I live in Elmira, Canada, I’m 76 years old and have been drawing all my life. I really enjoy watching RU-vid channels related to sketching and other types of art. I discovered you a few months ago, and have learned so much, mostly through I enjoy you. The world would be in a much better way if their were lot more people like you 🇨🇦👍
Perfect timing, now that my exams are over and summer holidays are going on, I'm so excited to get back into sketching and painting although it have been such a long time since I actually sketched , but your videos and overall vibes always push me to approach everything will a smile and positive mindset, thank you so much Jess, it's so nice to watch your channel grow more and more!✨ Somehow nice got typed as mice, that's the edit.
Even with almost 400,000 subscribers, you're still replying to comments. That's as outstanding as your positivity and creativity. Thank you for sharing.
I feel like true masterpieces comes from the artist themselves, sometimes getting over the challenges of different mediums is what adds to the artistry
The method you used before you place your ink is fully different that I haven't observed, if I haven't seen you using before then I was missing the point. You're the best teacher that creates impeccable videos all the time. This Sunday is spoiled beautifully with a new video. Thank you .❤❤ The spreads are intriguing touch.❤❤ This artwork deserves exhibition, community needs to love this work to their beloved homes.
this is absolutely gorgeous as always, i really enjoyed watching this video! thank you for always encouraging us as well as spreading love and positivity, you're such a kind human being!! can't wait to see your next video!
I’ve been following you for a few years now and I love how you’ve improved so much!! Your art and positive vibes are so wonderful and inspiring!! I wish you the best in your creative journey and whatever challenges lie ahead! 💕
This was so sweet! The group hug was a lovely surprise. I was lying in bed exhausted, but now I’m getting up and grabbing my brush and ink. Thank you Jess!
Jess, I just found you last week and I am so addicted to your channel and your Art. Thank you for all that you share. You made me pick up my sketchbook and just start drawing on it again, whatever it is!! Important is that I should do it to practice, relax or just to try new things. Thank you ❤ Sending you light and love also back to you!
I watch so many artist youtubers and your joy and enthusiasm really is something that sticks out and that I appreciate besides the gorgeous art you create.
Great video Jess! I was impressed with the range of values were able to obtain just with the ballpoint pen. Sometimes on the same face you went all the way from the darkest tone the pen could do to the light of the paper. You captured so much personality in the faces! Well done!
You have amazing talent and a heart of gold. Your charisma and creativity inspire me everyday, through thought and production. I keep your beautiful self portrait as my wallpaper on my Apple Watch to remind me to create. thanks for all you do. Your the best...Truly the best artist Ive seen. And BONUS...our hearts are filled with your kindness
Thanks for the hug, Jess! Sending one your way too! You're such an inspiration. I am so happy that I found your channel and that I'm able to learn from you. 💖
Such wonderful drawings, Jess! I really enjoy your videos. This one was especially meaningful for me because a group of us spontaneously showed up today to help a friend who is in great need. It really felt like a big group hug and a chance to see each other in a new light as we worked together. You drew it, we did it❤ almost like magic!
just lovely! my favourite art supply probably has to be a ball-point pen, i just like how there's no rubber on it. Also i like how light and dark the pen can do. thank you ❤❤❤ i love your energy you give in your videos!
Totally loved watching the video. And the music was so beautiful and soothing....Me personally, I'm just getting back into drawing and artwork after being away from it for way to many years.
I have such admiration for your endless skills. Beautiful page spread with such variety! I love it and all the tips you include along the way. Thanks for the links, too. Sending a hug right back at ya ❤ I usually love drawing/painting wildlife and flowers but have been more interested in people mainly portraits lately. Boy, do I need practice, LOL. I love gouache and colored pencils.
Wow, watching you create is so inspiring!! The final composition here was brilliant. I love watching you create and would love to follow you through another of your 100 challenges. Thank you for lifting my spirit today
Please do another 100 challenge!! I love seeing your challenges. I tend to draw animals and wildlife and recently I’ve really enjoyed using my markers.
