I believe Sue said that, for really big books, as long as 400 pages of it is read during the event dates, it counts. It doesn't have to be read in its entirety. 👍

Oh good! I'm sure I will like Frankenstein as well, even though the monster part does not appeal to me. The concept I find very intriguing, though. And I did enjoy Around the world in 80 Days. That's a fun book. I liked the movie, too, but they didn't really stick to the book much as I recall.

Jane Austen at Home is so good. I loved the audiobook. Fahrenheit 451 is great too. One of my favorites and so thought provoking! This is a wonderfully ambitious TBR - good luck! I can’t wait to hear how you did.

It is definitely ambitious. We'll see what happens! And I've heard the same thing from many others about those two books so 🤞

I read Jane Austen At Home last year for JaneAustenJuly and really enjoyed it and think you will, too. Look forward to hearing your thoughts. Yeah, The Murder of Mr. Wickham was eh. I think I had set my expectations too high for that one. I do love Frankenstein! Lots of great discussion opportunities with that one.

Yes, I've heard mixed feelings about the Claudia Gray books. And the people who haven't liked it have similar taste to me (like you and Miriam)so I have a bad feeling. But I do want to try it.

The only adaptation of Mansfield Park that I like is the old BBC one (like 80s). The cinematography is HORRIBLE but they did a decent job of sticking to the story and showcasing the characters as Austen portrayed them.
@CourtneyReads

Was just about to recommend this one! It's the only Mansfield Park adaptation I've liked. The others deviate too much for my liking. This one was done really well though. It was on Amazon Prime at one time, not sure if it still is or not.

I’m having to keep myself from doing Jane Austen July this year 🙈I’m already trying to do a lot of other prompts but now that I know abt it I hope to plan to do it next year! Yes, definitely plan for it next year. I think in the future I will save my JA reads for JAJ and read annotated versions since now I've read all of them at least twice. Unless I get a hankering for P&P or Emma in the meantime.... which totally happens! 😆

Could Remarkably Bright Creatures work for the underwater setting? One of the main characters is an octopus who lives underwater and an aquarium is a frequent setting in the book. Another book that came to mind is The Island of Sea Women. I haven’t read that one.

Besides, Jane Austen at Home, what book about Jane Austen would you recommend?
@insearchofwonder
@insearchofwonder 7 дней назад
Well, depends on what you're looking for. A fun biographical novel is Just Jane by Nancy Moser. A glimpse into her private life is fun with her letters (edited by Deirdre Le Faye). I read a biography of her by an author named G E Mitton that was originally published in 1905 and then reprinted by Barnes and Noble in 2007. It's called Jane Austen and Her Times. I think the Lucy Worsley one will be much better, but it was interesting to read as a classic biography. I also really enjoyed What Matters in Jane Austen by John Mullan, but that's more about her books than it is about her. And along the same lines, I also really enjoyed A Jane Austen Education by William Deresiewicz.

The Giver is utopian... but I consider it dystopian and I hated it because it felt too much like real life or what some are trying to make real life to be.
@insearchofwonder
@insearchofwonder 7 дней назад
I sort of feel like any utopian novel would end up dystopian. That's my thought anyway. Either that or it would be super boring. LOL
