rookies". We know they're ready for the NHL. So there's Johansson, Mazur, and Kasper. Yeah, there's no way to know how good they'll be. But the plan for the season didn't change. You're all freaking out because we didn't get that one superstar to solve all of our problems. You know what would actually solve our problems? Lalonde gets this team to play a consistent and effective style of hockey. Behind that better defense, we get just serviceable goaltending from three serviceable guys. Kane is just as good or better after his first good summer of training in a long time. Several other forwards like Copp, Rasmussen, Fabbri and Compher chip in a little more. Raymond, Larkin, and DeBrincat haven't even better season, which they easily all could. *shrug* Already knew this is what needed to happen, even if they added Stamkos or Guentzel. The only thing that kinda sucks is losing Perron. Thought he'd be willing to take a little less than 4 to stay here.
Folks don't want to say it, but it's looking like both Steve Yzerman and Scott Harris are likely being restricted in contracts they can give out due to ownership.
@@OurFamilyInMotion Because flexibility is important in cap management. Very rarely does a FA who gets a long term deal play up to the level they were at when the got the deal throughout the duration of the contract. Smart GMs limit the sizeable long term deals primarily to their high end homegrown talent. Hence why Larkin got 8 years and why Mo/Raymond likely will as well. Notice Harris had no issue handing term to Colt Keith and likely will look to do the same with Riley this offseason as well.
The math probably doesn’t work, but a Necas trade is still possible. Although, the rumors aren’t there. Last summer, it was all but a certainty that DeBrincat was coming to Detroit. I think Detroit’s signings can be graded at a Meh- . However, I think Yzerman is still going to make moves.
Look at the price of all the big names out there. Everyone would have crucified yzerman if he handed out one of those contracts. There is still trade possibilities out there.
I want to do people realize CAM TALBOT is the first goaltender that was an All-Star the previous season that the Red Wings have signed in the off-season since Dominik Hasek in 2002?!😅.. that's just WILD when you think about it..
We need to bring up the kids. Cannot keep them in AHL forever. Time is now. Next summer is when we will have 10-12M in cap space that we can make a splash Too many old vets this summer
I feel like the red wings are kinda like the back to work pistons at this point. They're good enough to win but will they. Nothing real flashy but maybe the plan is to jump off the team takes off and catch teams looking to unload to really make a leap forward. All the moves are good. They improve the team. That's all I ever ask is make the team better without spending the bank. Also not unloading the farm system.
This has gotten pretty crazy. It's not relying on just youth. We still have NHL caliber stars on the team. Larks could score 100 points, he's capable. Seider could makes major steps forward and Edvinsson will slot in and be our second best Defensemen. Patrick Kane is healthy and could score 80+ points. DeBricant could score 40 goals. Berggren I know is going to light it up if he plays heavy minutes on the 2nd or 3rd line. This is virtually the same team as last year. If they didn't fall off a cliff at the very end, they would've easily made the playoffs. For the first half of the season, they were among the highest scoring teams in the league. For a month or two, they were #1. Red Wings fans RELAXXX! I know we're all so impatient to see playoff hockey but we've improved year over year. The weak spot is still GLARINGLY our defense, not the goaltending. I'm hoping he fleeces one trade before the season starts to bolster the blueline. I'd even be okay with waiving Petry of Holl to try and send them down. They are truly awful. We have no clue what's going to happen yet, chill. You would think the world is melting down.
Brian stop the rant please, your point is well made. Yzerman did good by avoiding the manic spending of FA. Remember there is still a trade market. Some of these bad contracts will come home to roost.
In my opinion we need a 2nd line center a top 6 winger and a reliable D man im glad that he didn't over pay i like stam but not at 8 mil per year we have a log jam in GR it's time to bring them up and see what we really have and see if they are good or its time to move them out
I honestly believe Nate Danielson will eventually be our 2nd line center. His game is very similar to Larkin's. He played pretty damn good in the pre season last year. People are sleeping on this guy.
Yzerman has realized that the market is just too pricey. I think he’ll take the trade route to acquire either a top 4 D or top 6 wing. Shane Pinto requested a trade yesterday, though Ottawa probably not looking to trade another wing to DET. The top 6 is really a conundrum at this point though. Kane is great but who do you put on that line? Where does he slot? I don’t really think the Cat - Larkin - Kane line works that well but there’s not many options. Kasper works his butt off and Kasper - Compher - Kane could be a solid 2nd line.