WOW! Mind blowing spread….your enthusiasm and genuinely excited approach to your art (plus your mad skills) are just SO inspiring! And a ball point pen?! Crazy!
This is magnificent. Such depth and vision. You do inspire immensely. I like the little vignettes you do for summer with several items. Love the doors and of course flowers.
I have tried pencil, rollerball, felt point and fountain pen. Recently after seeing videos with draws made with ballpoint pens I decided to try it. It is very interesting, somehow like pencil, in which we can make very soft traces and very strong traces. And it's ink, which I like. And an unexpensive BIC does the job.
It is great watching how you slowly build and bounce around as you finish each face. I always tend to hyper focus on one aspect of the face rather then just relaxing and and letting myself just flow with were my eyes and hands take me. It has been really nice to see how others draw and complete their art, slow and steady wins the race. Also it helped me recall what you said in a prior video. You mentioned it took DaVinci 4 years to paint the Mona Lisa and in my head I always assumed art needed to be completed right then and there. I have learned so much over the recent years and I am finally glad that it is all coming together and clicking for me now. Thank you again for your time in sharing your knowledge. It has helped me tremendously in more ways then you know. Art is so healing. Thank you!!!
That sketchbook spread just touches my heart! I really love watching other people doing portrature, hyperrealism and use many mediums, BUT what I like drawing and painting are flowers( and very rarely landscapes). I use most commonly watercolor and othervice just simple pencils. When I feel pressure from social media to paint some other things, it sometimes makes me feel like I´m some kind of mechanical alien. It just doesn´t make me feel good like art´s supposed to be. So : I love art in all forms, but I do what I like is best for me!
Ahhh 😌..nothing like a Jess Karp video to watch after a long day at work! I would love to see another 100 challenge too! Thank you for all the joy, inspiration and positivity you bring us 🥰💕🎨
You're one of the best YTer when it comes to sketching/drawing. So i guess you could draw with anything that leaves a mark, because it's all about skill, not material.
I love how you do your noses. At first I thought they started off too big, then I watched to see how you did the shading, and it all came together nicely. I’ll have to try that myself and see if it helps, because I always struggle with noses. And then I will get brave and try sketching with a pen…
Jess, your artworks are really amazing and you give inspiration to keep creating and be creative. I'm glad I bought multicolor pen and new sketchbook, and then saw this video. I'm excited to try drawing using those. I really admire your creativity and your skill its motivating and gives excitement to keep drawing and growing as an artist. Thank you so much, Jess.
That's some very clean and fun line work. Love your style hovering right between realism and caricature. I teach in a secondry, and in between lessons or during quiet moments, I always sketch out random heads/faces with a biro. Perhaps 3-4 a week. The kids now take them from me and cut them out and they made a wall in one of the English classrooms called "Sir's Drawings". It's getting pretty full now! But I'm always trying to inspire the creative ones who draw!
@@annamarielewis7078 No I thought about it many years ago but the idea of sitting, with purpose, at my desk after work and filming myself drawing doesn't appeal to me. I often hang out in the Art rooms at school during my free periods, and always join in or walk around giving advice and demonstrations. The old Art teacher is glad of it. But with my sketching and drawing, it's just something I do these days. I can't stop doing it, because thats just who I am, but it's spur of the moment for me - very different to when I was a student and had to actively plan a drawing, from conception to final piece etc! I'm glad those days are over. Now I just do it for fun and relaxation and keeping my hand in. I teach English and History, not Art. But I'm lucky to have a talent for drawing and spent lots of years practicing it. If it makes other people inspired or happy, that's all I can ask for. And I'm glad to pass on tips to the young ones starting out in class, because hopefully it saves them some of the grind that I had to go through, being self taught.
