Wider than a motorcycle and built for ON road rides, the Can-Am Spyder is fun, fast (tops out a 100 mph, but please obey posted speeds wherever you are) and this touring edition delivers a comfortable ride with safety, stability and ease of use at the forefront. More info: encinomom.com/can-am-spyder/
Special thanks to Jim Kludeus for taking our cameraman for a speedy and safe spin on the streets of Long Beach, California and for being such a good sport about posing as EncinoMom's Lisa Keating in the action sequence!

if you need to be tolod when it's time to change gears you probably should not be riding yet...go to a riding school.

don't you have to adjust the valves every 10k?? and at what cost??
@Encinomom
@Encinomom 10 лет назад
"Another selling point emphasized during the vehicle’s introduction is improved vehicle maintenance intervals, aimed to keep the 2014 Spyder RT “on the road, not in the garage.” According to Can-Am, its oil only needs to be changed every 9300 miles and valve adjustments are no longer needed." www.motorcycle-usa.com/731/17020/Motorcycle-Article/2014-Can-Am-Spyder-RT-Gets-New-Inline-Triple.aspx

EncinoMom Magazine That would be an improvement. I had heard on the older models that valve adjustments, when needed, were rather a big expense to have done.. Thanx for the info..

Did you ever ride a motorcycle before, and was this your first time on a 3 wheel bike. I'm curious because I have never ridden a motorcycle and am thinking of purchasing a can am. thank you Emilio PS the video was informing

Hi Emillio, I have been a passenger on a motorcycle before (like 20 years ago), so I consider myself to have 0 experience as a motorcycle driver. This was definitely my first time on a 3 wheeled bike. It was easy to maneuver and operate. That said - please note that the street shots were taken with our cameraman on the back of the bike with a professional driver. I wasn't ready to drive in live traffic after a 5 minute demo, but feel confident that I would have been up to speed within an hour or so. Hope this helps! Have fun!!! Best, Lisa

he's telling her to shift up with thumb and down shift with pointer finger...if you're doing all the shifting where is the auto?
@MrKdr500
@MrKdr500 9 лет назад
he said auto clutch, semi Auto gearbox.
@jamesmcdonald240
@jamesmcdonald240 9 лет назад
I thought the Can-Am is supposed to automatically down shift as you slow down and that you only have to upshift
@MrKdr500
@MrKdr500 9 лет назад
james mcdonald i'm not sure about that one, maybe phone a dealer and ask them?
@StormAutoAdventures
@StormAutoAdventures 9 лет назад
james mcdonald It was downshifting automatically on another video I was watching. You do have the option of downshifting it yourself though. It was about a 15 minute long video I watched and the guy was explaining and showing how it will downshift automatically. Hope this helps.
@Encinomom
@Encinomom 9 лет назад
james mcdonald Hi James, You may have received an answer already, but I thought I'd let you know what I recently found out. It is a partially automatic transmission - meaning you UPSHIFT and the bike automatically DOWNSHIFTS. You may downshift yourself for more control of your ride. I just test drove the new model - without prior motorcycle experience - it was super easy to drive and FUN! Cheers, Lisa

i am not sold that all the changes they made to the 2014's will help any. The problems they had with the older models b r p should have found out before this time. .this is a from a former spyder r t owner not someone basing his opinion on what he heard and/or read . about the spyder r t

Why not just get a car? You have most of it anyway... only thing missing is the doors and a wheel! Really though... when you are on a 2-wheel motorcycle a carving the curves at lean angles you are operating in a near 3-dimensional field (maybe really 2 1/2 D unless you are doing jumps). Anyway, that allows you to use some evasive techniques that 3-wheelers don't have. On 2 wheels you also are narrower so you have more lane space to operate in. Also you can't individually operate braking -- all wheels or nothing! This means that if you have a flat on the rear you can't just brake the front and vice versa (braking on a flat can cause the tire to jump off the bead and lock up the wheel). I see these Can-Am machines as having none of the safety perks of being in a car and none of the performance-dexterity of a motorcycle. I think that makes them dangerous.
@JayDAnderson
@JayDAnderson 10 лет назад
Correction..."unacceptably dangerous" (outside my risk tolerance level for sure) cause I rely on my ability on a 2-wheeler to get away from people by "jetting" through small openings or doing emergency-swerves -- something you can't do on a 3-wheeler (you don't steer by leaning -- by affecting gyroscopic procession -- right?!!)

Jay D. Anderson If the world was full of 3 wheeled roadsters and someone invented a two wheeled motorcycle for the first time, people would say things like, they're not safe because they fall over, they take longer to stop than a Spyder, they're not as noticeable to oncoming traffic so they'll cause accidents, etc, etc. The fact is, all vehicles have risks and rewards based on their characteristics and the safety record of the Spyder doesn't bear out your "unacceptably dangerous" fears. Some people just hate new ideas, or feel baselessly insecure about things they don't understand. Motorcyclists need to drive Spyders before slamming them, or just ignore them if they don't interest you. It's a fun ride. Educate yourself.
