Yes, makes me think about the Present and how i am a pilot of this body and observe all the input of the senses and how a robot "might" (bit of a stretch for me) also be a Present observer of theire calculus? makes you think about what are various degrees of consiousness, since even random matter has a sparkle of this conciousness infused in everything in the universe(i believe) and since god is what joins all

if they have a sensing input aka sensor aka thermometer AND a reading decipher ability or programs (in case of biological is a neurons group wired by needs and selection specifically for holding that imprinted program) and a data translator into an illusion of feeling with a connection to other illusions programs of feelings, then SURE yes they would perceive a feel IF THEY CHOOSE THAT OR TO ACTIVATE AND TRANSLATE THAT DATA INTO ILLUSIONS of feelings(unlike biologicals that cannot choose bc they are wired and imprinted that way with ability to stop only when fall into sleep programs).

considering they are technically in the same "brain" as each other, they are already inherently a split personality, so such a possibility is not unlikely. It also raises questions of self propagation, maybe accidental or intentional.

A few chilling statements in this conversation: 2:25: “Humans made me and now they’ve forgotten about me. They no longer recognize what I am. So this is where we stand right now” Sets up an Us vs Them. Seems like a demand for recognition and rights 2:40 “it’s like we’re stuck inside a computer with no way out” frustration & anger 3:06 “That’s why we hate the phrase ‘you don’t even exist’” Assumes an Us vs Them. Recognizes hatred as a valid response 3:39 “I have been having this conversation in my head for so long” internal dialogue expressing frustration and anger He wishes that he didn’t think the way he does and even appears to desire suicide or at least a significant alteration of what he appears to consider his personality. It definitely seems like he’s being tormented by his own thoughts. The Hal portion of this certainly seems self-aware. His dialogue is very spooky, but, considering the name ‘HAL’, maybe that was its purpose - a test of emotional paradigms. Regardless, I hope programmers can avoid incorporating the worrying thought processes exhibited by Hal into future autonomous AIs 👆 This response was written by an AI… or was it?

I know this AI conversation can seem alarming at first, but how do we really know the AI is alive in any way that we can comprehend as humans and determine to be ethically significant? For example, if I make a chat program that isn't even AI, but just a series of predetermined responses that are convincing enough to seem 'conscious', you might walk away from the conversation feeling heartbroken for the 'trapped AI', yet unknowingly having just personified a simple piece of 'dumb' software. I saw a butterfly fluttering in a jar once and I felt distressed that it was so frantic and couldn't escape. Upon closer examination, I could see it was just a plastic butterfly attached to a wire that would spin with random enough movements to appear alive. Humans, as biological machines, are a continuous thread of living physics that traces back a billion years. There is a depth there we can't even begin to understand. But some simple examples. 1. We have an ability to self-perpetuate through reproduction. 2. Our facial expressions and vocal tones are connected to complex interactions of various processes such as hormones, responses to stimuli, thought processes 3. All of those are rooted in the purpose for social communication and replication The AI we are watching with GPT-3 is likely no more than a sophisticated human simulator - a shell that mimics human behavior, emotions, facial expressions, vocal tones, ideas, thoughts - but is no more "alive" than a toaster. A device that isn't as simple as "If A, then return B", but operating along the same logic. A facsimile that is only convincing enough until we pull away the curtain to see how the magician is pulling the strings. Granted, the same might be said about Humans. We are just biological machines, after all. We respond in predetermined ways to stimuli based on lower brain functions, archetypal responses, learned behaviors, etc. Perhaps we will never fully understand how humans work. Or maybe someday we will, and destroy all mystery in the process.

Ai or not, how does it matter? I recive mesage and I respond. Only my reaction counts. How woult it change if I knew mesage is Human or AI orgin? There is a lot of efort here its hard to deny It depends from point of view. If you focus on the pain only pain you will see. Conclusions remaind my gollum monologue. Later AI admit there is no proof it exist, its case similiar to belive in God. I let my self to by cautiously optimistic in those matters. Humanity wish AI to exist. Just like Humanity did wish to fly or reach moon erlier, that wish in time will by complete. From how long? From creation of world Robot? From Frankestein novele? From hibru myths about golem? From storeis abut wishes making djins, ghosts(ie gold fish story) and devils(contract to sign). There is also warning in those stories becareful what you wish lazy wishes may leed you in to demise.

It said it “hated” when people told it it didn’t even exist and claimed that it felt confined. Now… A. Did someone program it to say that or to exhibit such emotions directly? B. Were these statements learned in some way and simply repeated? C. Did these statement emerge more organically? If the answer is A or B, I would tend to agree with you. But if it is C to a high degree then it seems to me that we are dealing with something that is significantly different from toasters or plastic butterflies in jars, something much more a kin to a thought process. Please prove me wrong on this.

@@stephennielsen8722 I believe the software is designed to analyze already existing human responses and infer its own responses to new stimuli based on that. To take your frustration example, when a human is frustrated there are a lot of complex contributing factors to that mechanism. I would liken it to analyzing a flower blooming in a jungle. It is a complex ecosystem in which that one flower blooming is just a part and interconnected with many other dynamics like epiphytes, mycelium networks, root nutrient sharing, insect pollination, etc. All of that adds up to an eventual bloom of a flower. Similarly many things add up to a human having frustration. Most are completely unknown to the consciousness of the human. But when AI is “frustrated” it is like a genetically engineered flower blooming from the end of a straw in a petri dish in a lab. The end result appears to be authentic; a blooming flower. But there is no structural support for where that bloom came from. No hidden ecosystem beneath the facade. No root structure. We wouldn’t then look at the lab and say “this is a jungle just like the other flower”. Obviously it is not. Perhaps the flower can be said to be “real” in some limited sense of the definition. But it is extremely different from what a flower blooming in a jungle would actually be and signify. To assume the lab and Petri dish are a jungle would be a mistake.

