The Red Wings rode an incredible goaltending performance to their first win of the season. Shutting out the Nashville Predators on a 42 save performance from Calm Talbot. The defense in front of him did do a nice job of blocking shots and limiting high danger opportunities in front of him as well, even if the volume is a concern. Edvinsson, Seider, Holl and Ajo all stood out. Compher, Copp and Larkin were the goal scorers. On Sunday, due to an injury to Fischer, Husso was waived. #LGRW

Johansson looked good and holl was a pleasant surprise. I still think we need to improve on defense because no way Talbot can do that multiple games in a row. What a game though loved watching it.

Minus Talbots shutout. Mo has looked amazing. With Assist, PP, blocked shots, and hits. This is the evolution of Seider. Hopefully the rest of the D keeps improving.

If Petry takes a roster spot from Holl away, I’m convinced that Lalonde has a man crush on Petry or something. He is a 7th defencmen that you only play if all other 7th defencmen are mysteriously killed off by a meteor.

Petry has experience and that's tough to replace. He has a laser of a shot and will hit. I think people need to relax about him...the Wings have done much worse but I don't hear folks complaining about those things.

Think he wants him in locker room he is Detroit man Michigan man - but yea he should be in and out of lineup at best - I do get that he played well with Simon last 10-14 game or so last year but obviously it’s not going to stick I expect them to try it again but it was nice to see them take action husso - waived - gustos sat - he’ll be fine I think. Just needs to be used right when has to get used to team he looked good but not better then MO did last night the first power play is insane and second has a chance they use need to find the mix and I really believe having MO and Kane qb that top power play is way to go for time being but it’s going to be changing allot - Raymond looks fantastic he could easily have 3-5 goals already - has 3 assists he’s legit love it but it’s going to take another 5-10 games to settle and and really see what we got here - the opening games don’t help but if we can come out of it 2-2 or 3/1 that’s great

They need to give Johansson opportunities to be on the powerplay. He had some opportunities in the preseason and he looked great as the PP quarterback. He was excellent on distributing the puck and has good shot (was clocked at 90+mph). He might be the surprise answer to take over from Ghost. Maybe not 57 points, but possible 40 points and stable defensive play if gets enough looks.

Did anyone else notice when they announced Husso and he skated out, there were a lot of boo’s? Unbelievable. I’ve heard so many interviews with goalies how difficult it is to get out of their own head, and here you have fans starting him off with negativity. Imagine the mental battle he’s already fighting. On top of that defense was atrocious. Most of the goals against were because D wasn’t even in their zones, one of which was because Petry was injured but the play continued so he couldn’t be in his zone. I like Lyon better than Husso, and Talbot is looking strong, but man I feel for Husso having to out on waivers like that. He didn’t deserve to be abandoned by his own defense against the Penguins.

I agree, booing your own players is some classless Maple Leaf fan crap. Be better than that Wings fans, especially to Goalies. Maybe Husso asked to be waived because he doesn't want to deal with it anymore, I wouldn't blame him actually.

Did you look at shot quality? Shot chart has over half the shots above the circles. Shots are a worthless stat and I don't even know why they track it on the scoreboard. Would you say the Preds defense was better since they gave up just 22 shots?

It’s not just about the shots against it’s about quality shots and the wings had more quality shots than the preds. They were getting desperate and just shooting every time they could

Talbot tied Sean Burke as only goalies to get shutouts with EIGHT DIFFERENT TEAMS. At 37, this is Cam's swan song year and he's highly motivated to go out on a high note. Husso's injuries have caught up with him and he probably won't see the NHL again.

Lyon finished last season with only 3 wins in his last 16 games, including a 10 game losing streak. Lyon got off to a great start then fell apart when the season was on the line. Not confident at all in him being the backup. I don't see how you can blame the Pittsburgh loss solely on Husso, the defense was atrocious and nonexistent at times. I think people have blown out of proportion how bad Husso was last year. He only had 5 regulation losses in the 19 games he played. One loss he had a .949 save % against Carolina, another a .927% against the Rangers. That's only 3 regulation losses with a sub .900 save percentage all year. I'm not saying he's perfect but you can't blame him for getting injured or use that to bash his skill level. He was 25-7-6 with a .919% for the Blues on a team that can actually play decent defense.

Husso has been letting in weak goals and he has been since his second season with us, he missed most of last year, this is his last year on his contract, cossa is looking good in GR, we dont need the liability, and husso with his injurys and letting in bad goals is a liability, yes our defense wasnt great, but its not the defense job to keep the puck out of the net, theres a reason you have a goalie, we need one who can really do the job.

@@Sonicthehedgefundmanager It is the defense job to keep the puck out of the net though, it is also the forwards responsibility to to their part. That's why Sprong isn't on the team anymore and was getting healthy scratched. Blaming the Penguins loss on Husso is stupid and fans did the same thing last year. Lyon at his worst was way worse than Husso at his worst, he was the one at the helm when the season went down the drain and he couldn't make a save. Wings media made Lyon out to be this hero who had this great season and you all drank their kool-aid. Reimer and him ended the season with the same save percentage.

@@danb239 NO it is not, it IS the goalies job, im not saying we have good defense, but it is NOT the defenses job to keep the puck out of the net, husso at times has reminded me of howard, where he lets in bad goals, where he’s not moving around the crease with any urgency, he’s slow motion, and it results in him being easy to score on, thats the actual problem, we need a goalie in there who is on high alert at all times, you cannot always put it on the defense, its easy to blame the defense cause they’re two and a goalie is one, but “bad defense” is not the problem here, it just isnt. There is a reason he got waived, yzerman isnt waiving a goalie he trusts.

@@Sonicthehedgefundmanager Yzerman waived him to clear a roster spot for a forward, Husso was the least likely to get claimed. He dosen't even have to go to GR and can stay with the team. Even if he does go it will probably only be for a few games to help get his confidence back. He will be back on the Wings at some point so might as well cheer for him instead of against him. If you think Lyon is any better then guy lost 10 in a row and had 3 wins in his last 16. His lateral movement is atrocious and he gets caught out of position, he is prone to collapse.

Every game they do bad i see them making poor clears. They just pass to no nobody instead of either absorbing a hit or trying to slow the game down
