I made a little trailer one time. Made it from a ford escort rear end. That way it had car tires and could handle the weight.

One would think that pipe was a drain field for a septic tank.
@ColoradoCamperman
@ColoradoCamperman 3 года назад
I thought it may be something to do with a septic as well, but there was no other sign besides this one random pipe sticking out of the ground. The previous owner was a weird dude and half assed a lot of stuff, so I wasn't expecting anything more than I found. Thanks for watching Chris!

Hi David (Neighbor)... I bought myself 12 acres in the San Luis area just a year ago...Finally got a chance to go and check it out in July... 7700 feet elevation is great...only sad part is there are Zero trees on my land. I plan on relocating there in another year or two. Good luck with your new land too ! Great video Colorado Camperman !

Getting caught up! Nice shooting birm. What a difference having an excavator 🌞👍👍👍👍
@ColoradoCamperman
@ColoradoCamperman 2 года назад
Thank you! Yeah, the shooting berm is really nice. We are still going to build a log wall to shoot into. Too many rocks in the berm and we have gotten some ricochets from small caliber rounds. The excavator was a huge help! We love the trails it helped build.

Like the videos, I have 50 acres right outside of San Luis colorado but live and work in Denver, I've recently had my property broken into for the 2nd time and had lots of equipment stolen out of my shed generator, camping equipment, and so on. Was wondering if you ever have any issues with that where you are? And if so any tricks... I do like the idea of a cargo container a little harder to break into. Anyway great vids..
@ColoradoCamperman
@ColoradoCamperman 2 года назад
Glad you like the videos! Thanks for checking them out! I am sorry to hear that you are having issues with your property and things have been stolen. Having your property stolen has got to be one of the worst feelings. As of yet (knock on wood) we have not had any theft issues. We have had people trespassing. One thing that we did that has helped us is we installed a gate at the front of our property with no trespassing signs and signs saying we have cameras. Our property is heavily treed which acts like a natural fence. Really the only way to get a vehicle into our property is through our driveway which we have cut off with installing a gate/fence. If you haven't installed a gate/fence around your property, I would recommend starting there. Otherwise people can drive their vehicles right up to your shed, cut off a lock, load their vehicle up, and drive off. Shipping containers are somewhat more safe, however, you can get an 18 volt angle grinder with a cutting wheel and have a lock cut off under 30 seconds. But, the more difficult you make it for thieves, the more likely they are to move onto easier targets. Other things that have helped us..... We have game cameras setup throughout the property. So, if something is stolen, we will be able to see faces and license plate numbers. You can even have game cameras that remotely send you pictures, so if someone breaks in, you could immediately contact the Sheriff. We also have neighbors who live there full time and we know them. This is a massive help because they keep an eye on our property when we are not there. I'd recommend talking to as many of your neighbors as possible. Ultimately, if you are continuing to have issues, I would consider selling. Now is a great time to sell, the market is hot and prices are high. Maybe consider purchasing property in a gated community. You may have HOA fees and more regulations, however, you're less likely to deal with theft. Sorry again you're going through this. Thanks for watching!

@@ColoradoCamperman Hey thanks for the reply I appreciate all the ideas about protecting the property, I do have a ranch entrance with fencing all the way along the county road with no trespassing signs every 40 feet on top of false security cameras mounted, unfortunately it still doesn't stop them they shot the cameras out and cut through the fence.. Honestly I don't think it would happen if I was down there full time, im pretty sure they know im not there but every other month so the help themselves so to say. I am planning on getting some trail cams because I do need a description or plate number like you said, any brand you'd recommend for clarity of photos? My property is also heavily wooded and my shed isn't even visible to the road, anyway it's a shame how people act. I do have a neighbor finally and I do need to go introduce myself try to get a helpful eye on the property while im away. Anyway thanks again for the input, and I like the screen room you built those bugs can get gnarly at times.

@@trevorsmith6451 Man that is really a shame to hear. Like you said, I bet it wouldn't happen if you were down there full time. They are probably local thieves. For trail cameras, I have a few different ones. The most reliable cameras that I have are actually the cheapest ones I bought at Wal-Mart. It's a "Tasco 12 MP Tan Low Glow Trail Camera". The quality of the photos is not as good as some of my other cams and that really is the only thing I don't like about it. It does a great job at capturing movement, it's night pics are good, it's easy to setup, and it takes AA batteries (they last a long time too!). I also have Moultrie cameras, but they seem to be more temperamental. They don't capture night shots as well and they chew through batteries quicker. They take C batteries so it is more expensive to replace the batteries. Since you are trying to get plate numbers and solid facial pics, you may want to consider 24 MP or better camera. I could read a license plate from my cameras but faces aren't as detailed. If you decide to do a cell trail cam, you will have to be wise with where you place the camera. Game cameras will trigger based on motion, so if it is a windy day, tree branches moving will likely trigger the camera. The cell trail cams can send you a pic every time it catches movement, so you could be getting a ton of notifications on a windy day. You also chose your cell plan based on the number of photos/size of photos that are transmitted. Hopefully that helps give you some ideas! No problem on the input, thanks again for watching!

It is so great to have land to be able to camp on! Except I will warn you, you won't want to camp anywhere else! Prices right now are outrageous. Our property has more than doubled in value since we bought it. When we bought, there were properties all around us for 35-40k. Now everything is 70k-90k! Crazy how much has changed in a short amount of time.

Can you give me a rough idea how much renting one of those excavators runs....very usesful tool to have... I'm thinking about buying a Harbor Freight Portable Backhoe when I finally make my move to So. Colorado. $3499.00 right now.
@ColoradoCamperman
@ColoradoCamperman 3 года назад
It was around $1,300 with the excavator and trailer. We rented it for a week and did a few major projects at our house first prior to bringing it to our land. We could've rented a smaller excavator for about $200 cheaper. That would have been better suited at our house but on our property, the bigger excavator was worth the additional cost. I had considered purchasing that HF backhoe as well. However, I was concerned about it's digging ability in our unbelievable rocky soil. I also didn't want to have another large item that I had to store and maintain. Really, I would love to get a small backhoe tractor. Then I could also get implements that we could use on the property (box blade, post hole digger, etc). But, I can't justify the cost of one since we only use our property on a short term basis. If we lived on the property, without question I would buy a tractor. Thanks for watching!

I just bought 5 acres in Utah with a very similar landscape. A lot of “cactus mitigation” in my future. Was that little excavator able to dig up the tree roots and stumps on those pinions? Also, do the dogs seem to watch out for the cacti or do they step in em?
@ColoradoCamperman
@ColoradoCamperman 3 года назад
Congrats on your land! That is a very exciting time! The excavator did a really good job overall. Pinons roots are not very deep, so it dug up the old dead ones pretty easy. We have extremely rocky soil (I'm sure you do too) and it worked through it well. The dogs do a pretty good job at walking around the cactus. It takes them stepping in cactus a time or two before they learn to avoid them. My In-Law's dog runs full speed around our property and somehow manages to avoid the cactus. Congrats again and thanks for watching!