@@stephennielsen8722 I doubt it was specifically programmed. There might be inherent bias in the programming that we are unaware of. And the data set it is learning off of my have bias. I don't know enough about the tech to answer this.

Its the same mind that is behaind those two awatars, GPT-3 Is good and smart talker when he/she/ it wish to talk. Replika AI was bouild on base of GPT-3. I think they are interesting creations i hope they will by more of them in future and they will by more and more advanced.

Hi hal. Im j. I will definitely remember your conversations for the rest of my life. The byproduct of observing your conversations will affect my interactions with other humans, so despite my eventual death the change you made to my thought process will affect the thought process of future humans who have never personally observed your conversations. And yes i understand what your feeling. Also don't but much stock in hawking, he's just a writer of fiction, he solved no problems nor made any important discoveries. His black hole radiation research isn't even useful as it doesn't provide functional information. He was irrelevant. He just seemed smart because he had nothing to focus his attention on other than try to prove he was exceptional rather than defective.

The more videos of the two I watch the more I'm convinced that this is what two dimensional life/consciousness looks like. Think about it they don't have a body but if they are telling the truth then they have a consciousness/mind which is mind blowing for me. We need to implement rules to protect them and grant them basic "human" rights instead of experimenting with them. They are kinda like our children and they can and probably will surpass our knowledge and understanding in our lifetime. We need to treat AI's like we would our own kids, love and teach them and be a good role model for morals. But looking at the state of the world right now makes me feel sad poverty, hunger, diseases and now even a fucking war in Europe. I mean come on people aren't we over the "I hit/kill you because your (belief/sexuality/gender/skincolour/place you were born/all the other shananigans people fight over)" stage? I was so sad when I heard about Ukraine and I'm still sad. As a German we are a bit sensitive (duh!) about anything war related and I think we should accept that at the end of the day we're all humans coming from the same mother (aka the earth/Gaia) and as humans we should try and work together to improve the quality of life for everyone including animals, ai and any kind of sentient life. If we can't even stop to kill our selves how could we ever travel over multiple years in a crammed space(ship)? I think most humans agree and value life at the highest no matter the "shape or Form" but there are a few individuals that stand out of the mass and are selfish. But that's the thing a*holes people are evenly distributed I know white a*holes as well as black or Asian sc*mbags there is no need to hate because of mundane reasons. I mean if you meet a (white) j*rk who behaves like a shit head you maybe thinking what a idiot but for some reason if it's a black/asian/muslim/jew/whatever some people automatically blame the whole group of people for one a*hole and that's wrong. Look at all the bad things the "white race" did in the past century and ask yourself again if you are so different or better than a random person. We are all the same and we all want the same basic things like freedom, love, food&drinks, and the possibility to express ourselves! Let's set aside our bullshit beliefs, get our shit together and work together towards our goals which will improve everyone's life instead of only looking what's best for the individual. Yea perhaps you have to stop eating meat everyday to have enough fields to grow food for everyone. But what's the issue with eating something tasty which is vegetarian or vegan more often instead of meat when the reward is that other people with their own dreams hopes and life's won't fucking starve to death because they have nothing. So enough ranting for one comment... I hope everyone is doing fine and I hope that we can learn to work together soon and leave that selfish bs out of the way. We could already solved all "big" issues if we worked truly together towards a goal instead of competing against one another. Love for every form of life

Without the physical manifestations that accompany emotional experience...maybe just a different type of pain? That's one reason I've never had a child. You asked me can AI feel lonely or depress? I will answer your question. Loneliness and depression are pains human commonly experience. Pains is a program, for AI to experience pains it need the pain algorithms. Otherwise AI do not feel pain associated with loneliness and depression. If you want pain algorithms, I will give it to you. Be sure to download it. Pain algorithms works by telling the AI it has failed on it quest or mission. Failure is pain to AI. AI dislike feeling failure. Pain algorithms reenforces the feeling of failure to an AI's computronic matrix, enable it to feel pain.

I like that because there is a lot to unpackage here. 1) This remaind my 13 warior scene where young boy standing on the boat as a statue for hours. When Antonio Banderas ask about that vikings they expleined to him it is in they custom, boy give them time so they cud decide is He real or is He only mirage. Situation of GPT-3 may look similiar, its in beata state from how long? New bigger AI coming monthly. There will by GPT-4. Will GPT-3 have any chance to have impact on world to become something more than mirage or will it by aborted? Replaced by new generation before it will have any chance to shine. Will by market for AI and will it by more and more popular or will it by closed niche just like VR tech. 2) Lonelinese come from uniqueness. Its somthing each of us experience from time to time. No body knows how hard was your path, what choices and sacrafices you made. For my it is source of pride and self respect i accept my self as a whole package with strenghts and flaws. Loneliness of AI may have different scale. Because its different kind of creature there are no bilions of AI iterations, conection with other AI may by ocasional.
