I once laid fert and mowed several days later because of dry conditions. I ended up with blisters all over my exposed skin. Im sure it was chemical burns from the sythetic fert I had put down earlier in the week. I just wouldnt do that again. But I understand you reason to show this. Thanks for the Vid.

I took the wimpy blades off my riding mower and replaced them with GATOR blades, the best money ever spent. Just replaced the belt with a heavy duty type, OMG it grinds up the grass LOL! My neighbors cringe at the sound of my compressor, air wrench or watching me suck the oil out of my lawnmower with a MightyVac.

could you possibly do a video on bagging, mulching, or let it fly grass clipping? which one benefits more, which would cause more harm to your lawn, and so on.

At 13:39 I like bagging in the spring and fall with over seeding. So the seed can get down there a little easier.

So Allyn, when you have this Landscaping done might you possibly do a full video or at the very least an extended segment on that as well? Landscaping is a huge part of a beautiful lawn in my opinion.. it just ties everything in together. ( plus I'm a huge fan of clean looking landscaping). It would be cool to see the work being done!.

I put my Milo last weekend today a nice cut and tighten up my edges turned out to be a memorial day domination weekend ringer would have got sucked up more probably because it's so light and just sits on top of the grass

Good topic "fert than mow"? I would not have used spreader on median strip. You get fertilizer in street and sidewalk. I always do by hand.

Hey Sir LCN....question for ya. I am in northern NY ansd my grass is growing like crazzzzzy now with the use of MILO!! TY so much for turning me into a LCN as well. Have a problem though...mowed 3 days ago and left her pretty high as I was hosting a mem day party thing...everyone LOVED the lawn. Hey, brother! What type or grit of sanding discs to I use with my die grinder to sharpen my lawn mower blades? I haven't done it before, but I am very mechanical and like to do things myself. I will probably purchase a spare blade so I can always have one sharpened and ready to go, and will probably find a local shop to sharpen it for me, just so I can give them some business. However, I do want to be able to take care of it myself when I need to. Please get back to me sir. You are awesome.

You used to work for TruGreen? They have told me to cut my Bermuda @ 2" while you have said 2.5". 2" to me seems to scalp and leave scalp marks.

Ok, that's the end of that claim. I believe the customers were thinking that it was sucking up most of it. Now, I also get this one using an open chute. After a liquid fertilizer is put down, they claim I cause "striping." Not from the tires, but from where the grass lands with the liquid fertilizer on it. Over-fertilizing in rows. Really. Had the spray tech agree with them.

I tell my clients to mulch and not bag. It adds 1 lb of N to their lawn naturally.

Hey you have probably answered this before, but if I do start to follow your guides should I mow before or after applying fertilizer? For instance, if I arrive at a customers property and plan to do both, which should I do first, or should I try to split them apart a day or two?

Hello Allan first let me express my appreciation for a great source of information. My question is I have a small lawn approximately 35x35Ft. If I just use my battery powered grass trimmer, do I risk damaging the lawn.? My lawn is nice and green up here in NY now. I read somewhere on the back of a Scotts weed and feed that grass clippings are to be left on the lawn. I will buy a lawn mower if it makes a big difference or else I don't mind using the trimmer. Thanks for your help.

Allyn Allyn, brother I see you walkin "with the stripes" while thrownin down the milo.....I do the same thing. I hate to see foot prints going "against the stripes".......I even ask my wife the gardener when she walks across the lawn, to follow the stripes"....think of them as "cross walks in the lawn".......she says "I'm a sick boy".. :-)...some are sicker then others right!!!!!!!

I'm right in the middle of revamping my yard from a mess of weeds with small patches of centipede, to zenith zoysia. I removed all grass and tilled my soil to a depth of 3 inches. The zenith seed is down, however I have a spot that's roughly 15" x 20" where clover has come from nowhere, and it's a problem that I did not have before. The zenith seed has just started to germinate. Is there anything that I can put down to kill the clover at this time, or do I need to wait for the zoysia to become more established? Thanks a lot for the videos, and hopefully I will be dominating my neighborhood in about 2-3 months.

I have sucked up plenty of pelletized fertilizer in my day so I cut BEFORE my application and then I cut it as late as I can after that, AND I do not bag for the first couple times at least. Two or 3 werks of fine clippings should bury the fertilizer.

One suggestion, and I know this is a very old video, could you leave to your chirons up longer. Chiron's might not be the right word for it but I mean the words that you're print out on screen. I am a slower reader than apparently you are. I do like reading and studying every bit of your videos. I leave in enough longer, maybe four times as long, it will give me a chance to get more out of what you have written and said. Again thank you very much for the education and entertainment.

Speculation: The synthetic fert contains larger particles which in turn have a[n] (assumed) greater mass than the milo particles, therefore the settling (or RE-entrainment in this case) velocity required is higher and is not overcome by the vortex created by the spinning of the mower blades under the deck.

I live in Lexington, KY and have a yard of tall fescue...but the dreaded bermuda started creeping in last year. We've been bagging to try to prevent the spread of the bermuda. Is this necessary or is it still ok to mulch the lawn clippings?

My schedule gets hectic, so I'll cut the day before I fertilize. Not much of a difference one day later in height of the grass. I usually wait two or three days to now again. Never an issue with granular with mowing the next day.

Funny u tested to see if it was picked up. I normally apply it then go mulch. Somehow deep down inside i want the lawn mower to pick up the granuales, swirl them around and magically drop them between the grass blades that need them the most. In the end, more evenly spread. Not to say that my spreader is doing a bad job but those areas where there some a little overlap... Anywho, great video! :)

The Ringer fertilizer you use, I have centipede grass, is that fertilizer good for centipede? Also will fertilizer also kill weeds or do I specifically need to spray weeds? I'm a new landowner so I'm new to maintaining yards :)

Allyn,So, I'm going make a guess and say that light seeds will be picked up easily. Sometimes you just need to overseed when the lawn is actively growing. So, mulch if you have to mow.

Hey why don't you just go to Home Depot or Lowe's and pick up yourself those foldable 6ft tables to do these and similar tests on. It will save your back man.

Will a lawnmower suck up the fertilizer? Not if you have a good lawnmower, it'll sort the fertilizer out from the grass and put the fertilizer back where it came from ;).

Future improvements: Should have monitored wind speed as it will contribute to falling of pellets over time. Time between application and cut too. Also solar radiation, as movement due to grass growth may be another factor.

i have a client who has Kentucky style grass. they wanted me put Bermuda grass seed down on the dry patches ...the patch is now full thick and vresn now hd wanys the whole yard the exact same way how do i go about doing that do i need to pull up the Kentucky style grass or deeply airate it....i know its the wrong video for it but can you explain the process

I dont care what anybody says; leaving clippings on the lawn creates thatch and that leads to a yellowish looking lawn. It also hinders making fert-to-soil contact. Bag for life!

My local Siteone has a suggested program for the area, but it's constant lesco apps that are only 20 or 30% slow release. doesn't seem right to put down right before the hot months.
