This is 8th grader Derek Rosa. On October 12, 2023 at around 11:30pm, Derek called 911 to confess something unimaginable and truly horrific for his age
His mom, Irena, was a 39-year-old postpartum mother who had given birth to Derek’s half-sister just two weeks prior to the murder. His baby sister remained in the crib, undisturbed by this life changing event. When police arrived, he surrendered peacefully. He was afraid that the police were going to kill him, and he was seemingly apologetic about what he had done. When law enforcement officers entered the home, they found Irena’s deceased body on the ground near her daughter’s crib. The baby was still asleep in the crib, unaware that her mother had been stolen from her after only two weeks of life, or that her older brother was the one holding the knife.
