Honestly, I don't see it as cheating when the only strategy available is grinding. All it's doing is saving the content creator some time. I support all Poketubers hacking in rare candy in such scenarios.

@@jj_colombia97 she was beatable with crazy critluck (about 200 tries), but drake is the endboss. I think it is statistically possible to beat him but the Chancen are about 1:1000000000. I calculated something like that.

Haha, glad to see the Rare Candy stuff in action. Looking at things I think you might have been able to win without that last batch if you threw yourself at it long enough, but you probably would have needed to either call it quits or work on Christmas to pull that off. Still was very nice to see and was interesting to see the various walls that Red posed and just what it took to overcome it! Glad you enjoyed your Christmas present from all of us!

@@Raine618 I wouldn't be too sure, max EV in a stat takes a whopping 65535. Which, without pokerus or vitamins, would equal about 650 Pokemon with 100 base stat or 1300 pokemon with 50 base stat (the latter being a much more realistic portrayal of what you fight until then). When you consider that, even with an average of 100 exp per pokemon (which is prolly a low estimate by lv 40+ over the whole run), 130k exp would still be way more than lv 40 (lv 40 larvitar is 80k exp iirc, and lv 50 is 150k exp roughly iirc, so 130k must be somewhere past 45), I doubt he's gonna be maxxed by then. Maybe close, maybe even barely there, bit from personal experience I wouldn't be so sure

I suggest a Red/Blue run with only Magmar. If you look at its move list you’ll understand why. If you want throw in no Tms for added challenge I’m pretty sure magmar would have one of the highest base stat totals for a mon in a single run that you’ve done so far.

Thank you for the video. Glad you decided to use the rare candy cheat for the post game. There's really no need to grind at that point since it's obvious that you could increase your Pokemon's level at that point without difficulty, it'd just take forever to do it.

I think I know how the Venusaur took significantly less damage during the level 90 fight (@ 20:12) compared to the level 95 fight (@20:34). First, I'm assuming both fights started as Pikachu -> Espeon -> Venusaur. Pikachu was slower in both fights, so it's not caused by Charm. Espeon is faster than Larvitar in the level 90 fight, and used Reflect on its first turn. That allowed it to survive an Earthquake, so it could use Psychic on the 2nd turn before fainting. I think the Espeon still outsped during the level 95 attempt, but used Psychic on turn 1 instead of Reflect. Without using Reflect, an Earthquake would one shot Espeon. That would explain why Larvitar had a similar amount of HP going into Venusaur in both fights, and also explains why Venusaur took roughly x2 as much damage during the level 95 attempt in comparison to the level 90 attempt

Definitely happy for you to use the rare candy cheat when needed. We all wanna see the possible results of maxing out your level if needed, but we also understand that it takes a lot of real time out of your days to do it. There’s a hidden item in Kanto called the Bezerk Gene. It buffs your attack 2 stages but confuses you (held item). Using this even magikarp can beat Red (at max level). Maybe with this Larvitar can win around level 75 or so

I've got an interesting challenge for Pokemon Platinum. You choose a starter as normal and only have that pokemon for the first gym. Then catch a new pokemon on the route before the next gym, and use only that pokemon for that gym. Repeat for all gyms, then out of all 8 pokemon, make a team of 6 and take on the elite 4 and champion.

Oh, Larvitar ar is a nice one. I tried it too, but I didn't have the motiviation to win the battle against Red in the end. I would like to see Diglett in Emerald. It will be fine until after the fourth or fifth gym, but will struggle when the water part starts. It is super fast, but it has only 30 and 45 base defense/ special defense and a demolishing 10 in base attack. We've seen it in Red and FIre Red so far, but I think Emerald is the even harder boss.

pretty sure this isn't possible. Diglett is super frail, and unlike in Gen 1, Gen 3 has abilities, and a lot of stuff has Levitate making ground useless. That, and Tate and Liza..

That's another reason why the Gold/Silver remakes are the best remakes. It fixes the little issues like the post elite-4 gyms being a lower level which has always felt weird.

