As others have commented, you had the Ackermann geometry correct first time round. Your bellcrank on the bottom of the steering column will also add Ackermann angle. Right now I suspect you’ve gone back to near zero, the negative Ackermann being cancelled out by the positive from the bell crank. I thought I’d mention it now before you get too deep into it! Top work though, very nice fabrication! (Edit- someone down below has also pointed out that drift cars have their Ackermann reduced, because obviously on opposite lock it’s a handicap, so it might be just great as you have it right now!) I spent days and days on steering geometry on my soapbox car. I had the arms in front of the axle for legroom, and the large KPI I had to use to get the steering axis in the centre of the tyre (I wanted zero scrub radius because of the brakes) cancelled much of it out as the arms moved through their arc. I had to put a backwards bellcrank (because it’s in front of the axle) on the column to get it right again, so on my car the track rods cross over each other.

The steering shaft pivot being so far behind the spindles is going to be a problem. Yes Ackerman from the steering axis pivot through the tie rod pivot to the center point of the rear axle. But that's only if your steering pivots are right, whick they aren't at all. I would run a short tie rod from the steering shaft, forward under the engine to a bellcrank paralell to the bottom of the frame, that has the two point for the steering rods. The way it's set up now it's going to over center at full lock with any decent amount of angle.

The thing about Ackermann steering is, you got it right the first time. But because the steering shaft is angled back so much, any motion to the left or right in the rear steering shaft pivot is going to result in a lot more motion at the front steering shaft pivot, increasing as the angle between the rear steering shaft pivot and the front spindle increases, measured on the front steering shaft pivot, and decreasing as the angle decreases. Had you turned the wheel enough with the first design you might've locked up the steering as a tiny tweak to the right could have lined up the two steering shaft pivots with the spindle pivot. Before the remake on the steering I was going to comment that you probably wont need any extra offset on the steering mount in order to get Ackermann (with that setup it would give Ackermann steering with no angle on the steering bracket). Could be useful to layout this stuff in software or on scrap wood if you want an approximation. With a steering rack mounted so it lines up precisely with the outer steering pivots you'd angle the brackets inward as shown with your first design to get more Ackermann correct steering. TLDR: You'd get Ackermann steering no matter what, but normally the first design is what gives Ackermann steering with a normal setup.

Love all your builds and I really appreciate the fact that you guys prefer to make/fabricate your parts as needed instead of waiting on GO POWERSPORTS to make and supply 90% of your builds!!! So glad you guys aren’t simply throwing money at “off the shelf” parts.
