I was in the 6.9 quake in California, in 1989. My Dad took me to the World Series game between the Oakland A's and SF Giants, at Candlestick Park in San Francisco. We were on the bottom level, dodging pieces of the levels above as debris fell. Once outside the park, we saw cars literally _turning in their parking spaces_ in the smaller aftershocks. The Embarcadero bridge that we'd usually take home was destroyed, as was a third of the three parallel Caldecott tunnels we use to get home, normally. It took a full day to reach home, 40 miles from the game. My prayers to you, Taiwan, and those who have family affected by this massive earthquake. The devastation they bring is mind blowing.

So sorry to hear this happened and all that devastation. That landslide!

There was an earthquake in Taiwan🇹🇼 today. I was writing my homework at that time. Suddenly, items were dropping. We hid under the table. Thank goodness no one got hurt.Although the earthquake didn’t cause too much damage in my city, the epicenter which is at Hualien had nine people lost their lives😢 I wish the earthquake won’t happen again. Praying for the people in Hualien😔

My condolences to the affected Taiwanese 🇹🇼 who have enjoyed as a country: - freedom of speech, - freedom of press, - free elections, - a good economy, and - good relations with Western countries. China 🇨🇳 has none of those things.

On Wednesday, Taiwan experienced its most severe earthquake in at least 25 years, claiming the lives of seven individuals and leaving over 700 injured. Among the affected, 77 individuals found themselves trapped within tunnels and collapsed structures. Why are the buildings not all earthquake resistant, earthquakes are routine there, at least 3 every century, makes more sense to support the people there with resilient infrastructure than preserve dangerous unsuitable old buildings ✌️❤️🇬🇧

This is 7.4 earthquake and it is very strong already. Last 2013 Philippine earthquake is 7.6 to 7.8. The earthquake is so stroke that the road open up and cars fall inside.

All flights to and from Japan’s Naha Airport on Okinawa island have resumed after a tsunami warning issued for the area was downgraded, the airport's spokesperson Hideaki Tsurudo told CNN on Wednesday. Okinawa was impacted by small tsunami waves under 30 centimeters (11 inches) following the earthquake in Taiwan, resulting in flights to be suspended. But no waves reached the airport and it was thereby reopened, according to Tsurudo. No casualties or damage have been reported in Japan following the 7.4 magnitude earthquake in Taiwan, according to Japanese Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshimasa Hayashi. The quake triggered tsunami warnings in Japan, but early reports show the first tsunami waves to be small, under 30 centimeters (11 inches), on the southern Japanese island of Okinawa. But Hayashi, speaking at a press conference, said the second and third waves generated by the quake are expected to be bigger. The tsunami warnings for Japan have been downgraded to an advisory, he said. Still, Hayashi advised people in affected areas to remain on higher ground. The first waves were forecast to hit from 8:33 a.m. local time until 10:33 a.m. on Wednesday (8:33 p.m. to 10:33 p.m. ET on Tuesday). People in the coastal areas across the provinces of Batanes Group of Islands, Cagayan, Ilocos Norte and Isabela have been “strongly advised to immediately evacuate to higher grounds or move further inland,” according to the advisory. All staff and personnel have evacuated to the third floor in anticipation of the tsunami's impact, Hideaki Tsurudo said, adding that no waves have reached the airport in the timeframe of the warning.
