You can activate a single wipe and spray the windscreen. I was driving my model 3 LR in snow last week and had to mess with the screen - having to keep pressing the button is not cool. You cannot put the wiper properly on like this. Very, very bad and unsafe design.

@@Dwealdric I think you missed the point where I said I have one . I have covered thousands of miles in all sorts of weather. I just don’t like it. Modern does not always mean better. Studies have shown for a long time that looking away from the windscreen to adjust things is distracting. Tesla like being different - I get that, but I think they have put too much onto the screen. Other manufacturers have developed better driver environments. The BMW iDrive control is excellent for example. I also think that Tesla should have used a heads up display for speed, etc. Opinions vary.

Thanks for the fun plowing video! BTW, we've got a 2020M3 and we have no issues turning on the wipers. Try these 2 things - the hard one is first: Push the button on the left stalk and not only do the wipers come on but the control icon pops up on the screen so you can pick any setting you want. The easiest way for me? Tap the right scroll wheel and say "Turn On The Wipers". Or "turn off the wipers", or "set the wipers to auto". Voice recognition in our car is stellar and it can do a lot of what you want done without searching through any menus or looking for any icons at all. "Turn on the driver seat heater", "set cruise to 75", "play Eagles Fly by Sammy Hagar", "what's my tire pressure". Without a doubt, that right scroll wheel is possibly the best control in the car. Well, maybe except for the right watt-feed pedal. :)

I’ve had a Ford Edge for several years, and recently picked up a Model Y. I just finished up a 2000 mile road trip in with the Y, In mostly wet weather, and on more than one occasion, I pressed in on the right stalk to flip on my wipers instead of the left stalk, because that’s what the Ford uses to activate a wipe (and clean). Fortunately the car is smart enough not to throw it into park when traveling down the highway because of my error 👍

The biggest problem in SNOW (after tyres) is the undercarriage hitting the snow, causing the car to lift and tyres lose traction. If you don't have much ride height, all the great snow tyres in the world will not help. They'll just pin as vehicle gets high- centered. I wish the Model 3 and Y had adaptive suspension with a ride height adjustment for snow etc. If you had a set of Vredsteins or Nokian Hakkas, that Y would be like a snowmobile.

The CrossClimate² is designed as an all-weather tire to meet industry severe snow service requirements qualifying for the three-peak mountain snowflake (3PMSF) symbol alongside its all-season performance and is intended to function as a one-tire solution for drivers that experience all four seasons but don't receive sufficient snowfall to require a dedicated winter tire."

Can power it as long as there is gas in the truck and you don’t go over the 7kw(7000 watts).
@jimmyjames8736
@jimmyjames8736 3 года назад
The 7.2kw system is rated for 32 hrs runtime on a tank of gas at full load. In power outage conditions if you were just running the furnace blower, refrigerator, some lights and a tv you would probably be running that system at 30-50% of its max capacity. At those loadings then the truck should run things for 3 or 4 days on a tank. To hook up the truck to your breaker box requires having a transfer switch pre-installed by an electrician. It provides the connection point for your truck and also disconnects the main feed so that your power does not exit your house into the damaged power grid. I think Ford undersized the battery pack on the f150 hybrid though. The 1.5kw battery pack is about 20 pounds worth of battery in a full size truck lol. At least 5kw worth of battery would have been a better match. This would have allowed much more efficient usage of the engine when recharging the battery since it has much more generating capacity than it can feed that little battery pack to recharge it without damaging it. It has the generating capacity to recharge even a 10kw battery pack at a 3c charge rate (20 minute charge rate) which is about the max charge rate you can use.

The reason people say that electric cars are no good in the winter has to do with the battery. Batteries do not like cold. The range drops dramatically and sometimes you even have to pre-heat the battery. Power could also drop to protect the battery. Nothing to do with traction. That’s no different from any normal car. Arguably even better because you have more control over power distribution with electric motors.

Knobs and switch's are good. A big screen, great too but for diagnostic information, camera, warnings, music, that kinda of thing, not anything involved in the act of operating the vehicle. This is what I like to see tested. In the winter there are always accidents. So during very bad weather conditions and an accident. One can sit and wait for the cleanups for hours. As with fuel vehicles you have heat to keep warm. You have for most fuel to keep going. So with the electric vehicles. Can you at an time as those. Keep warm for the time needed and have enough charge to get to an charging station safely?. Also what about when floods are around. Can the car make it threw safely under safe conditions to cross water going across the road to reach safety?

