David travels to his own state of Tennessee to Natchez Trace State Park where he enjoys camping by Pin Oak Lake and tests a new awning provided by Hatchet Overland. After discovering all the trails have been shut down at Natchez he hits a local trail on his way home to test out the JKS manual sway bar disconnects and see how it makes a difference on the trail in preparation for his and Holly's trip to Wyoming to ride the WY BDR, about 1000 miles of off-road from North to South of the state.

Great video. I love my JKS disconnects on the our JLU. You were about 80 miles East of us. Stay safe!

Thanks HighPoint! 80 miles!! Wow, so close! Yeah this is the first time I have had manual disconnects. Not going to lie, although these were pretty easy to deal with, hitting the button sure was cool lol. however, I have heard a lot of rubs having issues with water issues with the electronic one, so one thing we know with the JKS is we can always get them back on lol. Thanks for watching!!

Great video! I used to have Teraflex quick disconnect’s, but it got old fast. I upgraded front and rear to Anti Rock’s and I am so happy. Surprised on how nice they are on road, especially on these crappy Ohio roads, and amazing off-road. No more getting under the Jeep to disconnect and reconnect. Especially in really muddy conditions.

I’m glad to hear you got some JKS disconnects. Even with the electronic system on my Rubicon I’m happy to have the JKS as a backup. I have done a lot of water crossings and no issues have appeared yet, but knowing I have the JKS system gives me peace of mind if it does start acting up.
@aMAYSingLife
@aMAYSingLife Год назад
That’s a great idea to have a backup but if the electronic disconnects but doesn’t reconnect the jks won’t help right? Or am I misunderstanding the setup
@matthewtaylor1039
@matthewtaylor1039 Год назад
@@aMAYSingLife I always have the ability to do away completely with the electronic system with a manual bypass, but if the electrical gets smoked with water intrusion it could leave me connected when I may want articulation. EVO manufacturing makes a manual bypass should the electrical go out. The JKS for me was just peace of mind knowing I’ll always have the option. I’ve also run some trails that articulation is nice and 4wd wasn’t necessary. The rubicon system will only engage the sway bar in 4wd.
@aMAYSingLife
@aMAYSingLife Год назад

Having done the entire length of the Natchez Trace by motorcycle (several years ago during the Summer), and camping the entire time, I thoroughly enjoyed a leisurely pace, stopping at the road side historical landmarks. But, it was extremely hot and humid and made the camping experience less than enjoyable. Looking forward to your upcoming Wyoming BDR series.

Yes, I have done the Natchez Trace by motorcycle as well. It is a nice leisurely paced ride. Natchez trace state park is west of the trace just off of I40 around mile 118 I think, something like that. Nice park but not what it used to be for off road riding anymore sadly.

@aMAYSingLife
@aMAYSingLife Год назад
@@Wrongwayadventures There is tent camping "primitive ish" available at Cub Lake but not Pin Oak. I say ish because there is still a I kind of wanted the view of Pin Oak this time so I elected to go ahead and pay the extra at Pin Oak. Cub Lake is cheaper than Pin Oak because it is more primitive but not sure how much. It does have Tent specific sites available. I also took an overnight hike one time on the Red Leaves Trail and camped along the way there (2.5 miles in i think is the requirement plus a permit).

Great video. I've been looking at the JKS disconnects and this was really helpful. Curious, what lift and tire/size are you running? The proportions look nice and it seems like a good blend of capability and practicality.
@aMAYSingLife
@aMAYSingLife Год назад
I have a couple statements here. Yes, the JKS disconnects are simple and for the money likely hard to beat. However, there are options available, be it at a higher price that I would prefer to have given the difficulty of getting them on and off (you really gotta be level). So depending on how often you go back and forth from connected to disconnected, it really is something to consider. I really like the ones (dont know brand) that never really physically disconnect but rather allow slide so the leveling isnt an issue. Apologize for not knowing brand, someone was telling me about them and they were like 900 so it went in and out the ears lol. i have a 2.5" AEV lift with geometry leveling and love that kit for the money. The tires I'm running in this video are Nitto Ridge Grapplers 285/75r17 and they measure right around 33.86 inflated. I'm running Toyo Open Country AT 3 now and have to say the ride is similar, maybe a little quieter with the Toyo's but I feel as though the Nitto's track a little better on road. However, the Toyo were 35 cheaper per tire but weighed a bit more. Both are 10.5" wide tires. As such I get outstanding road performance and so far still have never not been able to do anything I wanted to do off road. As soon as you roll up to 35" you have to go 12.5 wide so you add a lot of rolling weight (reduced mpg) and you only really gain about .5" to .75" of clearance. if you live for rock crawling, maybe you need it.. But that's not what I focus on. I still get about 23 mpg which puts my range at almost 400 on road and 330 off road (diesel). Everything you do to your vehicle from outside awnings to tires to lifts all degrades economy.

@@aMAYSingLife Thanks for all of that info. You actually touched on another thing I've been noodling on. I have a Sport S that I've been slowly building up so it's nice to see how things look and perform on the Willys. I have the Dynatrac 2" lift, which I've been really happy with. I have 285/70r17 Falken Wildpeaks, which I've also really liked, but they're about ready to be replaced. I'd like to go a tad taller, but for the same reasons you mention, I want to stick with the 285 width. I was actually looking at the 285/75r17 Toyo AT3 as well as their 35x11.5x17, which is close to the 285 width. Both are C-rated. I was looking at the Nitto Recon/Ridge/Terra Grapplers as well, but they are all E rated and I was worried they'd be too rough. Good to hear they feel similar, so perhaps I'll reconsider those. I'm up in VT so the 3 Peak rating of the AT3 and Terra Grapplers is appealing. I think the sway bar disconnects you're thinking of are the autoLYNX. They look amazing, but after some back and forth with them, we determined that I'd need a good bit more wheel backspace to avoid problems. I have AEV wheels and I like how they keep my tires [mostly] under the fenders. Didn't want to replace them or add spacers, so it seems they are off the table for me in their current form. Thanks again for the info! Super helpful.

How are you opening your jeep tailgate from the inside? Ps - i also have the goosegear tailgate table. Love it.
@aMAYSingLife
@aMAYSingLife Год назад
Part of the hatchet camper install includes a pull handle that is attached to the internal workings of the latch. Just remember if you lock your doors at night with remote the pull handle won’t open it, so you have to unlock it first. There is all a pull strap installed so you can shut the tailgate after you have close the window.. both are game changer for getting in and out of the jeep

With the Hatchet top, is it a complete hard top replacement like the Ursa Minor camper is or how does it work? I have a 2021 JL Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon with a factory hard top. I’m only about 2 hours away from Denver and am considering one.
@aMAYSingLife
@aMAYSingLife Год назад
They use your existing hard top by cutting a hole in it along with holes on each side that support it to the frame.. this is one reason it’s less expensive than an Ursa because they use the existing top. Since you can get a replacement top for about 1600 it’s really just savings to you until you decide to sell the jeep… given that you don’t really lose much if any fuel economy and it doesn’t make it louder, might as well just leave it on.. it also keeps the interior cooler. If you are only 2 hrs away, you should reach out and take a look at Ross’s jeep. Or you are welcome to contact me directly and I can answer further questions. Go to my website and fill out the contact form if you would like to chat.. I’m in mine right now in Virginia at Overland Expo East.

its also possible that some storm that came through had something to do with it because they are logging a massive area and stating it is due to storm damage. maybe a tornado at some point came through? But yeah, those who want to go through and chew land up because their vehicle can is the reason we see major closures. The more of us that are out there the bigger problem that it will become.
