Join us as we camped at Manatee Springs near Chiefland, Florida. We were in site #80 and we think it was one of the best ones. We biked and swam in the springs. You will even learn how to remove ticks and how to setup a primitive porta potty.

Thanks for sharing this video. I just reserved a site at Manatee Springs. I always carry a specialized tick removal tool in my first aid kit. I hate ticks! I spray our camping clothes every season with Permethrin and use Picaridin or Deet too. I know five people who have had Lyme disease.

Fun times watching you two as usual and thanks for sharing. I found The Tick nippers are by far the best tool to remove those little blood suckers especially when they are attached.

We camp here every year and yes, there are a lot of ticks. The best time to go here is November to February. There are less ticks because it's colder. And now the boardwalk is now open as of a couple weeks ago.
@GloriousDayAdventures

Good to know about the time of year. I didn't realize ticks don't like the cold. Glad the boardwalk is back open.

It was hard watching you guys struggle. Just a few tips, tweezers for ticks go deep and get the head. Don't waste your time with the other stuff. For swimmers ear, take isopropyl alcohol, fill the ear canal, then turn head and let it drain. It will clear your ear up within 30 seconds.

The best thing for ticks is a tick remover that pulls the whole tick out so it doesn't get infected. But yes, tweezers are the best option if it's all you have. And at manatee springs you should try to use tick spray for sure. In the summer this place is full of ticks. Reason we like Fort Wilderness because they spray for ticks
@GloriousDayAdventures

Since then, I have bought a tick remover that we are keeping on the camper. Good thing we haven't had to use it yet.

Have you tried spraying your shoes, socks, clothes and camp rugs and chairs with Permethrin? It will stop (reduce) ticks from crawling up on you. There are low dose Permethrin sprays for skin also but you may want to try taller socks treated with Permethrin rather than spraying yourselves. Light colored clothes, particularly socks make seeing the ticks easier which makes it easier to notice them.
@GloriousDayAdventures
@GloriousDayAdventures 2 года назад
We have some Permethrin but haven’t thought about putting on the chairs and rug. Thanks for the idea!

I use the cat litter method as well Just for solids and change it right after and throw it in the trash or if no trash disposal is available i have a bucket with lid that I store the sealed waste bags in till I can dispose of it. Urine is a simple matter men go wherever they want and women have several choices.

I am also interested in the runaway camper option....affordable and not sleeping on the ground. All kidding aside....you guys are doing great with your channel.....I just subscribed and look forward to your travels. Take care!!

I’ve seen your videos before and enjoy them. We were planning to camp here in April. It’s beautiful but I don’t do ticks well. 😂 Do you recommend any other state park with springs that is also dog friendly but doesn’t have the ticks? 😅
@GloriousDayAdventures
@GloriousDayAdventures Год назад
Most/all state parks are dog friendly but you cannot brings dogs any where around the spring area. I'm hoping they do something at Manatee Springs to help with the ticks. Maybe it was the time of year we were there? There are a lot of other springs that have camping but we liked this one because the spring was walking distance from the campsite. We were just at Blue Springs, north of Orlando. They had a nice spring area you could walk to from the campground.

OK, I have to ask how the bucket toilet worked out and what kind of bags were you using with it?
@GloriousDayAdventures

The bucket toilet actually worked pretty well but we had to change the bag fairly often cause it didn't hold much. We used the Double Doodie bags. The cheapest ones I could find were at Walmart.

Ear candling is a joke. 100% ineffective. Burning a candle on its own produces exacty the same amount of residue in the tube as it does if you stick the cnadle in youyr ear (or butt). Research it, you'll see. Gentle heat and the miniscule vacuum burning these candles creates could not possiby draw out any ear wax. If enough vacuum were present to actually work, you'd rupture your eardrum and literally no heat is transferred down the tube and into your ear canal from the fire; that's not how fire works. Ear drops work. Q-tips work (but be careful and know how to use them correctly).
