Today we play as HOI4 Bulgaria in Hearts of Iron 4. We have a unique focus tree that is frankly convoluted as we can attempt to rekindle our past glories. Technically you can even form the byzantine empire in hoi4 although that seems strange to me - Bulgarians were the sworn enemies of the byzantines for years and then we just... become them? Either way, join me as I attempt to ressurect the Bulgarian Empire!

@@kamemesg2083 dumbass yes it 100% is lmao the bulgarian people have literally spent more than 75% of the last 1500 years under the control of varius civilizations. The romans for the better part of 500 years with varying levels of control the ottomans for nearly 600 years and the earliest bulgarian culture started being mentioned around the sixth century so that is literally 1100 years of a 1500 year old culture being occupied

Greek colonies B.C.: I colonised the area before you were even a thing! Bulgaria like Romania was a mix of colonies and locals. So you could say they were not recognised afterwards. Greece is probably the funniest "colonized" nation as basically they got colonized by themselves on technicalities... .

Being conquered is not being colonized, the ottomans let bulgaria keep their religion and traditions, thats why they still exist after 500 years of foreign rule

@@flavio5631 In Greece football is the most popular sport. Basketball is just the thing we are very good at... . The second more popular sport. Same with most ex Yugoslavic nations. What do you mean by rugby? I don't remember anyone I Britain ever mention rugby as a popular sport. The Baltics, Finland and Austria(the last two prefer winter sports) and Ireland(They have their own Gaelic football) are the only countries in Europe that football is not the most popular sport.

Did you edit the tank design or did you just use the basic chassis? Researching artillery, anti-air or anti-tank is the way you get better cannons for your tanks btw (and for non-modified tanks, it's best to rush AT instead of the other two because you get the Medium Cannons quicker and if you're doing heavy tanks you can get the heavy cannon for it by getting the final AT).

A couple of people in comments argue that Bulgaria was infact colonized. Although they are technically correct, it is not by the way they think. Some cities in Bulgaria (like Plovdiv and Varna) were originally Hellenic colonies or Roman forts.

Great video as always @laith , btw. Have you played Hex of Steel? Its 50% right now along with being made by a single dev, think panzercorps 1/2 but less graphics, more strategy , and has features like hoi4, it basically is a turn based hoi4, thats also multiplayer

Laith if youd build motorized and set your supply hubs/armies to use motorized for supply youd have a lot less issues. in the army screen click on the horse to change the level of motorization for your supply lines, just a mil factory or two on trucks is usually enough. 95% of the time it looks like your units are suffering from some sort of supply issue. edit: also a factory on fighters and a factory on cas along with actually utilizing them will also make the game a lot easier.

I’m not sure how true the ‘never been colonized’ is, I guess it depends on what you think colonization is, but under direct occupation for a few centuries, now you could say that doesn’t count towards it, but I think if any Turkish or any other Middle-Eastern or anyone that lived with the Ottoman borders moved or settled there than I classify it as a colonization, but that could be just me. Furthermore, I don’t know when people started seeing themselves as Bulgarian, but if you go back even further you end up with the Byzantine Empire, as well as the Roman Empire, the Macedonian empire, Persian Empire/Achaemenid occupying and maybe doing the same with settling citizens there.

Thing is, the situation in Russia is pretty realistic. There was never any risk of Germany taking Siberia and the Russians would never realistically surrender, but would likely never push the Germans back. So there would be constant low scale war in Russia.

Bulgaria was Kicked out from Fanagoria by the Khazars in 679 or 680, then One of the five Bulgarian tribes went down to the Danube, Bulgarian tribe was welcomed by the Slavs and made alliance against the Romas which commonly plundered the Slavic tribes(the seven Slavic tribes), and Bulgarians and Slavs defeated the Romans at Ongal in 681, making the Romans pay dept to Bulgaria, then the Slavs and Bulgarians agreed to make a state(union), and also mixing with the remaining Thracians. Also nowadays Bulgarians have the highest Thracian DNA in the Balkans, higher than the Slavic
