The Camp Lejeune Justice Corrections Act is a critical piece of legislation that will impact thousands of Veterans and their families who have suffered the effects of contaminated water supply at Camp Lejeune. The original Camp Lejeune Justice Act was passed within the historic PACT Act of 2022. Since then, an abysmal 53 out of the 175,000 claims submitted have been settled-just 0.03%. The Camp Lejeune Justice Corrections Act aims to prevent further delays of justice for the victims by affirming their right to jury trials, setting fair attorney fees, and expanding the jurisdiction for these cases to alleviate the backlog.
This webinar provides a comprehensive understanding of the bill, its implications, and the steps Veterans Organizations can take to support its passage. We are joined by a panel of experts who will be presenting and answering questions at the end of the webinar. We were joined by: Representative Deborah Ross (D-NC-2), one of the bill's co-sponsors, two victims of the toxic exposure sharing their stories, and a legal expert to help answer legal/technical questions.

Thanks for the information and most of all, to Senators Murphy, Ross and the cosponsors. The Camp Lejeune Community is behind this and shows growing support from a constituency vantage point.

The Corps knew about this since the 1990s. I read about the contamination from an article in the VFW mag. I have filed 4 claims to no effect. Filling out form after form through the VA local office. Now to have to wait again, this time my Marine husband has passed in 2019 with pancreatic cancer. We had 2 children on base (early 1968 thru late 1970) and living in New River Air Station for 2 years. Many other health issues we experienced through the years. Leukemias, skin cancers, autoimmune disorders, etc. Being in my 70s and have to relive the issues again and again, is hard. I have a lawyer filing my husbands and my claim also. Waiting Again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

They knew about it in the 1950's. They don't care about us. Just waiting for us to die.

The pact act has been a disaster for the Camp Lejeune toxic water contamination.

Yeah these abulance chasers are raking in 40% of a settlement. I want to know why we can't be given a monetary amount without having to give almost half of it to a lawyer.

The VA should pay your lawyers fees.

I have no issue with giving attorneys their due - but when the majority of the information for the suits is provided by the “client”, and most of that can’t be verified because of the medical records “aging out”, it’s a major problem that should have been in the original legislation!!!

They need to get rid of the deadline

I agree that the deadline must be extended or removed altogether. There is no rational reason why there needs to be a deadline at all. Even the 9/11 victims have 2090 as their deadline. That should be the case here. Enough with fake hurdles that just cause anxiety and more suffering. I would also ask that any payment made be exempt from capital gains taxes when invested. This makes up for the fact that no punitive damages can be awarded (also irrational) and the long period of waiting for justice, over 70 years in some cases.

Why is the focus in Camp Lejeune when Schreiver AFB PFAS was over 870K parts per trillion. The highest of any location. Many veterans have died not knowing what killed them.

According to Sen Dan Sullivan, Alaska, and the US AG, the Federal Tort Claims Act caps the fees at 20% for administrative claims and 25% for going to court. Is this correct?

Im very confused about this. I only hear want the lawyer's want you to do. I was at Camp Lejeune from 1975 to 1977. I have several things wrong with me. I am in my 4th year of remission of squamous cell carcinoma of the nasal pharanyx. I was also exposed to burn pits. fire fighting foam and AFFF agent, exposed to oil fires during gulf war. The cancer treatment both chemo and radiation left me with a feeding tube and a throat opening the size of a pea. I have no salivatory glands and ended up with stage 3 kidney disease. Not to mention neurological problems and bacterial infections in my spine. I am rated 100% permanently disabled by the VA. I am being told that if I filed a case with a lawyer and won any money the VA would deduct that amount from my disability pay and rating could be reduced. I don't understand why I can't sue over the fact that they KNOWINGLY POISENED ME!

I've been out since 88. I developed rash from 1987 visit at Lejeune. Passed off as heat rash. One solid year. Would it be worth a shot at Lawfirm. (Chronic rash) Bladder difficulties, swollen lymph nodes in and off.

So the Camp Lejeune Justice Corrections Act is a proposed item and is not set in stone, from my understanding. The biggest hurdle is that August deadline for filing anything - that MUST be extended. Far too many affected people do not know this is even happening.

Every civilian family member exposed to that base needs health care. It should NOT matter whether they slept off base or on base. Right now, CLFMP excludes anyone who slept off base. It does not matter if you were exposed for years or if you were sick from it. This is absolutely wrong and outrageous. None of the CLJA victims with valid claims should have to spend anything on health treatments.

The VA should at a minimum, test everyones blood. I had to pay for my own blood test and doctors examinations. I was made homeless because the VA denied me benefits.

The comment about the Corrections Act becoming a bad thing because it will make the attorney fee cap unreasonable - nice way to try to put the fear in people that no one will represent them because it's not financially worth the time. :( Use the slush funds out there that our government uses all of the time to cover things and help these men and women. It gets me so angry. My Dad died for what? It's like a kick in the teeth. :( :( :(

The benefits should be tax free because it is like life insurance and only makes up for a fraction of what you have lost for your country.