I like the goaltending better than last year. Talbot’s numbers are good. Don’t remember him frequently being injured historically. Two years isn’t that bad. Might trade out Husso’s contract hopefully or waive him. Don’t think anyone would claim Campbell so could send him to GR if it isn’t a one way deal.
If we want to sign Raymond and Seider to long term deals, we only have about $5m-$6m wiggle room. I think every redwings fans would rather sign those contracts than any of the free agents signed yesterday. We weren’t getting Stamkos anyways. A full season of Kane and post Larkin injury Raymond … A full season of Edvinsson… hopefully a full season of a starting goalie. We could easily be slightly to much better in all areas without crippling ourselves. And maybe we can trade holl and a goalie and make more moves still.
This off season isn't about getting better. It's about bringing the kids up and not taking a huge step back. I like the Talbot signing. He's cheap and dependable. He is older, but his career average Save percentage is .913, which is the same as his percentage this season. He is a known quantity. I would rather sign Talbot to this contract than throw a ton of money at a true #1 when we aren't ready for real playoff success. Detroit will miss Perron on the Power Play. He was great along the boards and close to the net. Maybe the hope is that Berggren can fill that void on the PP. The biggest hope is that Edvinsson and Albert Johansson can really step up and play well to improve team defense, especially with the loss of Walman. Yzerman really needs to move at least one of their surplus defense contracts and that's what I would expect to see happen this summer before next season. That may be a trade or a buyout.
I am content with what we have done in free agency so far as long as there is something still brewing, no word yet on the trouba trade or nechas, I haven't seen him signing with Carolina yet and they made a lot of signings yesterday
I think it is pretty unfair to assess things now. That Trouba trade hold up really messed things up. That could’ve helped if a bad contract was shipped back. That situation handcuffed both the Rangers and us from an early splash. Seen possible scenarios where it was Trouba and Kakko possibly. Wouldn’t be opposed to that. But, Trouba if the Wings haven’t washed their hands of the situation pushes other moves to the right time wise. Ekblad could be in play too. Patience might be in order to fully evaluate here.
So over paying for aging pieces is a better option? Look im not happy with this team’s lack of a true superstar, however free agency is where teams go to die. All these teams that spent big got “better” but in a year or two these contracts that these teams just shoveled out to mediocre aging players will age like milk.
It' s obvious no top.notch free agent was coming here. Who they signed was did not amount to much and right now on paper the roster is weaker than last summer. Sure they signed Kane but despite his comeback last season can he hold up over a full schedule? His camp likely saw the lack of enthusiasm for him so he stayed. What they lost in trades and free agents leaving is more of a problem.
Kane and Talbot are good signings. The rest were like shopping at the Dollar store.......bought a lot of stuff but not much is quality. These signings represent a great opportunity for the "young guns" to win a job with the Wings. I hope this was Steve's intent.
If you include Raymond, JFV, And Berggren, the Wings have 11 forwards. You are talking about one spot that a rookie could take. Maybe they sign someone, maybe they trade for someone, maybe its 1 rookie. Why are we talking like there will be 10 rookies on this team? There are 9 NHL D signed and 4 NHL Goalies. I feel like a trade is coming, but even if it doesn't, this isn't a rookie laden roster.
In case nobody has figured it out yet, Steve is an ultra-conservative GM. I would be absolutely shocked to ever see any big splash moves from him going forward until the Wings are in their contention window...
Even if the Trouba deal goes through and we manage to offload at least Holl (probably a separate deal), we would get more physical and the blue line would be better, but where do the goals come from?
@@NoahProGamer Berggren has had a 15 goal season so offense wise I think he covers that. Might be hoping Kane’s mentorship gives him a bump like Raymond saw.
I'm in the minority. I hope we get Trouba. The guy can put up points and he's a physical Defenseman. Having him, Seider and Edvinsson would be very interesting. But NY would have to eat some of his contract. I heard that there is a deal in place but Trouba is holding out on it. He may even be put on waivers.