One of my favorite RU-vidrs of all time playing with one of my favorite Pokemon? This video is a win for me! How larvitar became one of my favorites is actually from a community day in Pokemon go. The larvitar event in Pokemon go was my first Pokemon go event and was a super wholesome day because of all the other Pokemon go players I ran into. Also I got a lot of shinies, and once I evolved all of them to tyranitar, they were by far the ace of my team. All those good memories makes the larvitar line my favorite. (Also I'm so used to only seeing the shiny form of the larvitar line that I sometimes thing the original color is the shiny one lol)

I think using rare candies for endgame battles, even the elite 4/champion should be considered fine since you don't have anything after that. I would probably say not before then becase you have more options for doing different stuff and I like seeing how low a level you can win at so just going up levels to beat where ever you are fighting would make things more boring for me.

Loved it, but a couple things I’d like to see in subsequent videos, cuz I never see it anymore The game clock of how long you’ve been doing the run, either at decently paced points or just one at the end And a Gen 2 run with Swinub lol but that one’s not a sticking point. Regarding the Royal Ramble, there are some niche corners of RU-vid where the end-card bit is just as valued (or moreso) than the content. Yuriofwind's Endslate is legendary for this, to the point where he's divorced his full, long-winded Endslate from regular content at points. Partly this is because of his analytics, and him wanting to individually thank his Patrons, but also notably because of demand. ... You didn't ask, but I thought that might be interesting for you to know.

I find it funny that some people suggested for you to use Rare Candies at any point of a run considering it would actually harm you more than it would help in the long run. For post-game content it's fine since you most likely already maxed out your Stats Exp/EVs by then, but you really should grind at least for those early on. Using Rare Candies too early would sabotage your run for late-game battles, especially in Gen 1 and 2.

I love that you used rare candies. I'm here to see you beat the battles and strategies. Not grinding for who know how long. Of course I think you should definitely do some grinding thru out the play thru just to get the feel of it, but after getting the feel of it its just annoying. The question is can you do it with X Pokémon. Grinding takes no skill at all so I'm all here for it

If you were to go one on one when another Pokémon, you have a 50/50 chance of winning. But I'm a genetic freak, I'm not normal. So you have a 25% at best. And then you add Silver to the mix, your chances of winning drastic go down.

Keep in mind, in Gen 2 you can still keep getting EVs even after reaching lvl 100. You just need to deposit your Pokémon in the PC for them to register in your stats. So if you ever get stuck even at lvl 100 and you need more HP, Atk, Speed or anything else to win the fight, you can actually get them by training more.

See it as this: More Rare Candies = less EV training. It only saves time, doesn't give more to you than just time...which is big for your real life, but doesn't help your pokemon, aside from leveling, which you'd do with encounter, otherwise. These videos are to show if certain kinds of runs are possible to do, not to speedrun or something.

How about the ultimate single pokemon run. You use a single poke until you beat a gym. Then you apply nuzlockey kind of rules and the next pokemon you encounter is the next single pokemon you can use until you beat the next gym. You would be limited on your selections until you get the fly HM. And also choosing a single poke to try and hunt for the elite four would be interesting. This could be applied to any of the games really, but Firered/Leafgreen would be a nice start. This may be a bit time consuming though 😅 but if there's one person who could do it, it would be you MDB!

For the post game if you still can't win at level 100 you should use a save right before level 100 to allow an evolution to see if that pushes you over the finish line

Nice to finally see some Rare Candy cheat action instead of hours upong hours of mindless grinding for the post game super boss. At first I thought it was a dumb move to remove Sandstorm because it can be used to increase a Rock type Sp. Def by 50%, but then I checked and saw that that was added in Gen IV.

My prediction : Final Moveset - Return, Earthquake, Rock Slide, Curse Toughest fight (apart from red) - Clair Level Red beaten at : 90 maybe? Level Lance beaten at : probably 60 something (due to Clair, Bruno) Hidden power type guess : Poison

When you choose Larvitar, you have a 33 and 1/3 chance of winning, But he's great at kicking those fat asses!

Pokemon platinum with only one Onix. Rock, Grass, Ghost, fighting, water, steel and ice gyms are all going to cause issues. Plus the elite 4 and Cynthia will pose a massive problem. Could even be an impossible run. It would take a brave soul to take on that run.

Tyranitar was a true beast and could wreck anything although grinding to 55 was hard it was worth it in the end. Plus gen 2 had crappy fighting moves so Tyranitar had not to much to worry about

Pokémon Firered with only one Mareep! I think it would be a really fun run (of course, also taking the Helix fossil, but don’t tell anyone you’re gonna do that)
