Thanks for visiting. I'm glad you and your family enjoyed it. My wife and I live a little north of Galveston. We dry camp at Crystal Beach a lot. I also work for the Sheriff's Office and patrol from the ferry to High Island, to include the beach. The info in your video was for the most part accurate. I'm always glad to see visitors. Come back anytime.

@K Rose B Thank you for your comment and the link. First let me say that if this has happened to you I am very sorry. I too have lost a dog after it was attacked by another and it is a terrible thing to go through. I understand that, without context, watching short video clips of anything can be interpreted in different ways. Please allow me to give some perspective. I have had dogs all my life. From family dogs to farm dogs and even herding dogs and am well versed on dog training. Dogs will become what you train them do be. Whether deliberately or inadvertently. Harley is no exception. He is a very well trained family and social dog. In the video I say “go get the birds” and he ran to them. In his training we use the trigger phrase “go get” as a call for affection. If I say “go get Nico” he will run to my son looking for a pet or belly rub. He was not literally “hunting birds.” If one were to stay still he would most likely lick it if not run away. On his part it was shear curiosity what these things were. He also would not go investigate unless I used the phrase “go get,” essentially giving him permission to leave my side. As for as being on a leash, as you can see from the panning shots in the video, there was no one else around us. Had there been anyone there we would have him on a leash. Not for his lack of training or behavior but to put other people at ease that, again, don’t have this perspective. I am very pro dog for the joy and benefit they give your life but I have always been against people getting dogs and not knowing or at least researching how to train and raise them. It is a lot more work than most people think. Thank you again for taking the time to comment on our video. I hope I was able to paint a more accurate picture of the situation. Thanks for watching! -Matt

When we were there, summer of 2019, the rangers will come by and you can buy your $10 parking pass directly from them. Of note....the pass is good for a full year. We stayed a week and yes, one of the local RV parks allowed us to dump our tanks and refill our fresh water for a small fee. Great place. Will go back.

Be careful with the sand. I noticed a few puddles on your way in. That tells me there was a recent rain, which packs the sand down nicely. If it were several weeks since the last rain, the likelihood of getting stuck increases a lot. The sand will turn powdery. (I’ve lived in the Texas coast for over 60 years.

Hi friend! I like the idea of solar but just can’t justify the price it would take to set it up. We would like to do more dry camping and have plans to do so but in the big scope of things, it will still be just a fraction of the camping we do. I’m going with an inverter generator for now and possibly upgrading to lithium batteries. If we were full time I would look closer at solar but for now I think a generator fits the bill. We will be going back to that beach this fall for a longer period. Will be fun to experiment and show how/if a generator can work for that situation. I need your opinion, why did you switch from a travel trailer to a fifth wheel?
@RCRVadventures
@RCRVadventures 2 года назад
Hi friend. Great question. The answer has several factors. (Long answer warning lol!) when we first bought the TT we had a half ton truck so fifth wheel was out. Also, a fifth wheel was out of our price range. We got the TT to go camping but after using the TT and falling in love with RV travel, we understood that this form of travel was something that was going to be part of our lifestyle and thus worth the extra investment to but a fifth wheel. At first, we got the 5ver just to have more room and be more comfortable. After owning it for a while know I can say it tows MUCH better than the TT making long distance travel more pleasant. Remember though, we had a HUGE travel trailer (36’.) Even towing it with the F350 doesn’t come close to towing our 42’ 5ver. After owning them both, I would say if you’re just wanting to go camping and maybe a vacation here and there a TT is great and priced perfect. If, however, you’re wanting to really use it and travel and see this country, a 5ver is a great choice. This question may be a good video topic to cover. I appreciate you bringing it up! Hope this helped. Anything else you’d like to know, don’t hesitate to reach out. Safe travels!

@@RCRVadventures Thanks a million for the advice and answering my question!😊Sorry for the questions. But did your half ton have sway issues towing the TT? I have a family of 6. I want a half ton to fit my family.
@RCRVadventures
@RCRVadventures 2 года назад
I did have a little sway issues. With the TT I learned the importance of buying a good hitch. I went through 3 different hitches and all were different. For local camping it was a non issue. It was long highway travel that was sometimes not a carefree driving experience. Especially if it was really windy. I never expected real “sway” meaning the side to side movement doesn’t stop or gets worse. It was the wiggle from a gust of wind or semi track passing you that you could feel. We started with what we had which was a half ton and it is possible but there are far better towing options. If you are in a position that you have a choice, I would always suggest a 3/4 ton or 1 ton truck. Especially if it’s your first RV because statistically you are going to upgrade within 1 to 2 years and, with a big family, you will want to go bigger.

@@RCRVadventures so you were able to dry camp and run ac for those 2 days? I'm sorry, I'm new to this and just want to understand all what things you were able to run without a generator.
@RCRVadventures
@RCRVadventures 2 года назад
No need to apologize. We are happy to help answer questions. When we stayed without a generator we were only running off our batteries so we could only use things that run on 12volt system. No AC’s. We just opened our windows for the breeze. What you will have working between your batteries and propane is your water pump (battery), water heater (battery/propane), lights (battery), furnace (battery/propane, stove (propane), any ceiling vent fans (battery), and the refrigerator (if you have a gas/electric refrigerator.) Also, any USB ports in the camper will work. Great for charging your phone or plugging in a usb powered fan. You will not have air conditioning or any plug in outlets as those run off of 110 volts. For example, we couldn’t plug in a coffee maker so what we did was heat a pot of water on the stove and pour it into a French press to make coffee. The time of year we went really saved us. If we were to do that in the middle of summer it would have been torture without the AC. 🤣 This is a simple explanation. Once you start talking about RVs with inverters and/or generators, you are able to include some 110volt items to use. Did that help explain it a little? Hope I didn’t get too confusing. 😂
