Thank you so much for this "Cooling A Heat..." video. I do 3am watering and DAY watering now, only 5mins at 1pm and my lawn turns out healthy now in hot summer in NorthEast. This is the BEST way to help the lawn survive well in the summer time. No other way ! Thanks a lot !

Cooling A Heat is the best video so far. I am living in CT and I set up my sprinkler system watering my lawn 15 mins each zone at 3am in the morning and again at 1pm for only 5 mins, everyday. If the temperature reaches more than 87 F, I water again at 4pm. My lawn is healthy without stress at all. Thanks The Lawn Care Nut Problems resolved, after many, many, many years lawn always gets burned in the summer time. Not this time and never again. Again thanks so much.

Im fairly new to the lawn nut community and I was afraid of burning my lawn if I watered during the afternoon. I seeded my lawn in mid spring this year to fill in some construction damage (i know its not the ideal time but it went off without a hitch) and i put my lawn (400 sf) on a 5 minutes in the morning 5 minutes mid-afternoon daily watering cycle and my lawn loved it. So I have maintained that watering cycle for the last month or two, resulting in lawn domination. Thank you for all your tips and the time you spend to break down your passion for lawn care. Great helpful video. If I can't be home misting my lawn in the middle of the day then in the evening I'll just look at tomorrow weather forecast and if heat goes over 90F and clear sky, I'll just schedule my sprinkles to water for 10 minutes around 2PM the next day.

Thanks for dispelling the mid day water burn myth!!! Fescue in NC here. My usual summer is fescue gives up and crabgrass takes over. By covering all the bases this year with all your strategies, I am DOMINATING my neighbors! Going to try quick bursts of water with my sprinkler throughout the day next to cool my 115 degree soil. Great idea, but I don't have time or ability to run home every day. Having my Rachio controller take the helm and give it a shot. Thanks!

Pushing 93-94 full sun day 7 with 3-4 to go. Been dumping water but my irrigation system has just horrible coverage in the spots that need it most. Combating 2nd round crabgrass around the edges/not too bad, where the prodoamine wore off (lesson learned) and also Nutsedge. I’ve pulled half of the nutsedge when it was wet but can’t pull when it’s this dry. Won’t get root and so waste of time. Need to bust out the hose and sprinkler to target certain areas I’m seeing.

"Mass lawn burning" I was worried if there was such a thing because I planted grass seeds here in A suburb of Portland Oregon and have to keep the seed and the new planted sod watered. It was 90 degrees here and I was watering my small front yard like it was a wet n wild water park. I was thinking my neighbors might think I'm burning my lawn with the bright bright sun at 2pm...I as well has that in the back of my mind if there was such a thing...I'm glad Alan that you speak with a touch of sarcasm, and I'm saying it with appreciation because it helps people understand when sarcasm is used properly.....I've taught my son math with a little sarcasm when pointing out different techniques...and he is now a Straight A student...thanks for your clear, easy to understand tutorials.

Something "weird" I noticed (my first year in lawn care): The lawn areas which were better watered during spring are doing much better during the heat, even though now I water everything evenly. Those better watered portions remain green and keep growing in reaction to the water I put now. The other areas got brown and although I can green them up with extra water now, they are clearly lagging behind. I was using a hose during spring and now I have sprinklers. It is like that portion of the grass got a much better foundation to support the summer stress.

Hey Allen, I'm looking a zoysia as a possibility for our lawn because we live in a very sunny, very hot southern suburb. Also, the only treatment of our lawn is a weed and feed.

When water evaporates it takes heat energy with it. It's also dependent on the humidity of the air. Humid air lowers how effective the heat transfer is. In places like Arizona you would get even better results! Thumbs UP!

I live in Sarasota, just south of you. We are expecting some unusually high temperatures this weekend. I searched out a video like this because my intuition told me my lawn won’t “burn” if I water it mid day. The burn theory I hear is: once you stop the watering, droplets act as tiny magnifying glasses and burn the grass”. Truly I don’t care much for my lawn because it always looks great (I’m lucky) but the higher temps and lack of daily showers lately are taking a toll.

@bigredsimulations7558
@bigredsimulations7558 8 лет назад
Hey there Allen, just wanted to say that was a great informational video, keep em coming. Also I just wanted to add that while watering the lawn during mid day will NOT burn out the lawn, the reason you want to water early is so the water has a chance to penetrate the soil where the plants can use it. watering mid day especially during the heat of the day, allowing the water to evaporate, and while this may help cool the lawn, the lawn can't utilize the water to sustain growth. Misting the lawn is a great idea to help cool it down so the stress of the heat isn't so great, but regular watering in the morning is essential to help keep the lawn strong and healthy, resisting disease.
@witness033
@witness033 8 лет назад
That's a good point to emphasize, because a lot of beginners will confuse regular watering with the supplemental misting or syringing. It doesn't do much good to mist if you don't meet the basic moisture requirement in the soil profile.
@Thelawncarenut
@Thelawncarenut 8 лет назад
yep, agreed. It's in the video but wasn't stressed like it should have been.

the organic fert won't really dictate the water needs in a direct response manner like that. But generally, if you are fertilizing then you will def want to ensure you keep the soil well irrigated so just keep a close eye on things and adjust by "feel"