Do you guys work for the Red Wings PR or something? Yzerman is betting it all on the young kids at a time when we NEED to make the playoffs. It usually takes a few years with kids so them getting worse this year would be completely unacceptable in year 6. People just seem to blindly defend whatever he does because of his past success as a player. I did the same thing for a few years before I woke up that he's simply not that good as a GM.There were players out there: Marchessault - solid winger, cup winner,30-40 goal scorer and Lyubushkin and Chychrun on defense could have added some toughness they desperately need. Totally underwhelming offseason and I don't see what big move is out there at this point? I also don't get why Kane would resign unless Yzerman told him he was adding more pieces.
Kane demanded to get Veleno traded if he was to sign an extension. Because of Joe disturbing Kane's celly in ot in Chicago. Kane signed just days after Joe was handed to Sharks. 💯
I'm really ok with relying heavily on our youth because I'd like to see were we are with them finally see how they can be than just signing a butt load of veterans. We're not in a cup window anyway. Just take a risk and see how they'll do
I wish he would got a good RD, but it wasnt in the cards. He didnt overpay for any of those guys. Stammer and Guentzal weren't getting that amount here. The others either weren't interested or just too expensive. I think what we did and didnt do was fine. Imo, either we take a step back with a youth movement or a big trade is fine. It would be nice to see if Mazur, Kasper, Soderblom, etc on the ice for us. I was not happy with the Walman deal, but if u look at the roster, there is still not a lot of room for many more forwards or defense on the roster. Unless we trade, buyout, or waive Fabri, Petry, Holl, Copp, Maata etc we only have 1 roster spot on the ice for forwards, that includes Bergers. We also still have 8 d on the active roster with Gustafson signing and Edvinson and Johanson. We also have 4 goaltenders. So we have a serious roster problem until some of these things are settled. I understand Campbell is prob AHL, but another season with 3 tenders on the active roster.
Its not a whiff when only 2 of the contracts handed out for players we could have used were palatable. Those players could have been offered the same deals but said no to detroit as well. Id rather not participate at these prices, let the kids rip, maybe take a step back, maybe another crack at the top 10 and go from there. Sucks to write it off but do we really want to fuck our cap space more than it already is? We are okay with that to scrape into playoffs?
But why waste money on the 6 or 7 players yzerman signed..when probably only 2 of them even crack the roster...seems like he could of saved that money to bring in a bigger name that could of made an impact
I’m not upset that Yzerman couldn’t get a good deal from these free agents, I’m upset that he cap dumped Walman with an asset for no reason. If he wasn’t going to get deals from the market, then what’s the point of dumping Walman?
To free up cap space. I don't get the obsession with Walman. He's not a All Star Defenseman. His type of production can be replaced. Edvinsson will probably play full time this year. We have to resign our key guys.
Time to get the kids on the ice finally. Free agents rarely work out. They just become bad contracts. Look at Copp…way too much money, way too long of a contract, and Stevie is probably still trying to dump him.
What I want is for us to have signed one more top six forward and zero bottom six. Let the kids play in the bottom six but I do not want to watch another carousel of trying to figure out who that fourth winger is in the top lines
Anyone still blindly defending Yzerman and the Yzerplan please take your beer goggles off. The cope is hard for a lot of fans for this team. We waited 5 years for yesterday and we GOT WORSE. 😂
Detroit has a lot of young guys coming up. Detroit signed a bunch of 1-2 year contracts. I don’t think Detroit is actually better this year. But more like more roster space available. Over the next 1-2 years.
Their definitely worse offensively with no Ghost or Perron. Defensively I don't see how they're better without Walman they're probably about the same. Goaltending marginally better.
Everyone here must've forgot what Ken Holland did to detroit before steve took over. But yea Stevie Y is uh, bad I guess . Our fan base looks like Toronto now
Guys discussion today guys. Let's hope that SY has a trade in mind with another GM or 2, that all realize and agree that overspending on FA players is not as wise as waiting for a trade in a few weeks.
Stevie-Y carries goalies on Deck like the average Men's League captain😂.. .. " hey Can (Talbot) can you play net tonight Alex (Lyon) isn't feeling well..