I think I will be doing that. I feel like I want to be friends with you. Gosh. Hope that doesn’t sound creepy 😂🤣😂 Crazy old lady stalks artist, desperate for friendship.🤣😂🤣 I crack myself up. 😂🤣😂😂
Hi Jess! ❤ Awesome video, as always 🎉 I would love to see a video of you sketching and/or painting digitally just for the fun of it 🥰 Kisses and hugs from Argentina 🇦🇷
Kidd you not I have watched that '7 creative habits' video sooo many times by now, and the way you have made it, is so cozy comforting, and motivating!! It's like doing a parade with drums, so energizing, loved it, gave me more of what I can do nad brought back memories, when I used to make scrapbooks
Wow, outstanding job that is a masterpiece. You’re an amazing artist. I cannot wait to see what you do next. God bless you and your beautiful family. I hope you have a blessed holiday this year with your beautiful family.
Love this. I just did a challenge with my year six class to draw only using a biro, to get out of the habit of rubbing out all their work. some of their sketches were amazing.
Wow Jess, this was incredible!! I am so in love with the versatility of your work. It would be a dream come true if I would be able to meet you and draw with you, it's just one of my biggest wish ever!
Hullo Jess, I have been enjoying watching your videos for a while now and I have no regrets on my print purchases from your website! My wife gets comments everyday on the “hands” picture with the ASL alphabet! She has it hanging in her office and so it gets a lot of exposure from those who have business with the state! I have enjoyed watching your positivity and encouragement during your videos, you are truly amazing and a wonderful artist, thank you.
Beautiful work and beautiful sentiments... thanks for posting! I use many different materials, but I suppose I enjoy oil painting and charcoal drawing the most.
I’m new to your channel and I’m already in love with your talent. I absolutely would love for you to do real time videos! Also may I know how long did this whole work take you to finish?
Thanks - I have a few on my channel but most of my real time content is posted exclusively for my patrons :) Thanks for your support and for subscribing :) Happy to have you here!
Let me tell you a story from Turkey; I was told that once the great jazz drummer Elvin Jones was here with his band for a jazz festival or something. One night, after their concert they went to a bar for couple of drinks and jam session. There was a miserable, ragged drumset on the stage which no one expect to hear something good out of. Then Elvin Jones sat behind it, tuned it a little bit, than started to play. The crowd was amazed from what they here. They were listening that good old Elvin Jones tone. So, "Can a CHEAP Pen Be GREAT for Sketching?" Of course. Only in the right hands like this post. These sketches are great. By the way, as a drawing tool, ballpoints are generally underrated. When it comes to line variety they are much better than fountains or rollers. P.S.: After filling a page with drawing or handwriting, I like to smell it. That oil based ballpoint ink scent mesmerize me.
Cool beans. Who would have known. Ballpoint pen drawings. Pretty good cross hatching. When I do hyperrealistic ballpoint pen drawings, the right kind of pen is key. Won't find old fashioned pens at art stores. The have know idea. They'll show you gel pens which I never use. I use hatching, cross hatching, scribbling, stippling and blending in my art. Layering is not achieved with gel pens that's for sure. Awesome video. Great job.😊
Anything that you can use in a controlled way to make lines-curves, etc is good for sketching. It was a time, people made sketches with lead pencil...what you show is "high tech" compared to other tools we can use to draw. The romans used a "stylus", it was bogger than a pen, and used to write in wax(sort of carving) or to make dark marks on papyrus, what they used before paper.
Thanks jess for inspiring people in the right way with a open heart and mind you can do anything ..And Achieve great things with a purpose and direction just Discipline the mind in a positive way things can happen thanks again Jess
Jess, you never stop to amaze!!! This turned out wonderfully... i think i love florals... been trying to paint (with watercolor) sunflowers recently...it's one of my favorite flowers... still struggling with getting the results i have in my head though..
I used a stencil for my sunflowers. It’s my husband’s favorite flower so I used lots of colors and all different mediums. I have little confidence in my drawing skills, but it’s more about patience for me. I like to finish things.