Have you considered modifying this vehicle to give it some more ground clearance for some of your off-road adventures?

Press the left stalk pushbutton once and it runs the wipers. Press and hold and it sprays and wipes.

Im not a regular viewer. Do they own the vehicle? If yes, it would be alarming that they don't know about this very important button. I wonder if they at least know where the hazard lights button is... In another comment someone told a story about a german driver who hit a tree because he could not activate the wipers. Maybe Tesla needs to better explain the controls.

Of course it goes in the fluffy snow. In wet snow, the problem changes completely.

I have a model S i can raise the suspension it helps in heavy snow. Not sure if model 3 or Y have that option but it comes in handy. The only bad thing is the car remembers your raised it up and can do it at that location in the summer.

what size rims? and all weather sucks because although you can keep them on all year round the tread wear is shit so even though you are not having to change tires, you get 50% of the performance of a winter tire and you will be replacing tires a lot sooner than normal. best option is to just have two dedicated sets of winter/all season tires

Very cool video. The Tesla snow plow. LOL!!!! I will ask the Tesla person when I do my test drive this week - what kind of tires actually come with 2023 Model Y Long Range I plan to purchase - selecting the gemini 19 inch size on my order. I do live in Illinois, so we do get snow like that from time to time during the winter months. Hopefully my streets will be plowed before I tackle my daily driving. But nice to know how well the dual motors work in weather like this. Thanks for the video. Take care.

The weight does help for traction, but snow tires be even better! And if you use winter tires you put no weare on the summer ones during that time.

Okay you guys you consider that deep snow you're from Colorado and you consider that deep snow I'm from Southern California I don't even lock the hubs in on my truck for that much snow

In the recent snow storm we had which was twice as deep as what you guys are showing I didn't see one Tesla buried in the snow so I'm really curious to see how well they do in deeper snow than that they either do a lot better than Subarus or the people who drive Teslas are a lot smarter than the ones that drive and Subarus because there was Subarus buried all over town

With the battery located at the lowest point (Low center of gravity) you’d expect EV’s to have superior snow traction vs comparable ICE vehicle! Loved this video. Life is too short, go out and play in the snow regardless of age!!

My cousin in a Tesla Y tried to blast thru snow plow bank on his driveway. He got high centered. His wife said they were using plastic spatulas to dig out the snow under the car to get out. Just a word to the wise! 😄 Remember you only have about 6 inches of ground clearance. That is powder in the video.

This light and fluffy snow doesn't need AWD, any FWD will go through no problem. I would like to see how model Y gets out of a thightly packed snow... That is where high clearance SUV excel. Why can tesla make a decent but compact SUV, like Tiguan, Kona, HRV or CRV, Rav4, even Outback or Forester ? C'mon Elon, get with the program...

LOL I only wish we got fluffy snow like that. Any vehicle with AWD should be able to push that fluff aside. Try and do that when it snows that much, turns to rain/freezing rain, the snow gets like cement and then it freezes again to ice. Do you guys not have much snow clearing on the streets?

The downside is if you live on the wet coast, it melts and refreezes into solid ice. The small snow piles will damage the bodywork and undercarriage.

TFL, I think that testing format is something you should consider making standard for your videos. Not the car stuff. Just having Tommy chase test vehicles on foot to get video could make a great new series. The more challenging the conditions for him the better the video will be. Have him chase dirt bikes, snowmobiles, and waverunners too. The vids will be fun for us to watch and Tommy might end up in the Olympics.

Don't almost hit the fire hydrant this time Roman! Flashback from last winter...LOL I'm up in Canada Tommy, that is a decent snow fall for over night, unless you are in the mountains by the snow belt then you can get over 3 feet in a dump. EV's would be fun in the winter but on ice, the extra weight stopping might be not so good, or the range losses because of the cold too...? The snow can be fun but when you are in a 1/2 ton 4x4 with big tires on the highway doing the speed limit and the snow is coming over your hood like that and more it can get a bit hair raising for a bald canuck even.