Drink the Yzerman coolaid boys, 10 years to cleanup Holland's mess...c'mon. Let's talk about Yzerman the Wings GM not the Wings player or TB GM. Yzerman gets a pass on everything
I am not feeling like we are getting better. I feel like Nashville is getting better. Wtf is really going on here? Kane is great. But who is replacing David?
@_Kakoosh talbot's numbers were heavily boosted by playing in LA's defense heavy system. Look at his numbers with ottawa and you'll see exactly what we are in for
@Around-the-fur__ prospects don't walk into the nhl and set the world on fire. I watched a lot of griffins hockey last year. Kasper and mazur aren't walking in and putting up 40 point seasons. Edvinsson will be good but can't handle the workload walman endured through most of last year. Johansson and berggren HAVE to be on the roster or you lose them to waiver claims
I am glad we didn't throw out money like it's candy. We addressed goal tending again so hopefully it's better than last year. We added some defense so hopefully that will help our tandem, whoever it may be. Am disappointed we didn't address our scoring problem
Detroit has the #2 prospect pipeline but nobody wants to play the kids. What? We are not close to beating the Florida Panthers. Yzerman wants an improvement on team defense. Detroit is a better defensive team today than a year ago. That is the goal or Newsy is gone. It’s ok to play the kids and miss the playoff. It’s a rebuild.
We didn't get better at all we 8.5 mil in 4 Goalies that r avg at best WTF we did not need another left hand defense he a cheaper version of walman makes know sense. You keep your 2 worse defense Holl and Petry. You got Kane and Fisher back with is great but know else. Steve has put this team farther behind with not sign good FA the last 3yrs. The only thing he has done good is drafting. I think it time to stop giving Steve a pass
I think if he doesn't pull off the Trouba and Kakko trade we will inevitably take a small step back. It's unfortunate but we have to be real. Lalonde doesn't want the kids to play and Stevie isn't key on it either. Let's be honest...his drafts haven't been that great outside of the first rounds.
free agency so far has been a giant disappointment... let's hope there is still a trade or two in the works because at this point, the Wings roster is worse than last year and a lot of other teams got a lot better... trust the yzerplan? not anymore... he needs to sell us on the yzerplan... that grace has worn out...
"Yeah, I know you built a team that improved in points every single year, and I know you're still bogged down by contracts Holland signed, and I know you operate under one of the penny pinchiest ownership groups in the league, but you still need to really prove to me, the most specialest important boy in the whole wide world, that you know what you're doing" what a clown world you people live in.
Overpaid for Andrew Copp just horrible... Why is that being excused???? Lets not overpay Stamkos but we will sign Copp to too much money hahahaha we are a joke bro
Complete bust of a free agency. Theres no one they can sign now that will move the needle. The only hope we have now is something via trade. 🤦🏻♂️ Not only that, but everyone in our division leveled tf up! So we just went from borderline playoff team, to last place in our division real quick. Yzerman fumbled the puck hard on this one. 💯 Also, Cam Talbot is not an upgrade. Cam got an immense amount of help due to LA's style of defensive hockey, and Detroit has zero defense outside of Mo Seider. 🤷🏻♂️
The way FA went, any signing would move the needle of making the playoffs the next 2 year, followed by Cap Issues that bring you back to mediocrity. Wings are looking to build for meaningful + long playoff runs, not just this year. The ones that spent so high are nearing the end of their windows.
Another disappointing FA and more of the same trust the process talk. Sometimes you need to spend money or over pay if you want to get out of a rut... What player wants to play in Detroit with this horse crap roster
mine i drew up was: DeBrincat Larkin Raymond Kane Compher Berger Ras Danielson Kasper Fischer Veleno Copp Fabbri gets moved or 13thd, Kids are too good Simon, Seider Chariot, Johannsson Gustafsson, Petry Maata, 4 Goalies now, I could see Husso out and Lyon, Talbot, and Campbell doing what Lyon did this year fighting for a Job. should be fun! Steve's not done boys. LGRW!!!
every big name free agent player was looking for a 5-10 yr long contract deal between 5-9 million aav and Steve yzerman is no dummy besides the few contracts the team is already dealing with why put this team in financial trouble with new players when we got a plethora of young capable players in the system already to fill positions! 🤷♂️🤔🫤👍
