One thing to add. There is a set of 4 dip switches on the board, switches 3 and 4 are to set the exact chip being emulated, so don’t change those. Switch one allows 32 sprites on a scan line instead of the standard 4 though I don’t think there is any NABU that can take advantage of that. Switch 2 allows you to set visible scan lines so you can get the old-school look on a modern flat panel monitor.

Yes! I forgot to discuss the settings. Thanks for sharing and pinned your comment for others.

Oh, and I might need to give that scanlines option a look.

the F18A MK1 is available now at my store for the smaller form factor with the same specs of the original, sourced from Matthew directly

I just got to know NABU but its architecture is pretty much like MSX. the 80 column feature was already done in MSX...

MSX computers had a much longer life and opportunity to evolve. The poor NABU wasn't around long enough to see any upgrades so cool that there are modern solutions! Thanks for watching and commenting!

I just purchased a "new" TI99/4A and I am going crazy trying to find an F18A. Any advice on how to obtain one would be greatly apprecaited!

Unfortunately these become available in waves and can be hard to come by. Sorry, I don't have any advice other than to just keep an eye on the site and wait for availability. I think during my batch, they sold out within hours.

I had a MEMOTECH MTX512 with that same TMS9918A VDP but was never able to get into the 80 column mode but the chip did overheat and eventually caused the CPU to overheat and go kapoot.

Not at all familiar with the MEMOTECH. Looking it up now.

Those look great. Actually wouldn't mind finding one of those.

There must be a few televisions that have the VGA socket on the bottom of the television close to where the Antenna socket is.

I've not run into one. Maybe some early 2000 models.

@@retroCombs some institutional TVs such as a Philips iTV series had an optional VGA port. I think the larger 30" + iTVs have VGA standard.

Ah, yes. Hadn't considered commercial grade televisions.

25 years or so in the industry. 10+ years mostly working with hardware. Anti-static precautions are BS. At least where I live. I understand that doesn't apply to all environments.

And on this, you and I agree! Thanks for watching and leaving a comment on this electronics controversial topic. 😂 I'm sure we will hear from others who disagree with us.

Agree. Working on computers since the early 80's, I've never had a need to wear that strap unless working on a work bench made with carpet. I usually touch a metal cases to discharge any static electricity.

@@RudysRetroIntel Same and I do have carpet in my basement studio, but that's something I'm hoping to get rid of some day.
