The blue one from Home Depot is called (T A/C-SAFE) foaming cleaner, and its still $5.48 a can. I used this product and it did an amazing job! At first I didn't think it was doing anything, but after a few minutes thick black slimy goo was dripping from the coil fins. It was household dust that had be drawn into the cold air returns over time. The result: a 7 degree drop in air temperature at the vent. I swear by this stuff.

Water with decent pressure works just as good if not better. Coil cleaners may brighten the Aluminum fins a bit and gives the appearance they are clean but that means nothing. Water and pressure will work fine. ( not high pressure like a pressure washer ) Typical hydrant pressure with a garden spray gun. You can't use any cleaner on The newer condensing coils being used by most manufacturers now. It is corrosive to the newer coils and will cause pre mature leaks and void the warranty. Water/pressure only is safe and effective.

I just got the HD one. What's up with all the foam on the 'Outside" of the fins/coil?? I'm hoping i can spray it well up inside, yeah? What would be wrong with pushing the foam up in there with the brush? thanks

Yes I did see the whole video, I only have home window units, when I seen /heard the Lowes was non toxic and safe, plus Lowes is much closer to my home, a Home Depot is far. I liked the Home Depot one because you didnt need to rinse, But I only have small home window units. But I do watch a lot of product comparison videos. Cheers !

Cool video bud! In my opinion those no rinse cans don't really work well, maybe on coils that are not that dirty. Also I usually cover the return with the access door off the return, in your case that was not possible because of the hinged door lol

@jonhvac 9 лет назад

Hey Jon, I have a package unit at my house to. The heater coil looks exact as yours (meaning the suction duct is right below and coils inside the unit). What’s the best way to clean this without rinsing preferably?
@jonhvac
@jonhvac 5 лет назад
It all depends on how dirty it is. Might want to try a shop vac with a dish scrubbing brush. Be gentle on the fins. And if it's still dirty finnish off with coil cleaner. Rinse with a pump sprayer. Sometimes you could put the panel inside unit to avoid most of the water dripping down the duct.
@imim4136
@imim4136 5 лет назад
Jon HVAC I’ve cleaned it like that yesterday with a brush and Vacuum. It works better but shuts down before reaching to the degree I set. Now, I’m thinking a self cleaning spray followed with steam cleaner (so it’s less watery to drip in the duct and house). I’m going to put a the cover as a pan over the opening and a towel over it. What do you think?
@jonhvac
@jonhvac 5 лет назад
The steam may be good to help break up the grime, but not so much for rinsing the cleaner off. I would still try to rinse it, especially if you're running it in heat mode.

Hey Jon, I have a rooftop night and day unit on my duplex that is about 7 years old and it runs almost continually to keep my little place cool. Is the evaporator coil up inside that unit or inside the attic? Thank you very much for your help.
@jonhvac
@jonhvac 5 лет назад
If it's a big looking package unit. Then yes, all the components are in there.
@WillaHerrera
@WillaHerrera 5 лет назад
Jon HVAC Jon thank you for the reply!!! Omg I just finished washing that MFR for the last 2 hours. I sprayed 2 cans of cleaner in it. After cleaning the layer of crap off the front then rinsed it and sucked the water up with a shop vac. It was still solid. I don't know if you should see light thru the condenser but you could not. I ended up spraying it down with simple green and hot water then rinsing it from both sides with the water hose and filled up 1.5 tubs on my big shop vac. Still could not see through it with my bright flashlight. It seems to be cooling much faster. Now the million dollar question. Do I use those cheepy filters you can see through or the expensive white ones that catch every particle? I hear mixed opinions.
@jonhvac
@jonhvac 5 лет назад
@@WillaHerrera I would go with the cheaper filters. 95% of duct systems can't handle those expensive 3m filters. Not to say it won't "work" but, it will really kill air flow. Most duct systems are poor to begin with so using a 3m filter is like pouring gasoline on the fire.
@WillaHerrera

@phatrides222000

Logan Inglis I use NU-CALGON condenser coil cleaner for radiators and my outside unit. Just be sure to rinse thoroughly after. It squirts on as a liquid and foams heavily. I also use it on my condenser coil in my trucks. Best stuff out, hands down.

I don't think either Home Depot or Lowes makes cleaners. So we need to know the brand names. Is the Home Depot by Frost King? Looks like the price label covers the brand name. I can't believe you didn't tell us the brand name.

The natural one would be the safest. Car radiators are micro-channel coils. Most micro-channel manufactures recommend not to use harsh cleaners. They do make special micro-channel cleaner also.
